it’s so hard to choose but i think the minotaur scene (but specifically the moment between percy and sally)
Percy and Sally really got me in the feels😭 but especially the call back quote to the hero Perseus and OUR HERO Percy😭 #goosebumpsfordays
My favorite scene is when dionysus makes Percy think that he is Percy's dad

"Why was she sitting in the rain?" Poseidon is the stormbringer. I just assumed it was a way for her to feel close to him considering what was going on.
That's what I thought. It's also a subtle bit of foreshadowing.

I just thought she was sick of Gabe and the news of Percy’s expulsion that she just needed to calm down. I mean, people sitting on roofs during a sad moment (sometimes also raining) isn’t a new thing. This just makes it so much sadder 😭
I like her in a gentle rain. For those who have not been told, this could still be mysterious tie to Percy Father. Zues is known for thunderstorms and tornadoes versus Poseidon hurricanes/typhoon/monsoon. Watching the movies then listening to the audio books I like think she remembering the sea breezes from her time with poseidon
I swear that Gabe was WAY worse in the books. Like, Gabe in the show was just a bit of a douche but the book Gabe was the spawn of satan
Gabe was definitely abusive in the books, and I’m for one very glad they actually didn’t take that route in the show. I don’t want to see Sally go through that 😭
@@cameronsilas I honestly see Gabe as more comedic relief in the show than a villain. “Who’s Yancy?” 😂
If I recall right. I’m pretty sure in the books it didn’t get revealed that Gabe was actually physically abusive because Percy was gone a lot at boarding schools and stuff. So Percy doesn’t figure that out until the end of the first book when Percy see’s his mom flinch in response to Gabe lifting his hand or something. (At least that’s how I remember it)
So they could end up going down that route later.

Sally sitting in the rain while listening to olivia rodrigo is such a milenial mom from this age (this period of time). I mean she had enough of Gabe and living with her, she could have some of her time feeling the rain bcs i feel like it was such a thing that i wouod do if i were in her situation lmao
From watching the show, i feel like they did change the time as this era and not 2000-

I saw that and I felt so sad for her. She was really trying to feel closer to Percy's father and it just broke my heart.

It’s kind of close but not exact I have not even just the not mentioning the reading part they didn’t include the something stirring inside part
The scenes with Percy and Sally was my favorite parts of this first episode.

I have ADHD, diagnosed when I was very young, and 12-year-old me would have LOVED seeing Percy on the screen. Hell, I'm loving it now!
I was excited, but didn't expect *THIS*. This was AMAZING. While I was at points disappointed that they changed things, that disappointment went to "never mind, I almost prefer this anyway" cuz it was just so good. I cried at the Minotaur scene, which I rarely do. That was amazing.
She was sitting in the rain because rain is mostly evaporated sea water! She was getting close to her baby daddy because she was about to tell Percy about him

I literally screamed when it first dropped, I was SO excited! It's absolutely PERFECT!! I think my favorite part was the minotaur scene, especially because Percy actually looses his sword in the fight and has to do what he did in the book. Thank God
Yesss i love the bit of detail when he hit the horn with his sword, making it easier to break off as well
I really hope they greenlit the 2nd season, I can't wait to see how they adapt Sea of Monsters perfectly, better than the movie

Its amazing how much giving the tiniest bit of a shit about your source material does for the quality of an adaptation.
Was it just me or did Gabe seem..more annoying than mean? Like he doesn’t give off that vibe he did in the book. Even in this, Sally was able to give him a look and he backed down

I felt the same, he definitely doesn't deserve her but I don't think this Gabe deserves to be made stone, I hope they just break up
I wonder if they toned him down since it is a kids TV series on Disney+
I would almost call their bickering the cute part of a toxic relationship than the ugly side of an abusive one. And that’s really what it should be. At least at this point in the story I don’t think he like deserves what he gets at the end of the book.
Agreed. I really hope they find a way to warrant him getting his "death by petrification" fate at the end of the season. Bc as of right now, he really doesn't seem abusive.

