🚨Hey friends… We recently created "The Producer Files" to provide producer-songwriters with business strategies from the trenches, in-depth classes (not on TH-cam), and interviews where producers share how they make a living. It's all 100% free. You can learn more here: rb.gy/wybbxr
Thanks for watching! It's less about risk and more about control. Sync is generally a less controllable income stream overall than something like 'direct to client work' so we put sync in the "Deal Income" category. Direct to client work... One person says yes, you get paid, you make the song. Sync work... You make a bunch of songs (in many cases with no upfront payment)... Library has to say yes, then an opportunity for it needs to come along, then supervisor has to like it, then the editor has to want to use it, royalties need to all be set up correctly, etc. etc. Just less control overall. More stuff has to "fall in place" for a paycheck to finally arrive. One model isn't better or worse than the other it's just important to know the difference and make smart choices so that you can build long-term wealth with your catalog (sync, royalties, etc.) while still being able to pay your bills this month (income streams you have more control of).
