The Apple Watch I purchased in 2020 kept giving me low pulse rate warnings. I took this info along with the ecg readings to my doctor. Long story short, I ended up with a pacemaker for sick sinus syndrome. I thought I was just tired. I could have passed out while driving if I had waited to see a doctor much later than I had. I’m a huge advocate for always wearing my Apple Watch. I’m 73, live alone, and ride my bicycle alone more than 2,000 miles a year, including in other countries. The fall alert alone makes me feel a lot more confident, but I also like tracking my sleep, keeping an eye on my pulse (I deep breathe when it goes too high), and knowing that it will alert me if other medical events are imminent.
I got one for my son, and he loves being able to get alerts etc. without pulling out his phone while he manages his restaurant.
Sometimes technology really is a blessing.

I wholeheartedly agree with you! I am so glad I got my apple watch. It's an older SE model, yet so useful. I love the vibrating alarm (no more traumatic sound alarms on my phone in the morning), the ability to pay with it and receive/reply to messages without having to pull out my phone or credit card, the fact that I never miss a call even though I'm not near my phone all the time, the timers I can set very conveniently for everything (especially when I cook)... and the list goes on and on

what a bittersweet story - i had a very nice boss/client suddenly pass away at home from a heart attack a few years ago. his older son (17) was the only one at home when it happened and wore his dad's apple watch for while afterward, which showed when his heart stopped (part of his grieving process, which included some guilt but he did get through it with family/friends support). it's wonderful and downright amazing what technology can do for us these days, but it can't save us every time. so glad it helped this lady.

The takeaway: we’re all going to die. But how we live, can determine what happens in between. If tech can help prolong and expand your life, then I believe it’s worth it. Apple Watch is more than the sum of its parts. It gives me comfort having access to the few but important bits of information and activities I do every day. Was I alive and well before Apple Watch? Yes. Will I continue to? Yes. But my quality of life, however I define that, is the better for it.

I didn’t get a warning for Afib on my Apple Watch. It was the ecg feature that detected it. I went to the ER and the ER was going to do electro cardioversion which is a shock that the lady had. But my heart returned to normal rhythm just before they did it. I was referred to a cardiologist and he was surprised they decided to shock my heart because my age and no previous heart issues I had low risk for blood clots. Cardiologist thought ER doc was too quick to resort to shock. Normally they start with Metorprolol ER first, the gold standard for heart arrhythmia.

I got a body composition scale from Amazon, surprisingly inexpensive, so I am sure I’m losing fat and not muscle or bone. I make a whey protein and collagen shake in the blender for lunch. I take a Berberine after every meal. If I overdo one day, I eat a can of sardines for dinner the next day. It’s working so far. Down 6 pounds of fat in two weeks. I am also in a calorie deficit, and as I lose weight my calories needed drop also (the scale reports:. What people don’t realize, and why most rebound. I am done rebounding. Best of luck! If you have 2x apple watches. One can always charge, while there is always a fully charged one to pick up.
It is not necessarily worse for the environment, because you can use both devices for the lifecycle of two watches.
