Thank you very much written12. I don't think it's really being nostalgic, it's just that it captivated all of us in a way that when we see it, transports to those times. Your rght about the announcers nowadays, it's not about the players or game. But about them. Similar to the nature shows on the Discovery channel.The narrators or host, don't really want to show us a poisonous snake, but rather how high and mighty THEY are by avoiding their fangs. In both cases, they stroke their own egos.
I loved it, too. For one thing, the announcers kept your attention by narrating the key plays of a game and doing some right-on anaylsis. They didn't swamp you in their egos and their silliness the way Bradshaw, Jimmy Jones and that whole crowd- and there are just too many announcers on those studio shows- does. And the music for This Week was something. Jazzy, dramatic, played by real instruments. Are we just being nostaglic here? Some things back then were better.
My favorite show in the world when I was a kid....still is!!
brings back memories of my grandfather and me on sundays before dinner. we watch highlites and get ready or a day of football. afl on nbc. nfl on cbs.
i remember watching this when it was on ESPN Classic,i taped it a few times too...
