I don't know if this is a legit subject. But could you guys make a video on why you look good in the mirror but tend to look worse in pictures. I can't be the only one who notices that lol
In the youtube video titled "Dr. Jim's Chemistry Magic Show", Dr. Jim says it is because the silver backing on mirrors reflects more light from the red end of the spectrum than the blue, making your skin look more pinkish and healthy than it really is. He also claims this is demand driven since a hypothetical buyer would prefer to buy the mirror they look better in. Sorry I don't know where this is in the video or even what part, but there you go.
***** Haa. You're as bad at reading between the lines as I am. As far as I know the lasers burn away pigmentation so I think they make the eyes blue, but I'm not sure. If nothing else I'm sure we'll see cosmetic surgery for eyecolours pop up soon enough. Personally, I rather like brown eyes. Brown and green's my favourites, so naturally I was born in Scandinavia where most people (including myself) have blue eyes.
I've hazel greenish eyes, and used to wear dark circles on the daily basis (because it's rare from where I come from, any rarity would attract people attention, I hate an exposure to any human attention). About eyes color, The temperature of our environments would affect much on them, the hotter it's, the darker our eyes would be. In the next decade when our earths hotter, black eyes would be the most normal eyes that ever a person had. In the next 100 years, As a species we would back to our origin form, darker hair, darker skin, darker eyes. Such a cyclic life.
This is so weird.. I was born with both blue eyes. And without warning, one day when I was two i woke up and my left eye was brown.. A few years ago my right eye changed to green. It's just weird because no one in my family has anything like this
I was also born with blue eyes as well. A couple years ago they changed to green though. But as soon as I turned 10, one eye turned hazel and the other turned into this really light blue-green grey colour. It's called heterochromia. But it's not just eyes that make people have it. If someone has a lock of hair that's a different colour of the rest (naturally, not artificial) its also heterochromia.
Virtually every Caucasian person is born with blue eyes, that change to their 'adult' colour at about 2. Now having two different eye colours is rare, but not unheard if.
Can relate ...... Today i have yellow eyes, yesterday it miraculously was green, and at december it was blue, last year's june was red and tommorow is purple.amazing, *rOiGhT* ?
Dan Balkwill everyone is actually born with blue eyes, but for most they change quickly or slowly later in life. And for most their eye color will change before they can even open their eyes. And saying that only Caucasians have blue eyes seems ignorant because they aren’t very rare anyway and they can be found in all continents.
Good video, he is a good presenter, breaking down each piece of knowledge bit by bit. However, he didn't bring up lipochrome, which is partially responsible for the existence of amber, hazel, and green eyes.
I have hazel eyes, they’re mostly green, with brown near the center and a dark green circle around the iris. I’m not really sure if my eyes are actually hazel, or if they’re green. I’ve never really gotten a concrete answer.
Thanks for completely ignoring hazel eyes, dude. Did you know that the majority of Americans that think they have green eyes actually have hazel eyes, and that hazel eyes can change colors by expanding and contracting the cells with different amounts of melanin? This means that a very large portion of humanity has eyes that can shift colors on a whim, but don't know it.
genetics. It happened that our hair turned out a certain way. In some places, even, there have been mutations to those genes which affect hair color that have been significant enough to change it. IE: red heads, blondes. If we had instead evolved from say birds, our hair could have had multiple pigments. But, by chance, we didn't.
SangoProductions21 Yes, I know that, but why? Other primates don't have blue or green eyes, and definitely don't come in blond, so why we don't have other colors?
Vector Wolf Citing wikipedia, Unlike brown eyes, blue eyes have low concentrations of melanin in the stroma of the iris, which lies in front of the dark epithelium. Longer wavelengths of light tend to be absorbed by the dark underlying epithelium, while shorter wavelengths are reflected and undergo Rayleigh scattering in the turbid medium of the stroma. This is the same frequency-dependence of scattering that accounts for the blue appearance of the sky. Fun read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_color
