These projects were dreamt up at a time when Japan had a growing population and booming economy. It has neither of those anymore. You can only justify such massive mega-projects if you have a HUUUGE population to begin with. Japan's population is expected to be halved by 2100. In fact the entire world is experiencing a demographic crunch as people stop having children in sufficient numbers to maintain population growth. Right now we have nearly 8 billion people, with the same population density as Afghanistan at 58 per square km. that's quite low since we have a TON of empty land to build on. America alone has enough empty, barren land to home billions of people. This isn't visionary, it's fucking megalomaniacal.

That sounds weird, buildings inside a bigger building, but this was quite systematic because now, you can walk from your grandma's house on the other side of the city and stay in the same building. But no one wanted the idea of living in a city that has 1 building. Well, there's a town where everyone lives in 1 building. Its name is Whittier and it's in Alaska. But Whittier is just creepy. Unsurprisingly, no one wanted to spend more than the world's GDP on a 10,000-meter building that takes 150 years to build, so it wasn't built.

Quite interesting many of the Chinese towers don’t need a “staff” to “boost” their height. (Maybe just because building today no longer chase the “Empire State Building” aesthetic)
Shanghai Tower’s public observation deck is actually the tallest in the world despite being shorter than Burj Khalifa. You can also ride the “fastest elevator in the world” and see the mass damper on top.
Burj Khalifa was going to be 1000 meters tall, but financial and structural challenges made them changed the height to something shorter as it is now.

It may be feasible to construct but not practical in reality. It takes a lot of energy to pump water to the top and the pipes used for toilet sewerage last roughly 100 years. I would rather see a structure built that is more resistant to mould and can last for 1000 years. Modern buildings get demolished within 100 years.
