get a large space station into SUCH a low orbit around a planet or moon where if the space station is oriented in the wrong way it will crash into the planet at least. and then have bill jump over it when it comes by.
KSP of course only uses a simplified gravity system where celestial bodies are on rails around the celestial body above them in the hierarchy, and vessels are only affected by one celestial body according to SOI (sphere of influence). In reality, every celestial body affects each other and any vessel. This "n-body problem" is computationally hard and long term unpredictable (search for "ternary star system" e.g.), which is why KSP uses the simple model. However, in the n-body approach, there exist many more possibilities to optimize dV at the expense of travel time.[1] [1] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interplanetary_Transport_Network
actually, it would be more of a bunch of 1/24A battery stacked on top of each other, an A battery is 1.1540132507874443358314326056262 times thicker than an AA battery, then i multiplied the thickness of 17mm of an A battery until it reached roughly 1.25 meters, and by roughly i mean the closest you can get before going over, that is 1249.605 mm, counted the number of multipications and the resulting number was 24, so a 1/24A battery it is
Love the way you talk about lack having evidence and finding the truth but also take in to account that you have to be true to yourself before discounting others for the same reasons, I like your craft to, you've gained a new sub!
The voice over was great, you have a great commentary going. I'd never thought about making my Kerbol orbital period to match Kerbins to come back and aero-brake for a second time!
I think "prepare to involuntarily clench several times" is my new favorite turn of phrase. Not only are you a great KSP engineer, you're a brilliant wordsmith and thoughtful commentator. Well done.
Aviator James True dat, but their absolutely ridiculous fuel efficiency makes up for it. It’s possible to take a single tank from LKO to Eeloo with no assists (Though you’re gonna be waiting for a couple hours)
Oh wow, this has to be one of the most impressive stuff I've seen in KSP (like most of your other stuff too) and really accurate point about alternative facts, you have a well deserved like!
My god you have made such a good point about politics and hypocrisy in this video. If only everyone in America could here it, I think we all would be a little smarter and nicer.
"if only everyone in america".. Yeah.. Only the human beings specifically residing in america are opinionated political hypocritical idiots.. It seemed the main part of your moral was "no matter what point you choose to put forward, always double-check it yourself, because no matter how right you think you are, there's always a chance you might still be wrong." I created a similar moral for myself to follow, back when I was 14. "Never assume, make educated guesses"
Brad, I think that at some point when you've exhausted all the stock planets you should get the outer planets mod, saying the KSC discovered more planets, and try your hand at going to them. I'm certain you can do it knowing how good your oversized SSTO here already is.
You must be running out of ideas for videos with everything you've done - perhaps some sightseeing on Kerbin is in order, it seems like Kerbin is the planet you've spent the least time on!
I love your Odyssey By Bill series. The development and story bits especially never fail to make me laugh. Not to mention the amazing crafts you come up with!
btw, keep it up with the voice overs. I'm very new here (found you a couple hours ago looking for an ssto tutorial) and you've already helped me. Definitely a sub here
The second part of this video convinced me to subscribe. This started out as an interesting KSP video and evolved into some real life truth that spoke to my concerned intellectual side. I appreciate your insight and wish more people could see this point of view. Thanks Bradley. I look forward to watching your previously uploaded, as well as future content.
I dont think anyone (mostly) thinks the world is flat. I have heard other things about how space flight is impossible that sound a lot more put together (radiation belt, how physics dont work like that, exc) and i do think people believe that, even if they are just a wrong. Humanity has never collectively thought the world was flat. We could see the shape of the moon and other bodies, the shadow of the earth on the moon, and how the botom of objects at sea was obscured by the curvature, to tell us its shape. We may have thought it was the center of the solar system, and even that it was much smaller, but ever since people wondered what shape the planet was, we have known it was a sphere. The flat earth thing comes from an old fantasy novel and has been taken by some people as an actual belief. Sadly those "some people" were cultists that formed Zetetic Societies in the 1800s and published books with flawed experiments cited as proof. More people believe in a flat earth today than they did in ancient egypt or rome but most people are just trolls. The claims of vaccines giving you autism, global warming being false, and the worldwide belief in magic is the real problems that do cause real damage. The biggest problem is these beliefs only exist still because people want them to. They dont want to be wrong or to think about things in diferent ways. You cant show them evidence or ask for it because facts and evidence are irrelevant to them. The entire foundation for these things has nothing to do with faith and belief, it has to do with not believing anything else.
I actually really enjoy these voice over. A regular video probably requires more editing and work but I find it a way more interesting to have Such a detailed explaination of your mission. that's why my favorite video is your Grand Tour² video btw
Great video, I'm new to your channel so wanted to say, this was informative for KSPand had a sincere and concise speech on scientific truth. More content like this I hope sir, good day.
I've always theorized such a craft to be possible! I uh.. I just don't have the patience for the maths required xD! Seriously cool craft, and I liked your voice over.
Oh don't worry, I'm well aware of the common use. It's just incorrect and I highly dislike seeing people use it in such a way, especially in a largely scientific community such as this. It's almost akin to using the imperial system when NASA agreed to use the metric system. *cough cough Lockheed Martin*
According to my dictionary, its an accurate use of the word. Either way, I knew what he meant. Agreed that the imperial system needs to die. P.S. Also agreed that the difference in how science uses the word theory causes a lot of problems.
Loved it man, you deffo have to do more of these voiced vids occasionally, maybe a montage of the manoeuvring in a Odyssea vid with the voiceover explaining the whys and wherefores for that mission, not a full length vid, just the 5 mins highlights of the technical stuff for those of us that appreciate that as much as the editorial storyline :)

