This film came out the same year as The Godfather. Fitting that one of the most famous movies of all time was released alongside one of the most infamous movies of all time
This is what I miss about TH-cam in this era. No stupid ads that had to be created by the uoploader. You could cuss like a Frenchman in a thunderstorm. Nothing was scripted and had no insistent jump cuts. It was all raw. Emer had the talent to be able to do all of those things and still be funny while reviewing a film straight from his own mind, guts, and feelings. Now everything is all woke and PC to the core. He was able to deliver on all aspects of film reviewing without the need of doing what i just mentioned. There are a few films that he reviewed that I didn't see eye to eye with him but at least he could tell you why he didn't like them without having to go with the "this film sux0r" We need more people like him who was willing to take the chance and could succinctly tell you why he didn't like certain films.
TH-cam was originally conceived as a platform to make your own videos and upload them for others to be enjoyed But as it is with everything else, once it becomes successful, attention is then focused on using it as a money maker and all resources are given towards that
Yes. Pink Flamingos is pure magic. You can't turn it off, and you can't look away, no matter how "bad" it gets. I call it the fascination of the abomination.
John Waters knew that his crew (which were new at acting at that time) couldn't act, so instead he deliberatly told them to overacting. And yes, Divine was a drag queen. Thre is also a pre-op male to female transexual who appears briefly and used her condition for comic effect/ Which you know, it's "Pink Flamingos." So one would expect that. And, RIP, Divine.
I find Waters is actualy a pretty talented writer with a very unique style, . .. even in THIS flick. Alot of the dialogue IS pretty funny. And though the overall narative or "storyline" may have been thin and not made too much sense, there are some pretty clever and imaginative SCENES ( which Waters is probably a better conciever of SCENES than of overall plotlines ).
I am sorry to break this to you, but I don't think I will ever cover "The Hunger Games". The reason is because around a decade ago, I watched a Japanese film called "Battle Royale", and I loved that movie. I enjoyed it so much that watching something that looks like a very watered down half assed remake would make me feel dirty. In short, I am far too biased against "The Hunger Games" from the get go that I couldn't possibly cover it and be truly fair to the movie.
You just created one of my favorites of all time of your reviews.Bravo! After a bit of a lull with disturbing and sick flicks you're back on track with this and Guinea Pig.I'm excited for your next sickening movie review!
Need to see this as well as "Female Trouble" and "Desperate Living." 70s trash makes me moist. Speaking of the Manson Family, have you seen Jim VanBebber's "The Manson Family?" It's trippy and awesome to the point of (almost) being like a Kenneth Anger film.
@Emer Prevost that reminds me, you need to check out Female Trouble too. Same cast as Pink Flamingos, but the acting improved, and more of a mokumentary
I actually found this movie at a movie stop back when that was a thing, and it is the only John Waters film I owned. I even scarred a friend of mine with this movie. I love it.
King Amoeboid I know this is an old comment, but watch Female Trouble. It’s less extreme than Pink Flamingos, but it’s more of an artistic movie. It’s still very low quality and trashy, but there’s more of a plot and point to it.
started with Serial mom and LOVED every minute of it. Went to Polyester then female trouble and all were excellent. I watched pink flamingos after LOL haahhaahh I have a weird obsession with John waters now
lol, He11sing. Your face when Surfin Bird came on. Anyone who has seen this film associates that song with that scene and they always make that same exact face. Btw. I have a request. Review the movie Fireproof and/or the movie Courageous if you haven't already. Also, Go Pack Go.
And there WAS a kind of dark morbidly satyrical and even disturbingly prophetic comentary on the sick media ( in the press conference / execution sequence ). Hell, in addition to the screenplays of his films, Waters has even writen three books ( Shock Value, Crackpot, Role Models ) and numerous magazine articles.
It can be even worse if read the book and THEN watch the movie. Inconsistencies and changes galore! At the end of the day, I DO enjoy it, though. However, I have also seen Battle Royale. I saw The Hunger Games first, but I would have to go with the general consensus in the comments that BR is the better film. Still like the former, but the latter was just a hell of a lot cooler.
Both now that ya mention it. I haven't seen anything by John Waters I personally consider any good and the only work I've seen from Divine was in Waters' films so that's as far as my opinion on him goes.
Am I missing something here? I don't remember ever questioning John Waters' credentials or whether or not this was a comedy. In fact, I remember giving this a rather positive review, even with the technical issues and the acting. I understand everything that you said, but I still feel like I missed something here. But, that could just be the lack of sleep or the lack of memory as to exactly what I said in this video. Please forgive whatever ignorance I may be displaying.
So, because it's a comedy, you aren't allowed to comment on whether or not the acting is good? You do understand that bad acting can harm the impact of jokes told in a comedy, right? After all, Jimmy Fallon's shitty acting killed many a promising SNL sketch. Don't insult people when you yourself are too stupid to make an actual point, pal.
Oh yeah I remember him Mrparka reviewed his documentary on his channel awhile back. For some reason i always get his name mixed up with that interviewer dud that's named G Ali.He wears that plastic red hat and long yellow overcoat with glasses and wears a moustache/beard.I forget his actual name though.Guess that GG Allin is a one of a kind trashy human being?
hey good sir, if you haven't seen King Kung Fu that might be one youd get some good reactions out of! great show regardless, really enjoyed puppet master month
I just watched this for the first time this afternoon so weird you watched it so recently too. I thought it was insane. not sure what ive taken from this film. Have you ever seen Happiness? i would love to see you react to that!
I am really glad you liked this film, because it's my all-time favorite. As ludicrous as it sounds, high hopes were reached and I enjoyed it. But the thing on my mind is what's worse; Goatse, or the anus-man? Plus the she-male scene scares me AND made me laugh my ass off simultaneously.
This is really supposed to be a "bad" movie, in the worst taste possible. It's good because it's so terrifically bad. If you pick apart the acting of a Troma movie, you'll never enjoy a Troma movie. The same with Pink Flamingos, if you pick apart the acting you'll never be able to enjoy it. Simultaneously, bad as the acting is, it's genuinely bad. As in they really tried hard to act the movie they were given, and it really adds to it.
Sad that you didn't understand this film its actually very funny it is a comedy made by a group of friends with no money; the film is is countless museums as a trail blazer sorry if everything cant be hollywood polished bullshit. You just didn't get it.
I agree William Cate. This movie is the equivalent to the true meaning of punk rock. It don't matter if you have money or talent or good ideas. Fact of the matter is Mr. waters made it happen and it was a stepping stone to a great yet strange career. Just as Sam Raimi did, and Frank Zappa did, and the Butthole Surfers did. Hats off to him and all who have the courage and follow through to get it done and get better and better later on. BTW....how is it I saw no mention of the best part of the movie. When Divines son dances around with his head between his legs spreads his cheeks and lip/rectum synchs opera by gaping his butthole as everyone laughs there heads off. Classic!!!!! JW RIP
Still every so often revisit Emers videos. What a character this man was ❤️ xxxx
It's rather eerie to comment on his videos when he's no longer with us
Same here. I still watch his videos regularly. Dude was truly unique and entertaining. God took him too soon from us.
This film came out the same year as The Godfather. Fitting that one of the most famous movies of all time was released alongside one of the most infamous movies of all time
Dr. Groph my favourite film (A Clockwork Orange) was disturbing in that era of Pink Flamingos and still is today.
So did fritz the cat
Djzapper128 One of my favorite animated films

