Amazing video! We're getting 4 llamas in 2 weeks, they're pretty tame but I'm the one that needs lessons in handling. This video has made me feel more confident and more prepared for our new arrivals!
Dont be upset if your llama jerks around, they constantly wants to watch their territory❤ How he jerked away early the man just went back and relayed the lesson. Then need to be patient enough to put the halter on but dont expect them to want to be still and only standing next to you they want to watch their herd and look out for predators. Wonderful video❤
Thank you so much! Our child is in the military and we are in charge of her llamas/alpacas, you make this look very easy! But I think I have allot of work to do 😊
The training showed in this video is very similar to training methods for horses. Very easy to cross over knowledge and training methods. In my heard, once the head is controlled (arm around the neck), their resistance drops off, they become compliant and docile. This is a tremendous help in administering medication. Animal whisper note: They can pick up on your stresses and emotions. If you are calm, they will be calm. Observe, learn and practice their language of various subtle hums and clucks along with body positioning, different moves with neck rubs and will not see you as a threat and will build trust. Generally they don't like the tops of the head touched or ears rubbed (like a dog) and they will not see you as a threat. As the trust and handling Grossman, many like to touch noses, breathing your breath. They are just amazing animals.
Be sure not to have a loop in the rope when holding or leading. Not sure strength of a Llama, but have heard stories of horses taking off and rip fingers off the handler. I train horses for a living and it's a pet peeve of mine to see anyone hold lead with a loop or two in it. Have a request to train a Llama, so am doing some research and came across this video. Definitely a lot of similarities in training technique.
I think I watched your Video at least 10 times. I totally appreciate the simplicity and results you obtain. I would be really curious to see how this step-by-step method works with a reluctant animal, or young one. if you have any Video, please give us the link :) Feeling a lot more confident for the venue of the lamas in a few days! thank you
Thanks for the simple and clear basics. I was given a family of llamas, and am preparing to attempt approaching and haltering them, so this was some great information. Much appreciated. Question though: That head-twisting-thing that the llama was doing... Is that a sign of frustration? or just playfulness? or restlessness? ... still not yet familiar with the camelid body language yet.
What a beautiful, majestic, animal !!!

Very interesting video! And I don't even own a llama.
What a gorgeous animal........beautiful!
I have worked with goats, cows and horses, cats and dogs. This is fairly similar. Develop trust. Don't trick them.

I love how he says alpacer its so endearing.😄
So beautiful, thank you!

The Alpaca seems less nervous and better at leading than the Llama.
Thank you! Nice animals.

Very informative, thank you!

Where do you acquire your halters from?

Альпака красатуля здесь моя хорошая.
Thank you!
Красивая ламочка..
Thank you so much. My alpaca has a sore eye, so I need to halter him to check and clean his eye.
Why does he sound like Peter Griffin from Family Guy? 😆
thank you
I help to look after llamas but finding it hard to get the lead on them.
What kind of halter is on the Alpaca?
Which type of llama is it ?
It isn't wolly,classic,silky ...
Maybe medium wool ?
great !!!

My alpaca almost hurt me while going through an obstical course at a show.
Humans also anticipate the halter and put our noses in en mass.
anyone who tries to tell me this isn't Willem Dafoe is a liar
don't do that music