You are one of the greatest youtubers i've ever watched. You create content that thousands love, and you aren't some soft bullshit guy. Please continue what you are doing.
And even though I've played KSP for many years, I learn some lovely orbital mechanics vocabulary from you, such as:In celestial mechanics, an orbital resonance occurs when two orbiting bodies exert a regular, periodic gravitational influence on each other, usually because their orbital periods are related by a ratio of two small integers.
I wish I had time to give everyone a proper response, but please know that I read most of my comments and seeing this kind of feedback is part of what makes producing these videos worthwhile.
I just discovered your channel, and I'm glad I did. I like the mix of talking about KSP and politics, and in the universe you've built, KSP politics. Aside from the commentary, this craft and general mission profile is just so silly. Some might even consider it fake news.

I’d love to see a mod which takes degradation into account. Considering this particular mission took decades, it’d be neat to throw other challenges into the mix, such as parts breaking down, and 20 year old fuel not being as efficient.
YEY! Comments :) Thank you, I prefer these over the music ones because I usually watch these while playing games, and then the comments makes me actually watch at the right times. Except the Odysseys, those I really watch all the way through. I know it several months old :)
i've seen this on almost every SSTO design that features rapiers: why do people put a little inverted nosecone on the end of the rapier? does it actually improve aerodynamics, or does it just look cool?
nifty! Does it reduce thrust at all? i would've thought that sticking something on the end of an engine would drop the total amount of thrust it could produce. Or does KSP not model that/model it so well that the thrust actually comes from the four nozzles rather than the centre of the engine?

Bill went to eelo, realized he forgot his flashlight, so headed back to grab it then came back to eelo to carry out his mission.

Hey brad, remember that one mission where you went off-planet for over a century?
...yeah. That was fun.
Bob Kerman may not be a family guy, but he also forgot to mention he got 100yrs of 24hr pay, so he made a killing on triple OT.
With a couple hundred hours under my belt, I thought my SSTO to minus and back was impressive. You went to Eeloo and back, twice. Well done, sir.
Better than me. I've clocked over 2400 hours since 0.23.5 and I'm only starting to get a grasp on SSTOs!
It's only a good craft when you can do it with Tac life support :P
Alex Siemers I HAVEN'T EVEN GONE TO THE MUN!... damn I suck at this game😥
Pyrax anything is possible with ion drives if ur craft is small enough srsly
I've orbited the Mun before but i've never went to other planets in the Kerbol System.
"We have extra Delta-V left, so let's take the most efficient ascent profile possible at the cost of being extraordinarily unsafe"
