  • Koheru catch and cook sashimi. In this mission I go hunting for Yellowtail Kingfish in New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf. With great weather conditions, I head out on a solo mission at first light. I encounter a good school of Yellowtail Kingfish and take some Koheru home and show you how I turn it into some delicious sashimi!

Imagine a world where a hunter has to (somewhat) justify his actions on his own boat due to the knowledge that some form softkok will undoubtedly write some nonsense comment about safety when the only food they eat is probably from a packet or a restaurant -- Keep up the great work mate!

Hey Ollie, that sucks when you miss out on a good fish because of the safety being on. That's happened to me a couple of times with different guns, now both of those guns no longer have a safety mechanism ;-) Problem with your float line is that it wraps too easily - with a good float line you wont get those tangles. I made my own float line 20+ years ago by pulling the rope through some clear pvc tube and sealed it with a stainless steel plug each end. I used a vacuum cleaner, fishing line and some cotton wool to pull the rope through. It floats and never tangles. Been using it ever since and only needed to repair it once when a shark stole some fish off my float.

Mean ollie. Hey I just brought me my first boat and yea you guessed it. It's an inflatable 4.5metres with a 15hp. And I'll tell you now. I've been diving on all these allimium boats and tell you by far my boats the easiest to get in and out off. I've never caught a kingi on a rod or speargun but I want to catch my first on a speargun.. I need to get me a line from my gun to my boy. Because i heard if you try hold the kingi it will just take your gun with it and you will loose ur gear...lol anyways I'll keep in touch. Happy diving 💪😎

I’m not sure there is a species you could describe as “Southern” that would be any different to what you can get up north. Considering species we can typically get on a speargun then I go for Tarakihi and Gurnard. Would like to try the humble old Leatherjacket too sometime.

I was thinking about getting a viking 440 after your successes with one but notice lately you've been out more on the inflatable. What are your thoughts on one versus the other? Couple of top pros and cons of each would be massively appreciated!

Hey mate cheers. Its a great kayak. Just been doing some missions for kingies and at this time of year mostly out further etc. Just did a mission last week on the kayak vid will be up this week, and planning to head out on it again. Obviously with boat you can cover more ground quicker and get to more offshore islands. The kayak is great though, able to launch basically anywhere, doubles as float so can tow behind you and cover being stretches of coast without the need to double back and then move the boat etc both are awesome. Generally all you need is a kayak man. The 440 is epic, so much storage basically setup to dive straight out the factory
