    I am so heart broken as a fan. That was his mission before he died, was to open a center for the youth. You would think with 85 million records sold, his mother making 45 million and still nearly 6 albums worth of unreleased music that can be put out that a place like this can be managed for another 20 years. Nothing but money grubbers that lined their own pockets when it came to 2Pac. It makes me so sad to see.

      @pshoup1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      +TheTupacHologram Agreed. But I don't think people should look at the center as a failure of his legacy. He's still the most influential rapper of all time regardless of how his work has been managed.

    Huge mistake having that in Atlanta. Don't know why 2pac's people mishandled his estate. His legacy belongs in Los Angeles, California. Believe me, it would be taken care of, preserved and protected there in downtown Los Angeles.

    This place is still open. The larger building is closed due to funding but the visitors center is open and full of Tupac memorabilia. They still hold classes and activities there on a regular basis. Tupacs cousin, Jamala, handles the running of the center now.

      Where is this visitor center?

    • @LorrieB330
      @LorrieB330 9 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      The visitor center is the smaller building on the right side. I was just there about two weeks ago and make the 6 hour drive almost every month from TN to go there. I would be glad to give you Jamala's email if you would like more information. I can also email you pics of the inside that was taken on my last trip. There's a huge display inside describing Afeni's time with the Black Panthers in New York and her trial when she defended herself and was acquitted on all charges while pregnant with Pac.

The phone number is 404-298-4222 if you're ever in the area again to find out days they will be open because the exhibits and displays inside are truly fascinating.

    This man gave us his all when he spoke, when he preached through his music. Rappers and ‘friends’ would be the first to list him as one of the greatest to ever touch the mic and that they cite him as one of their inspirations, how can they not know about the state of this place? Why can’t they give back to Pacs memory and honour him by keeping a place like this alive? It’s a damn shame!

    The arts center closed in 2014. In the Peace Garden of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts. I-285 exit 39B. Drive east on Stone Mountain Fwy to exit 5, then drive south on Hwy 10/Memorial Drive for about three miles. Just past Hambrick Rd you'll see Piccadilly Cafeteria on the right; the entrance to the Center is just past this, on the right.

      The Center should have been in the Bay Area. Arts defined the Bay Area more than anything until tech came. There would have been more funding opportunities. Tupac spent time there as well as his mother. She eventually ended up back there and passed away at her long-time home there. IMO, Atlanta my have been convenient at the time, but it was a long-term bad choice for Tupac. ATL is a great city otherwise.

    Just found this July 28, 2017. As Tupac's catalogue of unreleased music decreased, the foundation began facing financial struggles. Despite these struggles, Afeni Shakur resisted selling the center and never officially announced the center's closure. Eventually, the property was sold in August 2015. This place is now a Jumps R Us? wow.

    This is really sad. I remember a few years ago seeing a video interview with Afeni showing the statue and this whole place in full swing. A LOT of people came to this place obviously, but maybe not as much as one would expect. If they opened this somewhere is L.A. and opened another one in New York (since he's from there) maybe the outcome could have been better. I guess it cost way too much to run and maintain regardless of where it's located. Such a shame. Also, the names of the contributors made me sad. Lisa Lopez (a.k.a. Left Eye from TLC) made me the most sad. Her and Tupac were really close. R.I.P. Tupac, Left Eye and Afeni.

    The Grammy Museum in LA currently has a very interesting Tupac exhibition and helps keep his legacy alive. In Vegas you can pay a visit to the site of the shooting & leave a tribute by the palm tree. Also in Vegas look out for the Pac lookalikes, give em' a few dollars for a photo and help keep Pac's imagery forever in the public eye. This video is one of the saddest abandonments ever witnessed and I hope they can one day reopen the center either on the original site or at a more suited location in California. Thanks for sharing with the world Adam and rest in peace Tupac.

    I'm a HUGE fan of Pac. Thank you for showing this Adam. I had not kept up with the things like this that sprang up after he died. It's sad to see that garden and the youth center like this. Makes me sad man! Is true life goes on, but that doesn't mean your good deeds on earth are erase from everyone. This man was and is one of my mentors in life and I am born and raised in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, alone and in a Spanish main language country I always felt like an outcast, I would listen to 2pac and feel like I had an older brother somewhere that care for others who were young alone surviving and fighting for their place in this world. All good comes from God and 2pac had more good in him that bad, for as long as I live this mans life will never be in vain for me. By the way, the main reason why I found this video was because I wanted to know if 2pac had a resting place so that could take flowers to his grave one day and say (thank you for your knowledge brother), its something I would like to also do with Bruce Lee, Bob Marley and others pass away mentors of mine that have thought me wisdom in my life...

    The center was founded in 1997 by Tupac Shakur's mother Afeni Shakur in response to preserving her son's legacy.[1] It is designed to bring quality arts training to young people including some students that face many social-economic issues such as poverty.[2] Many students have enriched their artistic abilities through this center and some have even received part-time jobs.[2]
    In July 1999 the foundation began its first annual summer session of PA camps with twenty campers.[3] The camp continued to grow throughout the years. On June 11, 2005 The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts Peace Garden and visitor centre was opened.[4] The peace garden was designed as a tribute to Tupac Shakur as well as others who have died. In 2006 the music video for the single Pac's Life for the self-titled album was shot at the The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts.[5] Tupac's mother Afeni Shakur also went to Africa in 2006 and fostered a relationship between The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and The Nelson Mendela foundation.[6]
    After 2006 the foundation showed signs of growth as many additional programs were created such as after school programs, dance classes and cultural exchange programs. Fees for these program resemble prices similar to those of joining a local sports league.[7]
    The foundation has also held Tupac birthday concert celebrations since 2009.
    Sometime before September of 2015 the Stone Mountain facility became abandoned and now sits unkept along with the Peace Garden and statue of Tupac on the property.

    • @davidfoust4607
      @davidfoust4607 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      sorry but YOU are not the target audience of rap. You ever see Bon Jovi trying to kill Aerosmith? No other style of music glorifies violence, and the mistreatment of women as much as rap. It's not really "positive" in it's messages....

    • @JustSheilz
      @JustSheilz 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Foust I was very young when bubble gum rap changed to gangsta rap....but anyway
      Music is not what makes someone go out and break the law. People use it as an excuse or a crutch to excuse bad behavior.
      Also, in what world is Bon Jovi and Aerosmith thrash or death metal?

    • @MrRetidy
      @MrRetidy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +David Foust its a shame you think of rap as one genre of "gangster" music. rap is made up of many different types of genres and i suggest you expand your ignorant mind before you go and trash an entire collective of music. go listen to rappers like Kid Cudi who makes songs that do not glorify a braggadocio lifestyle and Lecrae who is a mainstream christian rapper. every single music genre has groups or individual artists that make negative music. not all death metal is satanic garbage and not all rap is thug trash.