Sally was amazing, absolutely fantastic and really made the first episode for me. Love when he gets home from Yancy and he's trying to explain and she just trusts him and says "I believe my kid, it was a short call." The whole scene with her explaining to Percy and then him crying because he's scared something's really wrong with him, and then when she tells him later that he's not broken...tears, it was perfect. Love the kid actors, Percy and Grover were amazing and Annabeth in the next episode as well. Loved how Sally stood her ground with Gabe, that's a much more accurate portrayal of their book relationship than in the movie where she just took everything he did with no complaint. I laughed out loud at the Jesus line.
So no one’s gonna mention you look almost identical to Percy’s mom??
Only complaints with this one, and they are minimal, is that ita missing the fates cutting the thread, Chiron and Grover talking about seeing Dods, and the fact that Sallys car isnt hit with lighting (starting the idea that it is Zeus).
There is behind the scenes shots of the fates so I think they’re just putting the fates cutting the yarn in a different place. I think probably when Percy Annabeth and Grover are on the bus away from camp.
This episode was way too rushed. Like way way way too rushed. Deserved to be 1 hour of just content
@@harryallen5392Felt that way too. Probably assumed that most people read the books and wanted to get straight into the Demigod stuff
the fates cutting the thread is still coming in the next episodes i believe. same with the oracle of delphi. Chiron and grover talking about seeing dodds is kinda implied by the look they give in each other when percy asks where she is. and although the car isnt hit by lightning there is a lightning strike just as the minatour appears implying zeus is kinda behind it.
Somehow this show manages to live up to the phenomenal amount of hype
All the percy and sally scenes made me cry, like the show knows the asssignment

As long as they follow the source material it is going to be amazing it's even more amazing because the author Rick Riordan is a part of the entire production

I cried a few tears of joy after I finished watching the first two episodes. They were too good! I’m so excited for what’s to come!
I nearly cried when sally told him he wasn’t broken and that he’s whole, I have dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD so god that hit home!!
Also the way they depict having all of them is sooooo real!!

The only nit picky thing for me is I wish Gabe had been meaner. But I mean hey maybe we'll get some flashbacks
I loved the whole episode. His “look, I didn’t want to be a Half-Blood” basically quoting the first paragraph of the book verbatim but for TV was 👌chef’s kiss. It might be because I’ve just finished rereading Titan’s Curse again, but the mention of Mythomagic in the first season made me fist bump the air so hard it hurt my shoulder. I also now really hope we at least get further than the movies to Titans Curse so I can see that adapted!
This was masterfully done. The casting was spot on and I love that we got more time with Percy and his mom, great chemistry between them. I hope they keep going and adapt the heroes of Olympus series. Book of hades is one of my all time favorites
Same here dude looked the hades one but I also liked son of Neptune just the return of Percy was phenomenall
You define you need to react to the rest of the series as it comes out! I absolutely love the first 2 episodes, and I don’t have anyone to talk about it to, so it’s amazing to watch your videos and have like another person I can watch it with, and share my opinions about it with I suppose

This is the first time Im watching an adaptation thats actually trying to be an adaptation of books I know intimately
Loved the review and the episode and completely agree best first episode ever. We've waited so long for a faithful adaptation and it finally here. I cannot wait for this series honesty i really hope it goes well because i am beyond excited for the next 5 years of Percy Jackson

I love this series! Much more faithful to the books. My favorite scene was probably Percy killing Mrs. Dodds. I’m hoping we get at least five seasons so we can see the first five books!
And hopefully extending to the Heroes of Olympus

we've been waiting for this moment for so long and it's finally hear, i just love percy, he's my child i wanna protect him at all costs, also sally the mother that you are, made me tear up 😢, this show so good need the 5 seasons like right now🥺
I actually didnt realise how much exposition the book has in the first few chapters before percy goes on the quest. IT IS A LOT and the fact that they couldnt fit it all in and it still felt a little rushed is saying something. I actually like some of the changes in the series. i like the fact that the fight with dodds felt more accidental and wasnt an all out fight that opinion might be in the minority though. i am someone who likes things darker but going into this knowing it was disney, im not surprised they watered gabe down but i also think that might change as they get older (if they dont kill him off in the first season he has a tendency to get darker in the seasons to come) I like the fact that the minatours horn was wacked by the car, the tree and the freaking sword twice🤣🤣 in order to weaken it so that percy breaking it off would be believable, i love how i can feel deeply percy's emotions and I absolutely love annabeth😊 It isnt perfect but they have a lot to work with, a budget to work around and i think it will get better as each episode comes and im really excited

