Those Navy submariners should've known better to play a prank on Mac because they haven't seen a woman for a long while, even a US Marine officer like her.
This is actually a realistic take on the "silent service". Nuke subs have a lot of practical jokers on the crew; it's one way of dealing with the tension of being crammed into a small boat underwater with a nuclear reactor (and on SSBNs having nuclear warheads as well) on board. Food isn't as good as surface Navy (deployment at sea is longer, so not as much chance for fresh food or port calls), and people have to blow off steam somehow. It's also a bit of an initiation, and officers aren't immune from it. If you're a good sport, the jokers usually lay off....eventually. If not, they'll keep pushing you until they break you. Nothing personal; but they can't afford to have crewmates who will break under stress in a combat situation or something aboard subs.

That's an awful lot of watertight doors and headroom for a submarine.....the show writers could have at least read some Tom Clancy and come somewhat close lol.
They did their best with the sets and equipment they had. The Navy wasn't very willing to open up bases and equipment to the show until about Season 5 when they filmed for a couple weeks on the John C. Stennis (portraying the Patrick Henry in the show). Recruitment started to go way up, and the Navy became much more cooperative!
You can't. The only place that has episodes now is Paramount+, and then not even 100 of the 227 episodes filmed. Your best bet is finding the DVD box sets.
It's called fan service and this show ain't happy without having at least one. 1:06 Also, when women like Mac wear socks I think of one thing: cat paws.
Aside from the fact that they'd never berth a female officer in normal berthing and the pways are clearly filmed on a surface ship, pretty funny. She most likely would have been put up in either the XOs stateroom or had an entire compartment to herself.
You're aware that space is extremely limited on a sub right? The only person with a private room is the captain, maybe XO. Other boat's officers share a room and enlisted share a rack. Our JAG heroes may be officers, but they aren't the boat's officers, thus they make do with what's available.
They were informed when they arrived that they'd be "hot bunkin'" for the duration. That means, sharing a rack with another sailor, but sleeping in alternating shifts - while one is working, the other is sleeping.
Ok people trust me, there is no f••king way this would happen in the real Navy. Most likely she wouldn't get assigned to the case anyway and if she did she sure as hell wouldn't be shoved in with the enlisted. She would at best bunk in the XO's cabin and at the very least an officer's cabin.
@@JimboLogic You're probably right. But it's more fun this way. They did get all the uniforms and protocol correct, tho. A retired Marine named Matt Sigloch was their military advisor and he made sure everything was as correct as possible.
