I like to imagine this from the idea that sunny and mari did play the recital and then mari grew up and taught orchestra and they performed this at a concert with sunny as a special guest while everyones friends and family watches from beyond the stage
I love how it got softer at 1:28. I think it emphasized the feeling of sadness and loneliness felt at this part of the song differently than the way it was done in the original version. At least that was how it was to me 😅
Okay, so I made a bit more lore about this AU. As you already know, every friend in the group plays an instrument, and they wanted to do a recital as sort of orchetsra. Kel, as impatient boy, gets mad at Mari because of her perfectionism. Aubrey yells at him, Hero tries to calm 'em down, Basil terrified and Sunny just acts like himself - standing with stoic expression. In this fight, Mari accidentaly falls on the piano and crashes her head. Everyone hiding the clues and makes it look like Mari killed herself. The group gets their Something, only one for all of them. I dunno what next, help
for who would play what, i would say this: aubrey would play the flute kel with the trumpet, mainly cause i saw another au do the same thing and it also fits as for hero i wasnt sure but i'd say the bassoon or clarinet, some form of a deeper sounding wind instrument for basil, he gets the cello as a sort of parallel to sunny and to throw it all together sorry if this is a little inaccurate since ive recently got into omori and joined the fandom!!
I like to imagine this is Sunny's life after a while of the game happening, like he'll always have Mari's protection or piano in his song, his own violin living his life and every instrument and new sound is each friend he meets and every person he gets involved with like Hero as the new piano Kel as trumpets probably and Aubrey as well to make the original final duet into a beautiful full orchestra after living in loneliness for so long I love this song.

Its been 8 years since Sunny finaly decides to accept what has happened he is now 24 but dosent feel accomplished so he will adopt a pair of siblings and give them a good life and a happy childhood he wakes up to see a framed picture of Mari smilng at it he folds his bed sheets gets dressed and starts the car on his way he imagines how it could have been different,he reaches the orphanage and is immediately greeted by a little girl who hold his hand in hope and Sunny lifts her up soon after a little boy runs and hugs him Sunny finishes his paperwork and leagaly adopts them naming the girl after his sister and the boy after his best friend and as they grow up thay pick up the same interests as Sunny and Mari piano and violin as they recite a sheet music they found in there dads room they have visitors its Sunnys childhood friends surprised by the childrens names especially Basel,the siblings grown to be adults becoming well known musicians and Sunny is now in his death bed feeling complete and free his heart rate flat lines the siblings are sad but greatfull sunny is now a spirit he look at himself in his ghostly form and feels a hand on his shoulders......... Its Mari!.......oneday the rest of the team will reunite too......
