Hey this was super helpful. I’m swapping to carb on my 89 Chevy tbi and this was super helpful as I was freaking out when my mechanical fuel pump wouldn’t fit on the block
the line from the fuel line under-hood to the in-cab gauge is DEADLY. FIRE FIRE FIRE massive fire hazzard,oh and maret connectors arent for automotive wiring my friend, please solder the wires and use heat shrink
That pump does not need a fuel pressure regulator if you had used the one in the tank yes it would and did you take the one in the tank out i didn't its sucking right thru it on my 90 chevy tbi to carb swap its fine never floods or starves for fuel till just tonight i think the pump is on its way out but it lasted a few months and i ran out of gas a couple of times too so give me your thoughts
Hi Glen, I put a fuel pressure gage on my dashboard and monitor my presure, it takes a lot of guess work out of what is going on, everything is separated, like a car from the 60s. Never had a problem, the fuel gage in gas tank still registers correctly, thanks, mike
How do you do the fuel return? I'm doing this tomorrow to my chevy. I bought a new engine and putting my carb intake and keeping it carb but the motor I have doesn't have the opening for the mechanical fuel pump. Im running an external fuel pump to the carb. Help?
what was the problem in already installed electric fuel. however it was just a eeplacement video. well, I want to discuss a pehnomenon about gas developing in air tight fuel tanks. does it make any difference, in the performance of engine..
Hi Munsif, the fuel tank has to have a way to allow air in and most have evaporator canisters to let the fuel vent, but good point, with old school system it is good idea to have a one way air entrance system,
what part number is the Holley pump? I looked on amazon and typed HOLLEY UNIVERSAL ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP and got over 100,00 results with none that looked like yours.
Thank for the video. Is this pump loud? Would yot recommend it , my car is a 302 mustang with 650 carb and it has an external pump but some times when doing hard it runs out of fuel
I am adding an electric pump just like this from an all mechanical system. What gauge wire did you use for ground and hot wires and from what leads? My car is old like your truck so I can run it myself.
Hey guys new issue... Car was over heating so I changed the thermostat. Good do far. I see white smoke coming from oil top or hose in the front of my engine. Also, if standing in front of the car I see smoke around right middle spark plugs. What does this suggest. Will tightening them do the trick? There is a small hose in the front of the engine that was leaking water. May replace it too. I noticed clock, temperature and fan blower switches are not working. Everything else is fine. I don't know where all the relays are in the 63 Lincoln. Maybe something is covered up. Fuses appear fine. Help I'm a newbie.
If you go this route put a spare and wrenches to replace in your vehicle! I like these, but they aren’t the most reliable. I get about a year out of one then they quit. It’s pretty embarrassing to replace one on the side of the road, but better than paying for a tow truck.
Great vid, I learned something.thanks! Btw, a guy named Dan Akroyd has been making a good living impersonating you for years. I'll tell him to knock it off.☺️👍
Here is a much better way to connect your wires that is equally as easy as the wire nuts. In the building electrical section at Lowes or whatever you can buy a little package of COPPER crimps. The interior of that crimp is maybe 3/16 and about 1/4" long. Get a pair of crimping pliers that STAKE into the crimp. Your typical insulated type crimping tool is a piece of junk that will never produce a crimp that can be trusted. Same with most insulated crimps for that matter, and these are cheaper and you can see the finished crimp. I typically run all wires into the crimp from the same direction and after I have crimped the wires along the length of the crimp the crimp is now in the shape of a V. Then I use the rounded crimp section of the pliers to push that V closed and it becomes more like a closed cylinder. Put a piece of heat shrink tube over the crimp and you now have a connection that is going to last for a long time. If the crimp lives in a nasty environment squeeze some RTV in the ends. Be careful with the staking part of those crimpers. On insulated crimps you can actually cut too deeply and sever the wire in the crimp. www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-GS-388-Electrical-Aluminum/dp/B00079LN1Y/ref=sr_1_7?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1515203251&sr=1-7&keywords=wire+crimper+tool www.amazon.com/Gardner-Bender-GS-388-Electrical-Aluminum/dp/B00079LN1Y/ref=sr_1_7?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1515203251&sr=1-7&keywords=wire+crimper+tool
I agree with you 100% but going to florida I had to get out of the truck and change the fuel pump (not this one) and it was 1, 2, 3 and I always have another one ready to go, but again I agree with you for the long term,, thanks mike
You should always have a filter between the tank and the pump to keep any contaminates out of the pump or it may fail. Also those kind of electrical connectors are not made or automotive use, especially underneath the vehicle where they would get moisture in them and get corroded over time.
I thought it said that it was self regulating ?? A carb mechanical pump is around 4.5 to 5.5 psi I doubt that thing goes to 7 psi it's probably around 6 max
jordancaz28 Actually I install it on the frame next to the tank I found out if it’s too high it will vapor lock so if you keep it low as possible I haven’t had a problem I hope it helps thanks Mike
Hi Justin, you got to get a meter and when you turn the key switch on the positive wire will light up, but only for a moment because it has a safety that will switch it off if the car is not running,
Why would people want to go from fuel injection to a carb driven vehicle? I'm trying to do the opposite on my 1979 Caballero/El Camino, I'm looking at using an external low pressure electric fuel pump to operate my V6 carb engine. It is not my daily driver so when I do drive my El Camino, I have to remove the air filter cover & pour gasoline directly into the carb. I especially hate drowning the carb by pressing on the gas pedal too many times, as many people know, this is emberrassing cranking the engine over and over and nothing. At the very least I would like to use this electric pump just to prime the carb using a Y shaped fitting that allows gasoline to flow in from one end & at the opposite end 2 outflows through the split tubes: one outflow to the electric external fuel pump (using a toggle switch or a push button just to only prime the carb with gasoline) & the second outflow straight to the carb so that it keeps its natural flow. This way I primer with the electric pump so that I don't have to pour gasoline directly into the carb. Any advise from any viewers of this video? Thank you for the video Mike Haduck.
Hi Johnny, I don't know what to say, but it eliminated all my problems. And I wouldn't be afraid to drive it crosd country tomorrow, very simple , easy to troubleshoot, thanks mike
the last 8 carbed vehicles ive had, once to the floor and start EVERY TIME ,EVERY ONE OF THEM.change your fuel filter, check if your lines are collapsing and make sure your carb isnt fucked
Like i said that's a low pressure pump and will not over power the needle and seat i was going to go the way most guys do it and use the existing one in the tank with a fuel pressure regulator but i saw where someone had used an old mechanical one and it sucks riggt thru the existing pump this. Motor doesnt have provisions for that so for shits and giggles cut this into the line as close to the tank as possible and as low as possible and it's been fine for 3 months now
check my video I how replaced fuel injection with a carb, I go through the whole thing , but I did take the pump out and used one of the other outputs, I can't 100% remember, thanks
The teflon tape your using (the white tape in the blue holder) isn't rated for gasoline. You should be using the telon tape that comes in a yellow holder (the tape itself is slightly yellow color) that is the stuff that is rated to be used with fuel, gasoline being one of the many fuels it is rated to be used with...just don't want to see anybody burn their rig to the ground because of 2 inches of teflon tape, that would suck big time...
mike haduck haha no prob mike. i see those kinds of crimps all the time on old cars and while im sure they work, they're for residential applications. Cool vid and some good info, I like the idea of installing individual carbs on my lil toyota mr2.
I soldered mine, however my pump is a 14psi as my block runs of 8.5psi pressure the best. I need to replace my pump as it's vaporizing fuel or simply busted..

True. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ! It's a FIRE HAZARD waiting to happen !
I love your video, excellent, thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks Toro, mike
Just a suggestion but I would not use wire nuts and electrical tape for the connections. Butt-splice connectors with the silicone sealant inside.
Thanks Joe, mike

Glenn Manchester hey bud you still have the old pump in the tank wat pump. U using to pull fuel through it
if you dont pull the pump out of the tank you will have problems OVER AND OVER AND OVER
Where did u mount the fuel pump near the gas tank u removed the oem fuel filter and placed it there
Hi Carlos, I replaced the fuel line from the tank to the carb, and just spliced it in down near the tank, thanks Mike

Hi Luke, I just put an external fuel pump on the bottom of the frame, I dont have any problems with mileage
I got a fuel pressure regulator with return. I ran the existing return line to the regulator.
Does your electric fuel pump make a clicking sound?
Yes a little
@@mikehaduck-travel-mechanic884 okay cool mine does too thanks for the response
How would you say the Holly compares to the old universal one you had? I have that same universal one on my 59 ford, buy looking at the Holly.
Hi Taylor, I went thru a couple universals but since I got the holly it's working perfectly, I carry a universal just in case, thanks mike

Hi farmer, I hear you, I always got a extra one and will drive back and forth to Florida without any worries. Thanks Mike
have you had any trouble with this fuel pump? asking because i need to buy one and say this at my local autozone
Pucutun my friend accidentally left one on all night and still works perfect
chris18228 my friend did the same thing silly man lol
Just curious on why so many filters ?? You've got one screwed into the pump itself and then like 3 more see-thru filters under the hood.
Hi, they are gas filters going to the carb, it's a old truck so I worry about the rust in the tank,
Did your pump come with fluid in it or did it come dry I think I got a used one off Amazon
Hi d, I can't remember, Mike
what fuel regulator is that?
you're lucky you are so handy with things like that :-) nice job!
when you own junks all your life you learn to get good at it, lol mike
Teflon does not work with fuel it usually clogs the system
Thanks Mike
I replaced my holly fuel pump and within 10 minutes in died again. can it be that the holy fuel pump was defective?
Hi Javier, I make sure the gas tank can breath or the gas won't come through, I keep the gas cap loose if I am going far
Great vid, I learned something.thanks!

where do you hook hot wire
Hi ronnie, I hooked into the one that was going to the old fuel pump that was in the tank, thanks Mike

How about by the carburetor to a Filter?
?... what are you trying to say?
@@spanky522 what are you the fuel pump police IDIOT
It needs to be lower or level with the tank.
That was all done on the driver side right
Yes, on drivers side

About 2 years now, no problem, but I always carry a spare, Mike

jordancaz28 Actually I install it on the frame next to the tank I found out if it’s too high it will vapor lock so if you keep it low as possible I haven’t had a problem I hope it helps thanks Mike
Do u have the dual tanks. Thats why i ask if it was behind the front wheel
I just have a single tank and I installed it as low to the frame as I could, no problems since I’ve done that, thanks Mike
Old school with the wire nuts
Thanks Bobby, Mike
Is it compulsory to install a fuel pressure gauge?
hi Leafy, I would say no, I just do it for my own satisfaction, I gives me a warning when Is I lose preasure, thanks
mike haduck thank you
Can you please give me more info on how to power it up I'm trying to do the same to mine

Just wire it to your fuel relay. Safe and easy only one wire
