I just finished reading this wonderful book. Until I saw the comments here I didn't know Mr.Carr had passed on. So sad. My belated condolences to his family, friends and fans. I hope somehow he and Masha know how touching and meaningful My Beloved Monster is. I believe these two have found each other and are running unconcerned "side by side."
Mixed breed 18 year old Mainecoone is just like his dear Mosha. These cats have so much personality. Our cat adopted us when we came visited a local shelter 17 years ago. He was a terror to other cats and people except me and my wife. This book is so well written. He and Mosha will be greatly missed.
Wow. Tears. Thank you for this segment. My cat was my best partner, too. He passed over 20 years ago, but I still miss him, and hope to see him again someday. Wishing the best for Mr. Carr.
I took The Alienist with me to Paris. I was so tired from attending art classes that all I did in Paris was stay in my room and read that book. It was absorbing and I was so glad I had the time to read so intensely. I've had cats for years. I know for a fact that animals go to heaven. When one of my felines died, I had a clear vision of her weaving in and out of the gowns of angels, tail held high, meowing for her supper. That too was a comfort. I look forward to reading about this cat.
This is a deeply moving book, made even more so with Carr's passing. His last words to Masha: "Go where I can find you [on the other side]." How can anyone read that and not be touched? Anyone who has ever loved a pet will understand. Note that two years later, Masha's bed and blanket were still next to Carr's desk.
Poor man, he looks so unhealthy and unwell. But he seemed serene. I think he was looking forward to being with Masha again. Rest in peace Caleb, you were a very special man.
I now know why I always felt a connection with Caleb Carr, his thoughts on humans; animals and life is mine exactly.Wish I could have lived at his house with him, he would have been content with that.

This news is news because it's not a crazy cat LADY
Mr. Carr looks so deeply unhealthy and unhappy.
How do you expect someone with terminal cancer to look?
Why do we need all these books when we have a Morris movie and people are fighting over a pickle book 🤦