I thought we have different colours for climate. Blue and green originally in Northern Europe and brown in Southern Europe and continent Africa. Then Asian eye type is because of the winds and mountains. Then through centuries of migration, they all merged together. Hmm
Mine are blue-green-grey. They don't change they're just a confusing color. My dad, my brother and two of my kids have the same color eyes. I am a sucker for brown eyes, though. I like my men with dark brown eyes and it's a real good thing none of my kids have them or I'd be in trouble!
So some people have one eye blue and the other purple. I have a yellow ring in my eyes... it looks cool but what does that indicate? If melanosomes or the amount of melanosomes indicate that your eyes will be darker or lighter. Is another factor making abnormal eye color (like purple and yellow)? Have i lost everyone? lol or have i simply misunderstood the message here.
My eyes are green but go more brown when it's sunny- as a red head it's the only part of me which actually tans! Lol My dad is one of 6 kids- all those with blue eyes have poor vision and all those with brown have been fine.
My dad used to have greenish eyes, but slowly they have faded to a very light blue. He has type 2 diabetes, and has done primarily labor intensive jobs his whole life, I wonder if his diabetes had something to do with it.
My eyes have hazel around my pupil, white around the hazel, Blue around the white and black around the blue but it's kind of hard to point Out the different colors out in my eyes
I have central Heterochromia; my eyes have two colors, gold or yellow surrounding the pupils and greenish blue farther from the pupils. How does two colors within a single iris work?
I was born on the ninth of December and I have blue eyes. I believe your theory tends to be incorrect. I live in New York. Not whatever he said earlier.
I've personally noticed (not scientifically, just observationally) that people with blue eyes tend to have more recessed eyes, while people with brown eyes do not. From this observation, I speculate that blue eyes are more sensitive to light which is what has caused them to have more recessed eyes.
Luna Woren In my own family this observation is pretty pronounced, there's however a clear lineage of blue eyed people going back consecutive generations. If both your parents have brown eyes I suspect your blue ones came from some different gene,
blue being the most energetic color, this doesn't make much sense. If anything, blue eyes reflection of blue light would mean their eyes are LESS sensitive.
Ha! You got me, Adrian . I heard that little pause, too. Also, c'mon, BrainStuff - HowStuffWorks! You don't have to pay me in cash -- I'll gladly accept BrainBucks (if that's a thing).
I have kinda browny reddish eyes people always say that I m demon well I m used to that from by brith and with my pale skin they the say I m THE ANGEL OF HELL that doesn't fair ! I need to change my eye color
I am the only child of six without brown eyes. Mine are green. My mother has green eyes, but one has a brown STRIPE! A few millimetres wide, right from the whites to the inside.
ngzbblax My mother and sister also have green eyes. I am not rich, i am more middle class. Also i don't think that its 1% because we also have people with brown eyes and grey eyes so i think the 99% blue eyes isn't completely accurate. Most people i know don't have blue eyes.
I don't know if this is a legit subject. But could you guys make a video on why you look good in the mirror but tend to look worse in pictures. I can't be the only one who notices that lol
Or if it's a quick answer maybe just a reply. Either is fine with me.
In the youtube video titled "Dr. Jim's Chemistry Magic Show", Dr. Jim says it is because the silver backing on mirrors reflects more light from the red end of the spectrum than the blue, making your skin look more pinkish and healthy than it really is. That's an interesting hypothesis Joe. We'll still add it to our list of future topics to cover though Sean!
Thanks! :)
Get a better camera, and be in better lighting.
I've got boring brown eyes but let's talk about these lasers, can they make eyes red?
Strain and excessive drinking can cause them to turn red.
Oh, you mean the iris?
Dojan5 Strain and appropriate amounts of drinking cause the sclera to appear pink, I was referring to bright red irises.
***** Haa. You're as bad at reading between the lines as I am.

