    I’m in Ireland, graduate next year with a degree in international finance and economics with Chinese. I have semi fluent Chinese now after spending a year in shanghai. Next year I’ll be doing my masters in quantitative finance which has a lot of stats programmes, linear regressions, pdes, stochastic calculus, Monte Carlo etc. I have the equivalent to a 4.0 gpa and have won awards for the highest mark in my year (340 people) in both finance and Chinese.
    My question to you is, has Chinese any real value in finance? I get mixed responses, some think it’s great but don’t work in the industry, some think it’s of no use especially if I’m doing quantitative work. Also would you know of any industries that would use Chinese skills? I I unfortunately have no option to go to America.
    I’d appreciate your thoughts.

    • @NashTheo
      @NashTheo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is very interesting. Being bilingual is alwaan advantage so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. If you are trying to get into quant finance then look at it this way, you can apply to jobs China or any other place where they speak the language so that opens up more doors for you and potentially higher pay.

      I think having an engineering background is great for Finance. Since you are already taking STEM classes (which probably include some programming classes) I would recommend going into to Quantitative Finance jobs. If you just want to work in Corporate Finance, you have the advantage of working for a Chemical Engineering company without having to relearn engineering. Finance is much easier to learn on the Job (Financial Analyst) as long as you know how to use Excel and understand the basics.
