OMG! I am so jealous right now. G street used to be my weekends when I lived in Washington DC 25 years ago. Now that I've gone back to sewing after a 20 year hiatus I miss G Street!!! I Iive in NC now. Sooo jealous lol! Also I told myself stop watching these make 9's and fabric hauls and plans because it makes me want add more plans and run out for more fabric. Also you're from Guinea? Awesome! Ghanaian here. We all had to.learn to sew. Okay I digress. Point is I was going to take break from watching sewing videos so that I'm not distracted. Yet here I am...going for a walk open up TH-cam to listen to music and I just break into a smile cos there you are... With your G STREET haul!! Loving it
Karen, yes I am your West African Neighbor!! It's only right that we can make garments as awesome as the tailors back home :) I am really hoping to talk more about hacking what I already have and make it with a twist, so hopefully won't be too tempting, just inspirational :) Your comment put the HUGEST smile on my face, thank you SO MUCH! Also, you chose to watch this, instead of listening to music, I cannot tell you how honored I am! OK, I'm going to stop with the temptation and I will focus on the makes lol!
I really like that you have such a specific and joyful point of view about the things that you found at G street this weekend. Worrying too much about "your" colors might mean that you miss a nuance, a nexis, a moment within your own niche of creativity.
Lorraine, I couldn't agree more, and the last thing i want to miss is a nexus in my creative niche, YES YES YES! I feel like the fabric that make us bubble over with glee need to be with us, color analysis or not, and I love your comment and it has given me so much confidence!
Your video was so adorable, I really enjoyed it. I worked at G Street, probably 25 years ago, and loved it. I now live in Italy, and sent over my stash, which still has some beautiful fabrics from the store. You’re enthusiasm is so contagious, good luck. Junie
NO WAY!!!!! OMG that is incredible! I will do my best to visit the store and share my findings for all the nostalgia points I can give you (this is obviously my new reason number 82 for visiting G Street). I hope you are LOVING Italy! Thank you so much for your lovely comment!
Congratulations 🍾🎉🎈 to 1000 subscribers! Just found your channel and you are such an inspiration 💕both as a sewist and as a fellow you tuber (long way from where you are but love being apart of this wonderful community. Looking forward to see many more of your videos and what you make.have a wonderful day!
Thank you thank you so much! I am so happy to have you here and I've subscribed to your channel as well, I look forward to seeing your journey as well!
Thank you so much Annette! I have a feeling that I'll have to make two categories, "colors I love", and "colors that love me back" lol But, I think any fabric that I'm smitten with will light me up and make me smile so is always a hit in my books! Can't wait to start digging in as well!
Oh. how I wish I had a G street fabric store where I live. I can't wait to see all your makes. Happy sewing darling I love all your fabric choices and pattern pairings.
Thank you so much, Mary! Honestly, I want a G street Fabric for every sewist, we all deserve a place that can make our hearts sing and build make our fabric collection affordable with quality finds! Thanks you for watching!
You are so funny, I know it's hard to say no, especially a good deal of fabrics, I got you...... same here lol, but u got the most beautiful fabrics and I like the patterns you choose. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Julie! Enjoy your linen makes, I feel like you're beckoning the warmer weather with your linen makes, and I can appreciate that so much right now! I look forward to sharing the makes as I get through this ever growing and beautiful stash! Thanks so much for watching!
The basic colour of the fabric at 25.25 min is a mustard tone. Chartreuse is a very bright, neon green. I don't think that any of your fabrics have that rather garish colour, and these earthy, orangey warm tones looks so beautiful on you. I SO like what you have picked and for that price! The lace got me thinking as to how to use it and with what lining. Thanks for the vid and keep on sewing 😁❗
Thank you Thank you! Ah you have such a great eye for color! Also, I couldn't agree more, that lace has had my wheels turning since I picked it up! Thank you for your lovely comment
I will stalk that store every day for fabrics costing 2.99. This is my first video that u came on my feed. Subscriber now. You selected some beautiful fabrics. Keep it up.
OMG, If only I lived closer (or would that be a big problem lol) I would also stalk them more frequently. It's INCREDIBLE, I wish everyone could visit G Street Fabrics. They also have a whole range of AMAZING fabrics throughout the rest of the store, I feel like I only ever show the $2.97 section because it's my FAVORITE!! So glad you enjoyed it!
Seriously, I wish we can all do meet ups here, it's incredible! Thank you so much, Amy! I love Theresa's channel and I am so thrilled you've joined my channel!
I can see your passion for fabric shining through. I love textiles, too. Have fun. By the way, the chartreuse and sage with lilac are my faves from your haul. Can't wait to see the makes.
Between Baltimore with G Street Fabrics and Atlanta with Fine Fabrics I have so much fabric envy it’s should be listed as it’s own medical condition 🤣😩. Lovely fabrics and great pairings. I too believe it’s not you it’s the storage that needs to change, maybe get some of those vacuum bags and double or triple your capacity….. if you can’t join them, enable them. 😂😇
HHAHAHAH I LOVE IT! I am so glad I'm not alone, I was like what can i get rid of in these closets to make more space for my things, like does hubby need all those geology books in the closet? Do I need to keep the old baby clothes or the stroller in the closet?- somethings gotta go! Listen, I remind myself every visit that I am a lucky girl, I do not take that for granted, love my G St, now you have me looking at ATL with a side eye, I have to go see someones shopping video at Fine Fabrics lol Thank you so much!
