Man I’m 39 and I’ve been playing guitar most of my life but feel like I never made it past intermediate level. TH-cam has so many amazing videos that any kid should be able to become great with people like you giving awesome lessons like this! Thank you!
back in the day there was amazing guitar talent but like you say, the barrier to entry was way worse for beginners. these days you can get insane quality affordable instruments with all the lessons and inspiration free online. most of us older dudes started out with unplayable instruments and had to buy books etc to learn the songs we liked. Unless of course you could afford good private instruction which was also much more hit and miss back then.
Same! I was stuck in a rut, took a couple 2-3 years off and picked up again. Been doing the TH-cam’s, learning better habits, back to basics. I held the pick wrong for all of those years
What I like about this is that not only shows you WHAT to play but also explains how the "Hendrix" style fits in place of the regular chords - great job thanks.
redrock1963 yeah but hes tooooooo much 'theory' i'll. Bet jimmy never knew any theory at all. Just knew wat he wanted to hear. Like clapton. No theory. Cant read music, just knows wat sounds good. And bad
@@edwardbamford9816 Haha yes for sur he didn't. Such a talented genius this guy... Personally I do need this theory because otherwise I don't remember anything + I love the mathematicals aspect of music. It's super interesting. Not saying it's necessary to know that thing to be an artist, and it's not because you know that shit that you are an artist, but it's definitely super interesting.
I swear this is the first time that i have been able to play this intro, you explain it so well, all other tutorials start out with more of a finger picking style solo sorta way, to hard for beginners you make it so much easier thank you
Damn that's the perfect balance between chatting and playing. Same with the speed. Little music talking but not too much so not annoying when we play and replay the video. + chart available. What else?! You found the perfect combination ;) Thanks man, you're awesome!
This is a great video. It has made my year. It's is clear enough, repeated in stages and backed up by theory and structure. It's lets you know how to riff on your own using the general rules of theory.
I have to agree, very good lesson indeed! I am quity a newby and am struggling a bit right at the start already ... Can you please explain, what exactly is meant with "the harmonics" at the beginning? Is it just about playing the high and low E string while muting the other strings or or what's the trick?
Man, I can’t believe it your dad played with the Comets? Oh my f**kng God, I didn’t know he had a son. Dude, you are awesome, you sound great and wow, what a teacher. I really appreciate this video, your dad was awesome man, good for you!
Thanks Man! Appreciate the time and effort and the explanation.I guess a book could be written around the song Little Wing. I'd buy it. You should write it!
Great lesson! Thanks.....that guitar looks like a late 90s? I have a 1996 712 that looks like that except it is rosewood back and sides and doesn't have the diamond inlays.
Hell yeah man good tutorial here I'll definitely use. You teach it style directed to the point making it simple not a bunch of unnecessary talking. Good not theory..fact
Yes indeed, theory is good to know. If you check out the chords on other Hendrix songs, you'd recognize that his songs are slippery--they slip in and out of related keys, each joined somehow. So, speaking theoretically, the F# chord in E natural minor is half diminished, not the diminished one demonstrated at the start. Now, if you want to look at the chords in the second part, you might first recognize that the A after the Bm and Bflat is a major version--so one can think of (and hear) some parallel images of B descending to A, and then G descending to F and then to a C, the latter three being a V-IV-I in the key of C. At that point the C becomes the flat VI in the original key of Emin and the progression ascends diatonically: C-D-Emin. Overall, the chords are not entirely diatonic (the A major and F major are not), but they are idiomatic to Jimi's physically slippery guitaristic music idiom. That's all!
Hello Sebastian , Augusto and rumbleish I wanted to reply sooner, I just got caught up in the September "back to work" mode. I am very happy that you enjoyed the Guitar Tutorials on "Little Wing" and Hotel California". If you are interested ,my you tube channel is robertlabellyoutube . A number of people have subscribed and it will keep you posted on my latest installments of Guitar Tutorials , performance videos and Concert announcements. I also offer private instruction on Skype in real time. These are done at our Music Studio using state of the technology. Again, thank you for watching, stay tuned and keep in touch.
The b minor chord is tricky and you don’t have it fingered how you have it in the picture :/ also the Fadd 9 your second finger is on the 2nd fret 3rd string. But it shows something else on the diagram
Anyone like Don Henley so obsessed with copyright protection that young artists are forced to take down video covers demonstrating different styles, for example, Gabriella Quevedo and her beautiful finger-style rendition of Hotel California (20 million views, performed when she was 17) , are cutting the throats of their own songs.
when it takes a paragraph to explain the next note you're going to play I get lost and forget what song you're playing. Very hard to digest. I guess I'm not cut out for theory and all that stuff. I'd rather you just show me how to play it and for those who need to know why a note fits here or there you can tell them . I don't need to know why two apples equals the number two, I can see it, likewise if you show me, I can hear where they go.
That is what a lot of people would call "genius". Take a complex idea and play it in such a way that it sounds simple. But deconstruct it as maestro does here and you see what Hendrix internalized. Personally, I like this teaching method because the chord structure exposes its route and the transitions can be more readily understood and anticipated.
my father says it's fact and here's why.......... ALL the chords are in the key.... oh except for the Bb.... OH and F but it sounds good.... Ummmm....... do some people just not listen to themselves talk?
No disrespect at all; you are a super teacher. But Jimi would light a joint and tell you he never had a lesson in his life. He told that to Dick Cavett. He was from another planet. Probably never heard the word pentatonic.
Jimi Wasn't on your planet Joseph Overtired.. and he didn't sweat the small stuff. This guy teaching is so dam mechanical its hard to feel a single thing hes doing. This is a classic tail of No soul...This guy would be one that would dwell on the word Pentatonic. Where as Jimi Would say Oh yeah groovy man Lighten Up................. Hey Joe........ You hearing me Or in your case is it one can't fill a cup that's already full....
I think he would understand it yes..... even if he hadn't already known, I'm pretty sure he'd understand it completely........ And that's not to say he didn't already know.
This is by far the best lesson I have ever found on 3 years of guitar on TH-cam