Dojan5 yeah I just found their website and they only make them blueish but they can leave spots and rings of brown.
The melanin that makes it brown is very beneficial to your eyes overall. #notboring

This is the same as my sister
The animation used to show the iris dilating actually showed the iris contracting and the pupil dilating.
Good video, he is a good presenter, breaking down each piece of knowledge bit by bit. However, he didn't bring up lipochrome, which is partially responsible for the existence of amber, hazel, and green eyes.
Im proud of my lipochromes. grey hazel here.
I have hazel eyes, they’re mostly green, with brown near the center and a dark green circle around the iris. I’m not really sure if my eyes are actually hazel, or if they’re green. I’ve never really gotten a concrete answer.
Yay green eye people unite!

My eyes are hazel, but based on what I'm wearing they change colors:) they of course always have a bit of hazel, but its cool!

The end bit is both a really smart pickup line and something a stalker would say just before the cops arrive. Good job, Ben! lol
Weirdly, Ben has used that bit while flirting with a cop...
Why humans can have blue eyes, but not blue hair, and yellow hair, but not yellow eyes?
different pigments.

I have hazel eyes, so does that mean that the melanosomes are weirdly organized to show both green and brown?
"Why Are Your Eyes That Color?"
New video where Ben Bowlin from Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know flirts with you…
Mine are green 💚💚
+Blue Boss when I was little they were grey
I have hazel eyes
when i was kid my eye colors was brown, now is green and little brown
Every time Ben is in a video, I seriously think he's purposely trying to freak us out with some weird conspiracy theory...
True fact: No one has ever seen Ben enter or exit a room.
BrainStuff - HowStuffWorks haha lol love it :)

I thought we have different colours for climate. Blue and green originally in Northern Europe and brown in Southern Europe and continent Africa. Then Asian eye type is because of the winds and mountains. Then through centuries of migration, they all merged together. Hmm
Mine are hazel, so golden around the pupils with blue to green.

Viper Unknown maghadss?? Reallly?😂😂...i want that tooo...
Can i have some?😂 just kidding lol😂
My eyes sometimes turns from light brown to light green. And no, it's not lightning or whatever. I have tested it.
It's not 'lightning'? I should hope not! LOL
3:17 what color are his eyes?

It would be cool if eye color would change with your mood like mood rings.
My dad used to have greenish eyes, but slowly they have faded to a very light blue. He has type 2 diabetes, and has done primarily labor intensive jobs his whole life, I wonder if his diabetes had something to do with it.

For some odd reason I'm the only one in my family who has blue eyes. Ik I'm related by blood b/c share other family traits and disorders.
uh oh
Yeah, so do I. My father, mother and 4 siblings have brown eyes, while I have grey/blue ones. Don't get me wrong, I love the color of my eyes. :)
Joey Lopez maybe you have a different dad 🤦🏻♀️
*everyone watching this video starts blinking manually*
I eyes go like this:
spring: Teal
summer: Green
autumn: Blue
winter: Grey
I was born in the middle of autumn so I guess I could just say I am blue.
I was born on the ninth of December and I have blue eyes. I believe your theory tends to be incorrect. I live in New York. Not whatever he said earlier.
The Very Last yup I live in Singapore where there is no winter and Autumn n I HAVE brown eyes
No coz i was born in summer and i have blue eyes😂
I've personally noticed (not scientifically, just observationally) that people with blue eyes tend to have more recessed eyes, while people with brown eyes do not. From this observation, I speculate that blue eyes are more sensitive to light which is what has caused them to have more recessed eyes.
Interesting hypothesis. Due to my entire family having brown eyes while I have grey/blues ones, I think I will check this out.

2:53 Admit it Ben, you had to force yourself a bit not to say "...where it gets crazy." Legendary line.
Ben owns the rights to the phrase "Here's where it gets crazy," so we would have had to pay him an extra fee if he said it on BrainStuff.
Ha! You got me, Adrian . I heard that little pause, too. Also, c'mon, BrainStuff - HowStuffWorks! You don't have to pay me in cash -- I'll gladly accept BrainBucks (if that's a thing).
An iris is a sphincter. Thought it was important to point out.
I have typical Egyptian eyes, the color is so dark (brown) that it can be confused with black. I wouldn't have it any other way to be honest.
I'm pretty sure this dude loves me and my eye color for some reason. I'm scared somebody help
When I was a baby I had blue eyes but when I grew up they turned green
the part about babies changing eye colour as they grow up is true. my eyes were blue when I was born, then they turned gray, and now they're brown.

Lucky! I have hazel and everyone calls them brown and I don't like brown and PHANDOMM
I think the iris pattern is half determined after birth and half before.
Haha, this was great! Been really knows how to work the audience
Thanks for watching!
I hate it when people claim their eyes change throughout the day. like no that shit doesnt happen that fast
