    Brotha ! as a person who has been spiraling from depression after loosing my childhood dog before Christmas. Ever since I’ve just been house rotting and my Air 3 has been just sitting on the shelf collecting dust. THEN I got this little pocket 3 creator combo 2 days ago. And after my first walk in the woods doing my first “Vlog” ever and I also flew the Air 3 for the first time in a while and after a bunch of smiles from that little adventure I completely understand what you mean, this little camera is truly amazing. Very well done also with the video man I wish I knew how to edit and such as you do. Very inspiring. Keep it up man and thanks for the awesome video.

      Thank you! I'm currently working through my Japan cinematic vlogs which were all shot on op3, but am writing again so hopefully something will come soon. What keeps going through mind mind is how to use the camera and its very unique language to tell stories how films like tangerine, or all about lily chou chou used digital technology and their advances at the time to add to the story and create a specific world for that film. I think the op3 has such a unique vibe!

    It was already given that you are a film director so you are able to vlog aesthetically at any point in time. But the point here is the answer to the question "how to be happy". With our skills or knowledge and expertise each of our own, what can they do when we're sad? Depressed? You answered them in this vlog as well. And yeah I love how you expressed your vulnerabilities, and taught me to appreciate every moments in life 🙏🏻✨️ I wish I can have both filming skills and wisdom 😂

    • @NoHomage
      @NoHomage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey thank you so much for this comment! Actually one of the reasons I took an extended break from filmmaking was because it got increasingly harder for me to make a film. gear. Crew. Limited windows of time. In the indie space this can be a bit of an issue, and eventually it wore me out. I was down and out for a bit. Then enter the DJI OSMO Pocket 3. It's made filming fun again for me! As a director I'd developed skills previously but what I find really fascinating is I can put some of these movements together that I'd not usually do. It's so good for freethinking flowing filmmaking, kind of like throwing paint at a wall this device with the flick of a wrist, it's set up and I'm moving through locations, filming, smiling. Thanks for letting me know how you received the vlog, because vlogging has also taught me to let go a bit and enjoy filming every single day. it's what I enjoy, its what I look forward to and I think I was in a rut until I learnt to finally let go and just film. Also I heard a saying...all directors wish they were actors...now I'm not really an actor but doing this has also allowed me to grow in that department too. I'm finally enjoying doing more on camera things :) Stay tuned, more videos coming soon and take care!

      Thank you for the comment :) it's so great! sometimes I still can't beleive the results and how much fun I've been having. On my last few films I was using the helios and other vintage lenses which I love the look of but there is something exciting about being able to get interesting movements that I had tried to get with my big zhiyun gimbal and heavy set up. It's also interesting now that im inspired writing a narrative film with this specific camera/look in mind I'm visualising framing and movements id not normally be able to see (since on indie budgets I know what it would take to achieve certain shots on limited timeframe). Liberating!!!

      @@NoHomage Yes, those jumps worked totally for me! The first jump I noticed with the switch to you in front of your editor and looking into the camera. Really great. I believe you make quite some use of L- and J-cuts to make these transitions more seamless - I love that too.
      The mood is great, the flow is great, some shots are spectacular. The opening scene in the telephone booth was brilliant ! The skyscraper rooftop in one of the previous films had some really great shots too. Those might have been even more prominent with a little less of the average shots around them.
      I probably would have graded the footage a bit more natural, particularly the sunny, bluesky outdoor scenes, but hey, that's 100% personal taste. And I can see that being there, it probably felt exactly like you've graded those scenes.