Dude! I love your hat
Sweet Jesus, that's a good lesson!
Excellent lesson ! That is a nice sounding acoustic
I didn’t know Hobbits played guitar.
I figured on flutes but hey, ya learn something knew every day.
Excellent work all kidding aside
Great lesson! Thx very much!
This seems over my head yet doable
Great presentation. Thanks ;0)
What s captador??
que grande Diego
Una mezcla entre Morrison y Maradona. No sabía que Diego tocaba la guitarra
fantastic lesson thank you!
Little wing is in the key of G major, hate when people try to say keys are in a minor key. Theory is its G major not Em. Em is the 6th chords.
Great video, thanks.
nice .. thank you
Holy shit that gives me goosebumps
The chords in the display are not the same he plays
wait, is that really his thumb nail? it is crazy long, wtf
thanks man
Thanks! 🎸🎸🎸
I don't know theory, but this guy talks in away that I feel like I may be able to 👀
Thnks gary moore
Little paranoid? Or is that undisclosed?
Where's part 2?
Crazy
Nice !!!!!
You might want to rewrite that chord chart and.make it a little clearer.
Baia baia, no sabia que la roja susel paredes tocaba tan bien la guitarra
kool fine nice teach
thanks Danny DeVito! Great tutorial! By the way, last time I saw you were using another haircut...
gonzalo arias he looks nothing like Devito! You however look like a douche bag!
Never knew Zakir Hussain can play guitar as well.

my father says it's fact and here's why.......... ALL the chords are in the key.... oh except for the Bb.... OH and F but it sounds good....

It’s not an opening 12* harmonic, good lord 🙄

Tone Log Vintage Replica's 1966 serious dude? He’s showing us the technical but it’s up to us to put in the proverbial “feeling”.
Goddammit man really????
Thank you
Excellent lesson. Thank you very much.