i had the exact same reaction as you throughout the episode! i didnt get why so many people are so hard on the series, but im glad there are others who enjoyed it as much as I did
I honestly liked the idea of Riptide being a click pen better but i’m so glad they stuck to the book in almost everything else.. this is looking incredible so far can’t wait to watch the rest of S1
If it were click it would kind of ruin the house of hades (assuming they adapt it)

@@nico_rissoasdf I wish the sword would grow more than form if that makes sense, since in the book the blade is growing and shrinking with the cap, and he even says it grew in front of him at one point (or something like that). I don’t mind if it’s mechanical like in the movie I agree that looked cool (although I can see it being equally cool if they don’t go that route) but I also think you can do all of that with a capped pen.
OML I am shocked at how good this is. I love the characters, especially Grover and I’m so excited to see what comes next!

The only thing I was a little disappointed was how fast the stuff with Mrs. Dodds was. I would have liked it to be a little longer but that’s ok in the end cause what we got was beautiful

when i saw sally sitting in the rain, my immediate thought was that the rain might remind her of her time with Poseidon
The way I also cried during the scene when Sally has to say goodbye to Percy ToT
If I was Percy and I'd been "seeing things" my whole life and then my mom started saying the things she was saying in that scene I'd be like "oh, this is genetic and my mom is losing it."
i just have one problem with this, the whole episode till they reach the camp they should have created a feeling of rush. like they have to reach safe place as soon as possible as they are in danger and that is why they are unable to fully explain to Percy what exactly is happening. To me it just felt like they were trying to pass time so they dont have to tell him anything especially his mom.

@@Khushleen125 so it doesn't quite make sense to me why the smell of halfblood gets stronger to the monsters hunting them, as soon as the halfblood knows they're a halfblood. But apparently it does. This means you don't want a halfblood to know they're a halfblood for as long as possible. Percy not knowing he is halfblood made his halfblood blood smell less strong and less noticeable to the monsters. Don't ask me how it works because idk I don't get it either, but that's the reason his mum didn't want Percy knowing right away and why she wouldn't tell him anything until she had no other option
The only criticism I have so far is the portrayal of Mr D and Gabe…

This was episode was amazing Percy fighting the bull had me so damn hyped that fight was awesome 🤘🔥, also it's crazy how much you look like actress that plays Sally Jackson they really get you play young Sally if they do any flashback sequences Lol 🙌

I think soaking in the rain when upset is just a thing some ppl do, it’s like listening to a sad song; feeling the pathetic fallacy as the rain masks your tears or something. I personally find being in the rain quite refreshing and freeing sometimes, and I’ve seen someone do that while upset before. Maybe it’s comforting. And of course water being connected to Poseidon gives it even more feeling

Bro I cried when I watched this. Last night. I watched it with my mom, and had to explain a few things to her, which stopped me from crying too hard, but now I’m going to watch it with my dad! BRO ITS ONLY THE FIRST TWO EPISODES AND I LOVE THEM
I'm sad right now I stayed up Instagram to avoid spoilers and didn't see that they dropped the episodes like 4 hours early so I stayed up till like 2:30 and then when I got everything ready and so they were already out I literally screamed
Still i think there are somethings that could lead to changes from the book a lot like
1.Sally is not portrayed as a victim like in the books and (2.) Gabe is shown as a better person than in the books... Makes her sacrifice less difficult in the eyes of the viewers.
3. Sally not teaching Percy how to defend against the minotaur
4. A good change but can we PLEASE take Sally saying "Not all monsters are bad" in a way of the show overshadowing Bob the Titan
