Shawn Powers you are my hero !! I get my Lpic-1 certification with your video lesson. even if 10 years have passed, classes remain super objective. thank you very much
I studied the first 15 chapters of LPIC 1 (part 1) and have had to drop it, because while it does give me theoretical knowledge of Linux, it doesn't actually make me much better at using / administering Linux. Therefore I've switched to RHCSA to get way more hands on experience.
There are 2 other benefits of the L+: 1 - you get to renew ALL your CompTIA certs. If you pass, the 3 year expiration resets. 2 - The L+ stackable with the A+. If you have the A+ and L+ you automatically get the "CompTIA Systems Support Specialist" (CSSS). FWIW. I'm doing the L+ FIRST but will go the LPIC-1 SECOND. And then in a perfect world I'd wrap all LPIC and move into RH. HR folks love to see a dozen ACTIVE certs.
This was really helpful! It's still a shame that they split up, tho. We could've spared a few bucks there and maybe have the incentive to use them for the lpic2 or a different Comptia cert.
It sorta always surprised me that CompTIA didn't have their own exam. There was even a time you could get THREE for one, as the OpenSUSE cert was tied in there too. (I think that was the third anyway, it's been a few years) Thanks for the kind words!
I assumed Linux+ was an entry level exam, considering when you learn it in college programs. Huge mistake, it requires previous hardware and network knowledge that isn't provided with the CompTIA materials.

I like the content (it's very similar, to be honest) -- but the testing process was HORRIBLY buggy when I took the exam. It crashed constantly, and I had to reconnect to the proctor, etc. Plus, the virtual environment you test in uses absurdly complex pathnames, and copy/paste doesn't work reliably. The material was great. The test itself was frustrating.
