The media has made it into this “all she ever writes is about her ex boyfriends”, when she Really doesn’t. All her hits for the past 10 years……. I can’t think of a single one about an ex-boyfriend. Maybe Harry Styles a decade ago, out of the woods and style. And she has released 86 songs since then. Out of the woods and style a decade ago, and one other song 8 years ago. So, 3 songs out of 86, written in the past 10 yrs. That’s not all that many IMO for someone who supposedly only “writes about her ex boyfriends”, don’t you think? And it’s pretty offensive since men write about women all the time. Maybe choose a recent song, to find out what 32 yr old Taylor is writing about instead of 18-21 yr old Taylor when she wrote this song and All Too Well. Maybe try something new? My Tears Ricochet, Exile (ft Bon Iver) , Peace, Cardigan from folklore. Or Marjorie, champagne problems, Ivy, evermore (ft Bon Iver) from her evermore album. Or her SNL performances of Lover and False God. Or another with Bon Iver called Renegade. I mean you have 83 songs not written about an ex boyfriend in the past decade to choose from.
I'm not sure I followed the conversation regarding writing about heartache and love. I think when referenced this comes off extremely misogynistic because every artist, including the male artists, write breakup songs. There have been many male artist that write full albums on their ex wives or girlfriends or about unrequited love and yet it only becomes a problem or spoken about when it's a woman writing these songs. Asking why anyone would date Taylor Swift is like asking why anyone would date Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Jay-Z, Harry Styles, Justin Bieber, Conan Gray, literally any male artist. They all have songs regarding their exes or their wives and I never hear anyone ask why people would date or marry those male artists.
