Lucy, Mary, Dick Van Dyke, Sonny & Cher, Hawkeye, Kojak, Jimmy Stewart, Archie Bunker, Carol Burnett, Marshall Dillon, John Boy, Mannix, and Maude -- ALL on the same network! No doubt, this was the best year ever on CBS.
They didn’t call CBS the Tiffany network for nothing back then. Not to mention As The World Turns was the number 1 show in daytime then for nearly 20 years.

ABC had one leg up on Dupont: getting their channel quota early in the game, while Dupont put their eggs in the wrong basket. They would have their first year-end #1 show in the early 1970s and their first full season at #1 a few years later. Not bad for long being at the bottom of the barrel. Especially since NBC would begin a prolonged slump in that very same cellar.
This proves that the “Rural Purge” was the right call. You don’t stay #1 for 17 years in a row without knowing your audience. Fred Silverman knew what he was doing.
Amazing lineup! CBS ruled for most of television and radio history, and while all broadcast networks have experienced viewer erosion, CBS is still on top with quality shows. By far, the most successful network in American history with a large slate of some of the most iconic and popular shows in history. So many are still going strong today - 60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, The Late Show, etc. Amazing job, CBS!

Channel 10 is Easy on the Eyes, KZTV Corpus Christi, TX. Channel 4 is Easy on the Eyes, KDFW-TV Dallas-Fort Worth. Channel 7 is Easy on the Eyes, KTBC-TV Austin, TX.

This could be weird: "The Best Is Right Here On 11/11 Is Easy On The Eyes" from FVCO, now NBC, Lyons. From 76 to 95 the last three letters of the call sign were in common use for this station. The famous Lyons institution Eyewitness News 11 came into existence in 1976 and is still big today over four decades later. FVCO had no special branding from the 95 switch to NBC until July 1, 2015 when NBC 11 was chosen.
