I think babies are such concrete thinkers ... they think of a beard. as an actual appendage. Do you remember being little and thinking that when someone broke a body part that it actually fell off. ...and a body part isn't disposable! ...So, daddy lost part of his face! I do! I remember! My mom had to explain it to me!
Their little brains need a little time to process what they had already learned and bonded with. The little black baby was devastated. It brought her to tears. Right now this seems funny and sweet, but just think about how children feel when the parents are not in their lives. Painful.❤
The baby is actually suffering because his world is so small and he's so sensitive to the changes in it. It's not sweeet, it's actually very sad, it's a sad thing about early childhood and maybe we shouldn't cover up the seriousness of it by pivoting to how cute it is. Babies have to adjust to change and these are just small little steps every human has to take in life. It’s only funny because well it’s a little funny to cry at a difference in body hair. It helps babies form lasting bodily memories before they're able to form what we normally think of as "memories" and it's a crude way of ensuring their safety at a time in their life when they haven't developed any logical understanding of anything. The "resilience" of babies is actually their high sensitivity and ability to hang onto memories in their body. If something really, really scares them, the amygdala will hang onto that for years and years. I agree with you that babies cannot be protected from everything and no one is "at fault" for the million benign things that upset them, but I think it's totally backwards to assume children get their memories wiped clean the moment after their distress is over. Our ancestors survived their childhoods because they were resilient memory makers, not because they were resilient forgetters.

Babies have to adjust to change and these are just small little steps every human has to take in life. It’s only funny because well it’s a little funny to cry at a difference in body hair. It’s like when a baby is scared of its shadow. It’s nothing we can protect them from however it is harmless and the will learn that. In the meantime chuckle at the humour in watching them learn. It’s okay In those instances to laugh because the laughter also teaches that there is nothing to fear.

A child in despair is "adorable" to you? Why can't you just see it as sad or upsetting? This kind of upset is unavoidable and will always happen, but it's not something to gush over. We can just feel bad for them. We don't have to cover it up with the "adorable" stuff.

@@brodi-liciousdre9319 Let me word this politely if I can. Look up the purpose of the amygdala if you haven't already. It a trauma formation center. It helps babies form lasting bodily memories before they're able to form what we normally think of as "memories" and it's a crude way of ensuring their safety at a time in their life when they haven't developed any logical understanding of anything. The "resilience" of babies is actually their high sensitivity and ability to hang onto memories in their body. If something really, really scares them, the amygdala will hang onto that for years and years. I agree with you that babies cannot be protected from everything and no one is "at fault" for the million benign things that upset them, but I think it's totally backwards to assume children get their memories wiped clean the moment after their distress is over. Our ancestors survived their childhoods because they were resilient memory makers, not because they were resilient forgetters.

Oh, honey... You're so sweet for your compassion! ❤ As a parent, I can guarantee no babies were traumatized as a result of this! They're constantly experiencing brand new changes, multiple times daily, and go through a range of emotions rapidly. Trust me, they quickly learn and will be over it after daddy plays a familiar game. Babies have the same reaction over glasses being taken on and off! 😊
