10 years since Sandy Hook, and rather than move forward, it feels like we’ve gone backwards or stood still as this year saw 19 students and 2 teachers killed in Uvalde and countless other mass shootings. Our country is sick and not enough people care to heal it.
This was one of the best things I have ever seen SNL do. I remember when it came on live and I absolutely lost it. Such a moving tribute to those children and teachers who lost their lives days before the episode aired. I still get chocked up watching it.
Sandy Hook happened the day before. Paul McCartney was the musical guest and they already had the children's choir coming in for when he was going to sing "Wonderful Christmas". Paul McCartney offered to open the show by singing something, but Lorne Michaels didn't think anything felt appropriate and a star like McCartney was too much show. Lorne asked the choir director if the kids knew Silent Night, and they did, so they kept the opening simple and solemn. It was just the thing everyone needed.
I couldn't believe that SNL left me a weeping mess. It was the perfect opening. And the entire episode was just what was needed. I still ball when I see this
I'm back here because of the Uvalde, Texas, elementary school shooting. I shouldn't be back here. So senseless. I can't even imagine the pain the poor parents are going through right now.
What a precious way SNL honored the kids from Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown Connecticut. Huge Kudos to SNL.
This really was a moving tribute for the children of Sandy hook
one of my favorites. SNL has always had class and this shows it.
Can someone upload the cold open tribute to 9/11
+Alex Townsend Absolutely Alex.
Is THAT WHY they did this??
For a comedy show, SNL has always nailed it when it comes to noting sad events.
"Sad events"??
"Sad events"??
coming back to this because of the tragic events of May 24th. May all of those little angels rest in peace.
It’s almost ten years later, and it’s gotten so much worse. This is heartbreaking.
Fly on the Wall's Lorne Michaels interview (part 2) brought me here. Powerful stuff, and the dip to black at the very end definitely makes it work (thanks to Marty Short's suggestion).
I'm here because of that interview too,. It baffles me that it is still happening 10 years later.
What would these precious children become if they hadn't been taken from us???? This was one of the most beautiful performances in TV history ever.
The only time a bawled my eyes out watching SNL.
This one and when Seth’s final Weekend Update.
I'm only 18 and I have never watched SNL live, especially not in 2012. I've been thinking about the lives of the innocent children and teachers who passed almost 11 years ago today during the Sandy Hook shooting and the melody of silent night kept getting stuck in my mind. I don't know what it was, but looking into the Christmas lights I remembered the time I read Mark Barden talking about the time that Daniel Barden said the reflection of the Christmas tree lights in the window are beautiful and it made me want to take a moment of silence with myself. I took a moment for the victims of 12/14, Uvalde, and every other innocent person who has lost their life to gun violence. After, I decided to listen to silent night, and scrolled through the different versions. This is the first one I clicked on and I had no idea it was a tribute to Newton. I looked at the description and started crying when I realized. Sending my prayers today and everyday to the victims affected by tragedy. You are Loved.
RIP sandy hook victims. May their soul rest in peace. I'm sure they are sleep heavenly peace. Angels so beautiful
Beautiful singing.
Here bc of the shooting today in Uvalde Texas elementary school - at least 14 children dead.
heartbreaking
Americans love their guns more then their children, unfortunatly.
I remember watching this the day after the Sandyhook school Shootings the NY kids Choir did an Excellent job! What really smile was when they said Live From NY it's Saturday night!
This needs more views and thumbs up
Who’s here after the Ukraine choir?
Watched Ukraine open, now here and about to go for 9/11 one.... I am not American so I recently searched Sandy Hook and.... This is horrifying
here after the Texas shooting, the US never learns...
Perfect
i am a year younger than the survivors of sandy hook that graduated this year. it always seemed so long ago to me, but it wasnt. and it's still happening.
I pray that a shooting like this doesn't happen again in my country.
And yet, here we are. 5/24/22.
Powerful.
One more Mississippi on the black dip. (If we are getting picky).
Beautiful moving performance. Where would those 20 precious be if that had not been slaughtered? They were children damn it!!! This needs to stop!!!!
This still destroys me almost a decade later.
It happened 10 years ago.
Martin short fixed this cold open sequence , it bombed at dress rehearsal
Here because of the Apalachee High School shooting…..

Which one?
The kid behind the girl on the lest at 0:42
That kid usually does the rap part, but they cut that to make it more solemn due to Sandy Hook.
Make SNL Great Again!