Thank you for satisfying my desire for fabric during this period of no fabric purchasing. I felt as though I was next to you, feeling the fabrics and shouting "You go girl" lol. I pulled out my GStreet purchases from Christmas and have paired them with some spring/summer dresses. I will be back in the DMV area throughout the summer and will definitely leave space in my luggage to accommodate fabric. I can't wait to see your creations and work through my Make Nine and building my dream handmade wardrobe.
That is the only way to travel, you have to leave space in your luggage for all your "souvenirs" you know! haha I love that! You gotta let me know when you're coming up that will be awesome! Thank you for the positivity and all that amazing energy, trust me it is received, I am thrilled I could bring you with me and get you back in your stash to appreciate your wonderful finds as well!
I bust out laughing this whole video. Thanks for this hall it made my day. I so want to visit G Street Fabrics. I’m excited to see all your makes. You were totally justified in buy that fabric that had already been cut. Like you I can see the final product, even if I have to squeeze my eyes tightly and tilt my head to the left, I can see it. Lol. The blue pointe is awesome, that jumpsuit will be amazing. I love the lavender and green too. Ok, I loved all of your fabric picks. That striped multi colored fabric is everything. In regards to the dress you’re wearing, it looks really nice on you. I too, dress modestly so I understand what you’re talking about. I think because of its color and texture, it gives off modesty. Your love for this wonderful crafts is definitely contagious. Thank you.
You're amazing Estelle! Thank you so much! I mean, I was like a kid in a candy store, ok let's be real, I was like a sewist in a fabric store! I was so happy and thrilled with my finds, color analysis be darned! The B6705 in the black is growing on me, I'm not in a rush to cut into it, so I might keep it and just consider adding a gathered tier to the bottom possibly. When in doubt, add a flounce should be my sewing motto lol.
Thank you , Michelle! Now Lilac is not usually my color, heck that fabric may not be, but it was TOO FABULOUS to be left behind! & I'm glad you agree, so now I feel more justified!
Tina, I think we are all happy Estelle talked me into this! I haven't been back since and I am trying to sew a few more things before going back, because somehow I never leave with just a "few" things!
@@TIMAbyFK lol … I think if any of us leave with only a couple of things we are not shopping ‘properly’ 😂😂. I am looking forward to seeing all your lovely makes and soon so you can go shopping again 😂😂💖💖💖
Hello Imani! YES fellow fabric lover! If i ever make a trip down to ATL, you need to tell me where to go, obviously if you are ever in MD, you know where i would send you- G Street Fabrics :) lol
Oh I don’t think I’d know where to start looking in that fabric store with so many different things for sale. I saw Stephanie Farrel Focus make that simplicity coat recently and the wrist ties were a really nice detail. Good luck with finding your colours
Thank you so much, I just found the video you mentioned by Stephanie, I can't wait to watch it! Thanks for the #SewYourColors22 challenge, I think its going to be wonderful, and I look forward to seeing how it impacts my sewing moving forward!
Jelly in a good way! When last I was in the DC area, I tried going toGStreet and they were closed. I was crushed, and not even sewing many garments at the time, but definitely would have gone. Thanks for the pics.
Oh no! Sorry to hear that! I wish you have another chance to experience G Street one day, I feel like every sewist deserves a good visit! I love that you were inspired to go even before you began your sewing journey, that's awesome!
Well ....omg I have those IKEA storage containers... They've been folded up flat in the far reaches of the closet shelf.... They will be perfect PERFECT for all those pdf folders... Thanks for bringing that to my attention. 👍 ... But I'm sorry to have to say this.... But that fabric haul??? Your a winter and most of those fabrics are summer palette. Depending on your lighting, from where I'm sitting watching, the only ones that may be in your palette is obviously the black rayon, maaaaybe the Navy bluish one but for sure the blue Ponti and that two tone pink... The Pink is a maybe. But when you put it up to your face it looks like it might work for both summer & winter palette. Winter palette are sharp jewel tones. There's an old book from the 80's called "Color me Beautiful" that was used as the color draping Bible back in the day. I've actually seen it in used book stores over the years. Once you get your colors done you will forever just automatically KNOW what works and what doesn't But don't despair.... Those colors only really need to be around your face. Sooooo skirts, slacks, shoes etc can be any colour of the rainbow.
Ahhh that's a helpful tip about the colors! you're inspiring me even more to get that done soon, I can't wait to share. I like the colors of the winter palette, I just looked it up, very beautiful and often colors I'm drawn to in the cooler months for sure. I know it'll make selecting fabrics a lot easier when I know, thanks so much! Also, yes those storage containers are amazing!
Hi Tisha, Welcome to the channel. My apologies for the delayed response, I got really bogged down around the time of this video. I am so happy you found me. I don't quite have an introductory video of sorts just yet, but it's on my list! I do plan to make a Q&A video soon, so please let me know if there are certain things you want to know and I could try incorporating that into my future video.
