  • We were able to get a hold of a working freezer for FREE. Problem is that it has a problem. It has a really bad spoiled food smell. We have tried several things with no success. Now we are trying a product from biocide systems. If you have any recommendations to help with the smell, please let us know. Thank you for taking the time to watch.

After battling Psoriasis for years, I discovered the power of quality food and its positive impact on my skin condition. This sparked my desire to raise my own quality food. So come along with our Family as we transition from urban living to small self sustaining family farm. Learn from both our successes and failures in hopes it may inspire others to try new things. We entered into this journey with no prior experience and hope to provide many laughs and learning experiences. We learned most of how to do what were doing from watching others and hope to be able to provide a similar learning opportunity to anyone else who may benefit from this. Thank you for coming along with us on this journey and we hope it is enjoyable for you and your family.

ZorbX also has variations for skunk odor removal for pets, and pet urine odor removal. I tried bleach, white vinegar, baking soda, coffee grinds and was about to throw my freezer away. Told my story at work that I accidentally turned off my freezer for several days. The dead corpse stench was horrible. Same thing happened to my friend and he told me that ZorbX saved his freezer. Well, ZorbX has saved mine as well.

I know it's been a long time and you've already thrown the freezer away but... I've been researching cleaning my kitchen refrigerator. The same thing happened in my freezer and left an awful smell. When you left the product in the freezer, I think it would have helped to have it plugged in because the air is cycled through the refridger and this was the suggestion. Also, hydrogen peroxide and baking soda paste applied and left outside exposed to sunlight will naturally bleach any yellow plastics to a beautiful looking sparkling white. It also helps with the smell....

Thanks for sharing the tips. Definitely good information for the future. I can see how running it and circulating it through probably would help. I never heard of the paste option. Thanks

I work in water Treatment and lm thinking that product uses hydrogen peroxide. In high concentrations it will create a vapor when exposed to air. The problem is that you probably didn't know is when you kept the lid closed after initially cleaning it and using vapor product, you're left with possible growth of anaerobic bacteria. This bacteria grows where there no oxygen. The lid probably needed to be left open for at least 5 days. You could have used some garden mesh cloth, used for keeping bugs of vegetables. I would've used some baking soda, sorta like a paste and applied. They also make peroxide cleaner that neutralize odors. O well, thats water under the bridge now.

That insulation is duct board insulation. It's way better than wall insulation. It's most likely 3 pound board without the vapor barrier. I'm a mechanical insulator and that's what we usually use on air conditioning duct and air movers. Honestly I'm surprised it's that insulation. Figured it would be a closed cell foam. That seems unsanitary considering that fuzz insulators with no moisture barrier on it. It soaks up moisture and water like a sponge

Appreciate the information, lots I didn’t know. I eventually gave up on it and the freezer has been disposed of. I was able to get the smell to diminish but not enough to make me want to continue use of it. Much learned in the process though. Appreciate your response and teaching me some new info. Take care

That’s a pretty smart idea. I didn’t think about the insulation value and how it could help in that cold weather.

I wonder if you could take the bottom apart some how to get there insulation out and replace it with new insulation like you did on the the lid. The insulation in the bottom probably absorbed the smell like the lid did. If you could do that and get it back together, it would probably be good. Sorry I'm so late in leaving a comment. I'm very behind on watching my Utube peeps and yours is one of my favorites. I'm binge watching to catch up. 🤣

We all get busy my friend, no worries at all. I do think it’s likely some of the other insulation absorbed the smell, I just need to figure out how to access it. I haven’t had time yet to re-approach it. To be continued 😂. Hope you’ve been doing well.

I had chopped and froze onions in a freezer bag but my freezer smelled horrible. I tried all my of the normal stuff but it was still bad. A Tupperware lady told me that putting a crumpled newspaper in smelly Tupperware bowl removes odors. She thought I could try it with the freezer. It actually did a great job. The newspapers smelled terrible in my trash so I guess somehow it absorbed the smell. Sounds strange but I was thrilled with the result.

I actually had to throw in the towel. I only tried the one and it dulled it but never quite got it gone for good. I had great success with the product eliminating cigarette smell from a car but not so much with the freezer. I’m wondering if some stinch was in the compressor area that I couldn’t get to. Either way I gave up. Thanks for watching and hope this response helps you.

As long as there isn't any spoiled matter that needs to be removed the best thing to do is give it time to air out. Use baking soda fridge & freezer after.

Hey there, so I actually got a freezer given to me as well, and strangely enough not only was it free but it also looks pretty much identical to the one you have here. And I also have tried about 20 different chemicals and cleaners and such to absolutely no avail... So could you tell me IF you ever did manage to get rid of the smell completely? And if so, How? Your help would be greatly appreciated here man!

Thank you for this great review. My inlaws are dealing with this same issue. Power outage tripped the freezer fuse and now the smell is rancid. We've cleaned it out and tried baking soda, bleach but to no avail. We're gonna try vinegar and lemon juice and then activated charcoal. Ill let you know.
