    I'm a native Portuguese speaker and I didn't know that the word 'feitiço' (spell) was related to 'fetiche' (fetish). Actually, I thought that our 'fetish' had come from French as well!

    Very interesting. In the back of my mind I've wondered why the word was used in such very different ways without actually bringing the question forward. You've answered a question I didn't know I was asking - and that's the best!

    From an African word for a "doll" which housed spirits. Later Europeans used this as an example for what "primitive" religions are: those who think the divine is found in material objects. In their views, these people "fetishized" these effigies or dolls or whatever you want to call them.
    Hope this helps

    y. My three and six year old play the same game all the time, and I always point out to them they should use their imaginations and be content with what they can afford. All that to say that even though it seems that Marx never really left kindergarten mentally or morally, Brady always brings the best videos and interesting topics. Thumbs WAY up for Brady's good work.

    This is awesome! But it would be cool if you could like put some text on screen when they say a word like feitiço so it's easier to write down/google/remember. I mean, it's no big deal, just something that would be useful?

  • @bengesell

    Psychology is a very soft science. I am not sure if "science" should even be included in the same sentence. To base any hard proof of fact on someone's opinion of how they "think" or "feel" is silly. Marx's problem with the price of shoes, is just that, his problem. By pointing out the same material, utilitarian purpose, and vastly different cost is a good observation. However, anchoring the "injustice" of expensive shoes that you can't afford, and then calling that a "science" is jealous

    funny, according to the "Nova Fronteira" etymological dictionary by Antônio Geraldo da Cunha (Brazilian linguist) the origin of the word feitiço is the latim "facticius", ficticious in english, which makes more sense in my perspective...

    I mean, I don't see any reason a society should have rationality at all. People are not totally rational beings.
    Presumably human society would contain both rationality and irrationality. Shouldn't a scholar of society be interested in determining what about a society is and is not rational?

    It seems Marx was such a simple man he could not grasp the concept that people are different and so they assign different value to basically the same thing. When one adopts the view that Marx was a simpleton than it becomes clear why Communism forces absolute equality and sameness onto every aspect of human life.
    In reality though everything is relative and quite different, so utility is just one of many characteristics people value in the things they buy.

    Quit this sofistry.
    To call something art IS opinion.
    Ok?
    To value item A higher than Item B on nothing more than branded ideals and not on its usefullness is not a universal RIGHT.
    That is hust foolishness.
    Ok.
    This is not opinon this is a pragmatical stance.
    If you sincerely want to act out your freedom as a commodity fetishist you do not have a primal urge for freedom.
    You just want to boast with the shit you can by.
    Well you are free to be stupid and thats ok by me.

  • @infinummjb
    @infinummjb 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Something you call crap others might call art/valuable commodity. What gives you the right to force your opinions about things onto others?

  • @infinummjb
    @infinummjb 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hehehe, so you can not even answer this simple question. So much expected from someone supporting Marxist ideas ;) Let me tell you right here and now. Your opinion about what is or is not crap is just that - your opinion. Do not be surprised if it is disregarded by everyone else.
    And yes, everyone have a RIGHT to value things on anything they want. Some value only usefulness but most people value things on much more broad set of criteria and it is very OK, it is normal.
    Deal with it.
