Hey Joey You did a good job of salvaging what looked like a potential swarm disaster. I took good notes as I brought one home this evening that is at least 8 days old and very heavy. Glad you found the queen as that was the high point of the video. I wish I had the “stay calm” attitude that you show when you are faced with a difficult situation. This year is swarm city in my area. I have already caught 2nd swarms in 5 locations and a 3rd swarm in another location .. plus 5 more in new spots I set traps out in. Hopefully this year will jump start us from our last year setback from the late freeze All the best !!
Thank you for the kind words. This has had the most active swarm season I ever remember. I've already repurchased more boxes and frames this year. They are bringing in a lot of nectar.
Thanks Joey. They sure were a comb drawing machine. I'm surprised you didn't put a drawn comb in the top box to entice them up. Hope they move up because as big as they are they will be swarming in 2-3 weeks. They could almost make honey this year. LOL Have a great day.
Nice catch. I would shake the bees off into new box, then quickly skin off burr comb with hive tool. It won't hurt the bees & they'll climb right back on the frames. I'd tweek the swarm traps to hold a 2nd row of frames so you don't have burr comb. With the honeyflow on, you're ok with the 2nd deep.
I will let mine go up to 10 days in a trap and generally don’t have a problem with them building comb on the bottom of the frames. But with a really big swarm, that number goes down. You did the absolute best you could do with that. God bless Joey!
I have a feeling I'm gonna feel your pain 5 times over. When I go back to the farm next weekend I have 5 swarms to box that were caught sometime prior to last weekend. Some could have been caught 3 weeks ago. Fortunately I have permission to start a new yard 1.5 miles away so it'll be a one way reorientation. Hopefully that's far enough that they don't fly back.
Pretty cool!! Its amazing how fast of builder's the little bees are.. I dont know how you stand there with thousands flying around getting stung lol I took my grandsons to the Dallas Zoo last yr and they have a Bee Hive, I got stung 3 times and was ready to go home! They were everywhere..
Thank you. This hive setup came from Frank Cormier in South Louisiana. The box, lid and bottom are waxed dipped / cooked. facebook.com/allabouthoneybeesllc/
This is the DJI Action 4. I just bought it a few weeks ago. I have been using it with the settings at 2.7K 30F /RS with no issues yet. During the recording of this video I had it set on 2.7K 60F/RS and also had an external battery connected. After doing a little research I learned not only does the higher setting make the camera run hotter but the external battery does as well. The camera will run much cooler at 1080. I have also seen where the new GoPros do about the same, if not worse. My old GoPro 4 Black finally bit the dust but I could run it at 2.7K 30F with an external battery for hours or until the card was full. My iPhone was set at 4k 30F. They overheat easily anyway. I do like this camera and would buy it again.

I have one swarm trap left from last year that I have to cut out and I am dreading it. Thanks Joey!
As long as you do it when there is still a flow going it will be fine. You are probably way too busy to think about that right now. lol

Thanks. I wish I would have had some comb to give them.

I have been planning to cut the boxes in half and fixing the so I can put empty frames in the bottom as well. I just haven't done it yet.

Thank you. After I did this one I got to thinking if I had waited another week or so that comb would much easier to work with.
@@josephrawls It was a tweener.😀
Thank you for your time in sharing....enjoying watching....
Thank you for watching.
Nice look at all that extra comb for next year.
Yep that is a plus. Nothing goes to waste. Thanks for watching.

They should be fine at that distance. Don't you have bottom frames in yours?
Love the hat/vail you used. Good job on the transfer. You tried to use the old comb, sometimes it just doesn’t work.
Thank you.. Yeah sometime the comb is just way too soft to work with. Thanks for watching.
Joey I like that brand you put on that box and lid. Looks real nice. Those are some good looking boxes.
Actually the guy that I buy them from does that. That is his brand.

Thank you. As they get more established they will get a little more defensive when you go in the hive and make you suit up. lol Thanks for watching.
That was a tough transfer. Hats off to you sticking with it Joey!
Yeah this one was kind of messy with all that soft comb. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Joey!
Thanks for watching.
Add the box as large as that hive is thank you for shareing.
Yep. Thanks for watching.
I was offered a swarm box just today that has had bees in it for three years! Not sure I want to mess with it.
Go for it. I just posted a video a few weeks ago that the bees moved into last summer.
Joey, where did that box and lid come from? Nice job with cutting all that mess out but she is a beast.

Thanks for watching.
Hey Joey, what camera do you have that is overheating? I am asking because Melissa and I are looking for a different one. We are looking at the DJI.
