Big fan of this type of content. Fast, Cheap, Easy, but looks perfectly good enough. My imagination can be used to fill in the rest. This whole series is excellent.
Something that might be worth touching on, maybe in a future video, is what to do with all those cut parts. When you cut out the arches, you were left with some pretty large sized pieces of foam. One idea I can think of would be to then rip those parts into skinnier segments than the arch walls, to create doors. Maybe then add a vertical cut on the door to turn it into a set of double doors. Could add some wood plank sort of effect to make some nice looking wooden doors.
10:00 One thing about house paint is that hardware stores will sometimes sell small tester pots full of it. Like if they made a batch for a customer to take home, but it didn't get used. So they sell them for very cheap. I've gotten pots like these in a variety of colors for 50 cents at Home Depot in the past. They've been invaluable during my terrain projects, where I can't/don't want to use spray primers or Mod Podge. Those testor pots are likely to last me for years.
God I love that you made the comment at 11:00. Always frustrating hearing "oh this is a beginner, absolute starter project. I'm gonna do non-beginner things just because"
Great post , I appreciate the professional way your ad stressed the positive things about Square Space without belittling your previous provider. We need more class and dignity today , thank you
Be really easy to whack together some wooden floors that overhang just a bit into the arches to make a full modular ruin system. I think I'm gonna do that...
I've been binging your videos recently. Painting a Kill Team, got some buddies who want to play Frostgrave, so I'm cranking terrain out now. Built some of your modular ruin walls with EVA foam, going to try some MDF panels with your caulking/roller trick tonight. Looks like these ruins will be next on my list! Keep it up, man. Shoutout from a fellow Winnipegger!
Hi Jeremy, as always an enjoyable video! Thank you! Now, I am sure you have been asked numerous times, but I am going to put another plug for a video to show off your evolved crafting space! I have been a subscriber since the very first posts and have watched your crafting space develop and evolve to suit your needs as you grow, as a creator and crafter. I would love to see how you have it set up now. :). Thanks for the great content!
I can definitely hear your construction background just by those first words. I always put "good" before the other two, but if I can get them all then it's a mega win! Nice work! Thanks for sharing
Based on some of your previous builds, I could not help but think to add magnets so you could stack at will, 1 - 2 - 3 stories, this would also save space for storage.
You know, with a few additions, you could make a pretty cool aquaduct system. Just using two pieces of even the dollar store foam core with a strip on either side of the top to making a wider spread that allows traversal on either side of the trench part. I keep wanting to make a few pieces that I can set up to cross the table for some games. But for something simple, I might consider gluing heavier washers under the bottom of each arch on the bottom just to add a bit more weight there.
Solid video. I don't expect to acquire a hot wire cutter anytime soon, but this idea is definitely gonna sit in the back of my mind until the day comes.
So good - just so, so good!!! What a perfect project as-is, or as a start for more complicated or detailed terrain. Makes me want to hit the garage and do some crafting!
I also like the versatility of these because of the sheer number of archways. Could have ramps that lead up and platforms that span across the bottoms of the archways, not even mentioning how easy it is to see models through the gaping holes in the walls.
great video again!!! an idea for those arch pieces you cut out; slice them thin and now you have a bunch of doors! ( I'm sure you thought of that already)
I was thinking about pillars for a game the other night. Unless you glue a big base on them stability is always an issue. And then I hit on the idea of empty shotgun shells. 410 and 12ga empties both work. Consistency is excellent and many are even “fluted”! Cut the crimping off, a good coat of grey or white spray and voila!
These look great and make me want to get a Proxon foam cutter. Then the more practical side makes me wonder if a similar project can be done with cardboard? I see some experiments with crafting in my future.
This is good. Your under water ruins were good but once you glued fish tank stuff onto them it has one use. This has many uses and use that scatter terrain to tie into your world. You could put magnets or even tooth picks to say hang ice sickles or jungle vines drop some tress and jungle ruins.
Did you make the piece on the book shelf behind you? If so did you make a video about it? This video is awesome. Thanks for all you do for the hobby community.
Turns out you don't really need to make aqueducts all that wide. The Roman ones were only around 2.5 - 3 feet wide internally and when you add the side walls probably 5 - 6 feet wide. On the tabletop, that would only be an inch or so across. They were taller than they were wide (with a closed top), to make it somewhat possible for people to go inside to maintain them. I think the real trick is just to add a piece on top of the archway to represent the aqueduct, in a way that makes it obvious it's not just part of the archway, but specifically something else.
Would you ever do a video of a studio tour? I know we've seen it in the background over the years, but would be cool to get context of the whole space you work and use your terrain in :)
I really appreciate you NOT going the extra mile with making these look good for the "gram" so to say. I absolutely hate it when creators do the bait and switch with "You can do this too (so long as you have hundreds of dollars of equipment and materials)". I really appreciate it!!!
I know those are from your aqua build but I like that you covered the original build so thoroughly. Its too bad there is not way to 'Skin' a build. Like you could do magnets, then slap on some cyberpunk caution paint or grim dark elements or underwater stuff. I wonder if there are tiny projectors or lights to give a neutral piece like this, a vibe.
Hi Great work. With much researching I have froud you channel, however I would like to hide a plane old water tank. Maybe make it look like a Castle, so it is not modelling. I think I can make the product but adding the detail I am not sure. Any help in detailing and painting would be appreciated Thank you
They look great on the table, but they don't have much impact on gameplay for many games as they don't really impact movement or line of sight. I'd probably add some floors between the levels, and maybe some bridges that go from structure to structure so that they give a bit of verticality to your play space.
Anyone have an idea what the templates are made of? At first I thought MDF, but then I realized he’s able to “pin” them…so that can’t be the case. And it can’t be foam, right? Because wouldn’t the proxxon just cut through that too? Thoughts?
It's a nice and easy design. The only problem i personally have with it is that it seems the models can't quite interact with it. You hide behind the column, that's it. Has anyone come up with ideas?
yes very nice like it and yes be fun to do but one thing do not have a foam cutter like tht but if did i do it as did in vid never had a bad enuf exsues to get one one day may be but will tune in to what you do
Hi and greetings from Germany 😀👋! This Video is great, thanks for that. It will help me and my friend to get an Table full with Terrain. The only thing i really miss is, how i could apply more playable Levels, Gangways, Stairs, Cover, etc. Do you have some ideas? Greetings Ruberius