    • @NoHomage
      @NoHomage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@robinb5752 hey thanks for the detail in this comment. yeah I tend to lean into a particular kind of colour/grade. The film that got me into cinema when I was growing up was a Japanese film called All about lily Chou Chou (warning if you do watch it its very dark) and I've been chasing the feeling of that movie ever since through my eyes. Films by Wes Anderson and Noir films like old boy had a huge influence on how I see the world too so the kind of grade I go for is a mix of how it felt to see the world in the moment, and also how I'd like to reference filmmakers I admire. There was a Thai film called Citizen Dog which I saw on DVD and it was filmed on digital cameras back then and I remember thinking it was the best look ever! Now that I'm back to filming again I'm chasing these beautiful colours everywhere haha :)

I still can't believe how small the camera/sensor is and it being on a gimbal makes filming intuitive. I film flat with intention to grade and adding black bars uses the wide lens aesthetic kind of giving 2:35 feel. If you get one pls do get a snow mist filter (I always have one on) and maybe some ND's, and if you plan on using it for audio the creator combo with the mic is really handy!

    I love the pocket 3! ( I don’t own one though!) it’s one inch sensor really gives that pop! I use a Fuji for my trips and a GoPro. I wanted a camera that is easy to use and gives a bit of that extra creativity. The pocket was in the running but went for a 360 camera instead. My Fuji can do the cinematic stuff but boy..the pocket looks great!

They had a start with their indie film in 2004 (take out which premiere at slamdance) made on Mini DV on a 3k budget and all natural locations, cast and crew. Good to hear you've been doing things with a method/ideology that's unique. I really do think this way of filmmaking is so fulfilling. My settings are D-Log M 10bit for the colour profile, 4K WB Color grade using freeluts. I use a combination of them from that website and messing with contrast in premiere.

    • @NoHomage

      hey, I have the full set of them but I just manually expose and push exposure. I use a snow mist filter and manually expose each shot

      Ah ok, I’ve seen so many people do different things for exposure on the osmo, I guess whatever works best for you

      @NoHomage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@pepsimac yeah its actually a technique I used on my bigger cameras too for that kind of sharp a tad surreal dream like effect. I think my aesthetic kinda leans into it (especially with the mist filter). I grade with a combo of luts too. I used an ND much more about 15 episodes ago in my vlogging but in more recent episodes I've noticed I use the ND less. tbh the ND is super useful for filming in all those highlights but I've found this kind of manual ramping way up 1/1600, 1/2000, 1/2500, 1/3200 with 50 iso works well for my quick set up on the move style!

      @@pepsimac thanks! I actually kind of struggle to explain numerical things, but since the osmo is so quick to pick up and turn on I had it in front of me just then so picked it up and checked the numbers. My one kind of struggle has kinda been explaining what I do to get my look (I'm thinking of now taking notes in each edit of what Luts I use and settings) so I can explain things better to people. having a TH-cam has helped me verbalise this as I get quite a few questions on that part of my videos! Thanks for reaching out!

      why not tho? one of my favourite films tangerine was made on iPhone. I personally think story, heart, soul and most importantly a good performance is what makes a film. There's a cinematic language that comes about from using this kind of camera with thinking out of the box.

    • @TheLinesEnd
      @TheLinesEnd 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NoHomage they just aren’t good for that sort of thing. One thing is the lack of subject separation due to the micro sensor and fake lens specs. Makes the scene too busy to tell a good story

    • @NoHomage
      @NoHomage  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheLinesEnd yeah, but cinema is so much more vast. I love the film tangerine (iPhone) for example because of its imperfections. I'm thinking of utilising the device for its advantages. Like how the Dogma 95 films, or filipino new wave cinema, or bi gan's first feature Kaili blues were made. I come from a background using vintage lenses for my previous features (and or long takes slow cinema) but I'm seeing movements and spaces I can't usually get into with this. I'm seeing non actors open up for a genuine performance. I'm seeing locations you'd not get access to with a crew. I honestly think the footage captured if done right can be poetic and beautiful.

      @@NoHomage don’t get me wrong. I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max with a cage, handles, rgb light, variable ND, and microphone set up for when I work with social media influencers but it’s with their understanding that it won’t be “cinematic” even with the pro-res log footage since the depth of field decides that more than anything else.

      @@TheLinesEnd I get ya, on my last film I used the helios extensively but having everything in focus can also be cinematic. It can also conveys the story. Lav Diaz does this wonderfully in his films for example.
