The Penn State wrestling stand outs have an open door to MMA via ATT in their backyard. Not to mention, Bo Nickal is an excellent mentor for these athletes and can help shed light on what that might look like. In 3 - 5 years, we may have multiple Penn State wrestling alums wearing UFC belts. It's possible.. especially with guys like Nickal, Cassar, and now Starocci.

Uncle Chael, first of all thanks for the pic this weekend with my wife and I. Second of all I’m shocked you didn’t even mention Gilman. Returning Olympic bronze and world champion will also be either at the trials or in the finals. I think Gilman is for sure the man Lee, Vito and Fix are all gunning for. Ever since Gilman got to NLWC he’s been a different animal! Thanks for continuing to do videos on our sport!

He's from my hometown Erie PA. He joins an elite group such as Nate Carr and Brian Baumgartner as great wrestlers from this area, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some off the top of my head
Nate’s brother Jimmy Carr was the youngest American Olympic wrestler of all time. Another Carr was Fletcher Carr who won two National championships in college. Nate’s son is David Carr who wrestles at ISU right now. Paniro Johnson is a freshman who just made the tournament and did well, also ISU. Good possibility he gets a championship in the future. There’s a really long list of D1 wrestlers from Erie

Why wouldn't Arujau just bump up to 143 # (65 kg)? As a young man it would be much easier to let his body grow and put on muscle than to cut even more weight. I don't know what weight Arujau walks around at now, but I have to imagine the 137# freestyle weight and the 143# Olympic weight would be comfortable homes for him.

Idk at 74kg he might not even make a World or Olympic team. However, in MMA he'll dominate for sure.

He graduated from Holliaysburg PA 10 minutes from my house,my fresh an year in highschool he invited a bunch of top local wrestlers to do a personal camp with him in Grundy WV and I just happened to be one of them. You're right , super humble and just a freak athlete, and by just looking at him you would never know it.

I've heard luke thomas talk about how he reached out to the ncaa about covering the tournament and they said they're fine with it being covered by basically local outlets that could one of it bigger problems
Vito is a big kid I dunno how he makes 133lbs he looked way bigger than RBY. Looked like Vito has a size 13 foot. I dunno how the hell he makes 121 during freestyle season.

Do not get me wrong on what I am about to say.. Starocci is an amazing wrestler, and at the end of his final year next year (assuming he doesn’t take his 5th year and assuming he comes back for his 4th) he will go down as one of the best to ever do it. He will be the 6th ever 4x champ with teammate Brooks being the 7th a weight above him.
Starocci is not undefeated in his NCAA career however as Chael said. He is 61-2.
Starocci is also delusional. He thinks he can win the olympics right now, he didn’t even win the Under 23 championships this past year as he took a bronze. How in the world will he beat Kyle Dake who is arguably in his prime, to even make the team. I honestly don’t think he will finish any higher than 4th at the olympic trials, behind Dake, Burroughs,
and Nolf. As far as his MMA comments, just as Mike Tyson once said…”everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.”

He should have started mma at age 10 instead of 20.
He can move to Thailand for two years, go down and train with all the guys from AKA for 2 to 3 years. He could be champion by the time he is 30. You would be amazed at what people can accomplish in 5 or 10 years. Most Americans put their boys and wrestling young to keep them out of trouble. But ten years ago most American parents didn't want to take a kid to an MMA gym. The future is bright ya never know what can happen.
And he's coming at the end of the road for wrestling in MMA. Its not as effective, people learning to stuff the takedowns

I love when a great wrestler tries MMA but I get tired of hearing a lot of talk or a grappler entertaining/saying they might only to not do it. If you're a great grappler and want to stick to that, great, but the talk is bs. Bo Nikal went like 20 mins with Gordon Ryan in grappling and he's fighting right now in the UFC. I also never heard a bunch of what if mma chatter with him, he just did it.

wrestling styles are separated by years of progression in wrestling as a sport. dan gable would prolly have a much more defined and clean wrestling style but the chain wrestling and sheer amount of moves yianni knows would be overwhelming let alone completely foreign.

No. Wrestlers put their tow on the line countless amounts of time. Push themselves 100% for 3 periods. Already great weight cutters dominant positioning. Pick up a stand up game and they are a force to be reckoned with.