I cannot express how much I enjoy your content brother. It's because of you, that I got into crafting like this. I just finished up a Jungle Skull-themed Dice Tower/roller for my Brother in law for Christmas. Complete with Water effects, Jungle plants, homemade flocking... I put everything I learned from your channel into this gift!
Another foam terrain... yay... I really wish for this stuff to become like 10x more expensive so people would start to be more creative with their projects. Of course if cheap (in some places) and fast (only if you have right tools) is your goal i guess it'll work.

Maybe even a dark "oops!" paint!
Highly modular projects like this really show off your genius for this stuff. Thanks for all the inspiration you bring to the hobby.
Oh these are amazing. I can also see easily connecting some archways with cardboard strips to make upper floors and walkways.

PLEASE expand on this. With some floors and something to block some of the arches this is a complete table/system
Be really easy to whack together some wooden floors that overhang just a bit into the arches to make a full modular ruin system.
I think I'm gonna do that...
Just do that. Do you need an extra video for that?
@@gornser I'd like to see Jeremy's take on it since I find this chanel entertaining. I hope you do, too.
Nicely done. The aesthetic would work for a historic Stalingrad WW2 table.

You can also magnetise some floors to go on top.

Solid video. I don't expect to acquire a hot wire cutter anytime soon, but this idea is definitely gonna sit in the back of my mind until the day comes.
Considering it's using a template on both sides, this might be doable with the cheap hand-held ones
Awesome build, going over the texturing and painting basics is always nice for the newbies!
Looks good. Glad to have you back to regular posts again.
That looks so cool and it inspires me to craft similar pieces to set the scene in Rappan Athuk. Great work!
Can’t believe you found an effective and useful place to use the most ancient of all tools.
Rock.

This is some top OG style BMC and I love it
Magnets inside them to keep them stacked for tall walls. Or blue tac.
oooo Im going to do this one with the kids over the Xmas hols, thanks for the great idea!
My first thought was "be ace for Napoleonic ruins" brilliant stuff!

This felt so classic BMC and I can dig it.
Thank you for yet another awesome video!
Do you happen to have a template available for the arches?
You could easily add some foam core broken floors to create playable levels, ideal for skirmish games
A headstone at the top of the arcs should be a very minimum. Awesome episode i got soen inspiration from it!

Thanks for the video. I had some extra foam and time, so I copied this. Excellent and easily produced terrain.

love your work mate
This seems like it would be a great technique to make Stalingrad factory ruins for WWII games like Bolt Action!
Looked up when you were holding the template at face level and thought that you had a pair of knickers on your head.
Do you have a video showing how to use the Guide Pro and the Angle Cutter?
I don’t think so. I haven’t used it much.
I love this! What are the templates made of?
It looks like mat board, But, this is what I jumped in the comments to ask as well.
@@marksmith7517 I dug deeper in the comments and Jeremy answered elsewhere that it was medium weight chipboard.
yup, medium weight chipboard which is also called matte board. Any dense cardboard paper will work.
What material are the templates made out of?
Great video as always.
The 1" inch sheets are the same time as thicker blocks because you just stack the cuts :)
That’s completely true! 🤔
I'm having troubles finding Mod Podge in France. What do you think i can replace it with ?
I rlly appreciate the hot wire tips!!!!!
What are the templates made out of so that the hot wire won't go through?
Just heavy cardstock

I'd probably add some floors between the levels, and maybe some bridges that go from structure to structure so that they give a bit of verticality to your play space.
They reduce line of sight way more than you’d expect. If you want complete ground level blockage just make the first level solid.

Medium weight chipboard (dense paper)

Now we need a video for using the arched cut out scraps! Lol
Fun video. Any advice on making those cuts without a hotwire table?
I would try square holes, a Sharp blade and many thin Cuts.
Any chance you drove past Archibald and Plinquet before making this vid?😂 Great vid, as always!
