Scout's pants and Pyro/Demo/Medic's goofy boots actually being some of the hardest things to find
for scouts pants just do some gray sweatpants
Just roll up the legs on some grey sweats and you’ll be good!
I always interpreted scout's pants as baseball pants given how high waisted they are, the general color and the whole baseball schtick he has. They're really easy to find.
Honestly you can use jungle, jump and wet boots for pretty much any TF2 cosplay.
Just get solid colored grey baseball pants.
Cosplaying spy is one of the easiest just a suit with a mask

actually just get a mask with a spy face on it. now everyone sees you as spy
Gloves are pretty easy to find just not the material
And then walk into literally any other convention that isn't tf2 related with a paper mask to represent that convention.

very easy, in order of menu (primareis only)
Scout: A double barreled lever action shotgun that never needs to reload and has a drum magazine that doesn't affect anything
Soldier: A rocket launcher where you can shove 4 rockets and it somehow doesnt explode you
Pyro: Handmade flamethrower
Demoman: Grenade launcher
Heavy: Minigun, handheld
Engineer: Shotgun that sends burning hot shells in your face when you cycle it
Medic: uh
Sniper: 25 rounds internal magazine sniper rifle with comically large scope
Spy: revolver
overall, all are pretty easy to find in your local walmart

Just another proof that the artstyle of the game is so well thought out, not only are the characters just more iconic and recognisable, but also easy to cosplay.
For one Halloween I just randomly found a full suit in my closet, I used a white dress shirt as an undershirt, I used my dad’s old tie that he doesn’t use anymore and gloves and ski mask from years ago when my mom got into early morning running in winter and I walked out with a pretty accurate spy cosplay I assembled in litteraly one night
To this day I do not know where the suit came from
Honestly if you are so dedicated to cosplaying that you actually made your costume from the set you had in TF2, that's dedication right there. Like wearing Festive Flip-Thwomps, Bread Heads, Binoculus or hell, the three legendary hats
I figured out how to make my pyro cosplay very easily and quickly
1.get a red boiler suit
2.get a Balaklava and gas mask
4.get black rubber boots and gloves
5.get a fake fire axe
6.get some of them straps that are on the bottom of backpacks to tighten the straps
7.get some cardboard, paint and foam to make the back part and the grenades
Piece all of it together and done
And then there are those who cosplay with Unusual Effects

I am currently working on a soldier cosplay, funnily enough the easiest stuff to find was the helmet and the shovel, the hardest thing to find (and what I am currently looking for) is the red jacket

Last time when I was on convent in June there was pretty much of them( especially Scout's and Engi's. Sniper's and Spy's had second place). For every class there was at least one person.

In my hunt for pieces of my Scout cosplay, I made a tiny yet important (to me) discovery.
Scout doesn't wear a baseball cap--the top is flatter, the overall profile more square. Scout wears a cadet cap, like the ones you might see in a boot camp.

Also the ungodly amount of cosmetics gives a whole universe of wiggle room so that you can probably put anything on with red or blue and BAM!! COSPLAY!!
Also, as many people have done: Spy is the best for this. All you need is a dark red/blue suit, tie, and beanie and a piece of paper. This will allow you to get into any convention. Anime, Furry, you name it Spy can do it.
Sniper's rifle scope has to one of the hardest thing to recreate
It seriously just occurred to me that I already have most of the stuff for a red heavy cosplay, all I'm missing is the bandolier or whatever the band of bullets is called and the minigun. But frankly I could probably make those with minimal difficulty so uh yeah. I guess I know who I'm going as for Comic-Con this year

i think demo is probably the hardest,due to the bomb guard jacket usually being non budget friendly,esp to newer cosplayers
not to mention that you need a specific skin color to perfect it.

Well it makes sense, valve focused on simplicity cuz simplicity is key in making a good design, and ofc, the silhouette recognizability
Except pyro, pyro literally wears a REAL fireproof suit, it's extremely hard to find a professional firesuit
One time a hardware store near me had a bhp gear displayed on a mannequin which was posed like engineer and every single Item that was for sale and it wore was 1:1 looking like tf2 engi counterpart. It had the goggles, helmet, uniform with the pants, boots, the cable, wrench, bags, EVEN HAS A SMALL MINI DISPENSER-LIKE BUILD
Even these stores know it's easy and publicly showed it to all of us. Bought all it wore except goggles (they're 20$ WTF)
TLDR:military surplus guns somehow got expensive as all hell in the 20 years, but now they're the meta for cosplay
How to be pyro
1. Rubber suit.
2. Gas mask.
3. Have Schizophrenia
Spy's costume is literally suit, tie, pants, inner wear, ski mask (all either red or blue) and LITERALLY a piece of paper with any characters face if you want to go the extra mile

I'm a girl and I got a maschilist father. I really want to cosplay Soldier but uh... He would kill me if I cosplayed as a male character that is ALSO a soldier and it's from a game with violence. Man this just sucks a lot...

My first ever and only cosplay was Heavy. Got literally everything from Goodwill except for the items I already had and the bullet belt
My first cosplay was Medic and I just did my best to copy the features as much as possible with stuff from Amazon and what I already have :O
Reminds me of when I was in middle school in 2012 and I dressed up as scout for Halloween, got super long white knee socks, shaved my head, and got a similar looking hat and walked around with a bat.

A piece of advice I would give with cosplaying is to go for cosplays that have some pieces that can be worn as regular clothing as well. Cosplay can unironically help you bring a lot of color to your wardrobe, and this can help up your budget if you needed a particular type of clothing anyway. For example, I did a cosplay of Terry Bogard this year partially because I needed some new shoes and it was the perfect excuse to splurge on some red converse instead of sticking with my usual brands and also grabbing some cheap red sneakers just for the cosplay.

As a former Engineer Cosplayer, it was great getting nearly everything I needed at Walmart and Home Depot. But finding the perfect goggles and a really nice Jag-like wrench took a bit of eBay scouting. I never quite found a headlamp I liked and my glove was never perfect, but I still have most of those pieces, including that rusty ‘actually a metal wrench capable of murder in the library by colonel mustard’. Maybe I’ll find a new set of overalls and an appropriate shirt and go to a con in that costume again… or maybe not, given that it was always too warm for summer and too cold for winter.

Also the clothing part was around $50 - $60 for the outfit, But the bullets are around $100 - $150. So my outfit would cost around $200 - $250.
I got a whole bunch of cheap but nice clothes for my scout cosplay i wanted to do for halloween (like all my cosplay debuts). The only thing i needed is a headset- a week later i lost everything and all i have been able to find is the hat. The goblins stole my junk again