@marius kristensen Yeah it's way too child friendly now.

I miss you and I hardly know you there are so many movies I'd of loved to see him react too
I love these reviews hope your having a ball up there buddy!
I heard the crap eating scene was actually real. Rumor? Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it were true though.
It was most diffently real divine really ate dog shit at the end lol. 100% real lol
Definitely real. Uncut scene!
Pink Flamingos was released on 9 mm film way back in the day. With the invention of VHS films Pink Flamingos really became a cult classic.
Rest In Peace my dude
I wonder what he would have thought of Hereditary?
@@SamuelBlack84 knowing him a little bit that I did, he would’ve either dug it but not love it as much as others or hate it.
John Waters knew that his crew (which were new at acting at that time) couldn't act, so instead he deliberatly told them to overacting. And yes, Divine was a drag queen. oh so it was done on purpose huh i never knew cool ty
The movie was made just after porn was legalized. So with all that stuff normalized, John Waters went looking for lines to cross.
I remember Divine was supposed to be on Married...with Children, playing as one of Peggy's relatives but didn't since he died at that time.
I felt like I needed some holy water sprinkled at me after I saw this movie. I actually enjoyed it the second time though lol
I watched Pink Flamingos last night, interesting movie is all I can say
This film is a masterpiece. The greatest thing I have ever watched in my life.
...
Right up there with 2001 a space odyssey. A true masterclass
This movie has serious balls. Ain’t no mountain high enough to get me to eat dog shit in public for a movie 😂

No arguments there, dude. GG Allin was one filthy SOB.
Oh My god. This is actually the funniest reaction and review where your reactions are priceless.
"The soundtrack is pretty good"
I've heard of this guy who hasn't showered in 60 years, he's looking for a girlfriend. good luck to him
That ain't happening.
who knows, maybe he'll find someone
sarah williamson What's his name?
Knowing my own lack of luck, a corpse that has been dead for 10 years would have more luck with the ladies 😂
His movies got a lot better, this one is kind of overrated but I'm a fan of his work
14:28 Female Trouble is the same way strangely enough
sarah williamson nope, not gonna
sarah williamson female trouble is a classic
My 3rd favorite film of all time after “The Rocky Horror Picture Show and “A Dirty Shame”
You just created one of my favorites of all time of your reviews.Bravo! After a bit of a lull with disturbing and sick flicks you're back on track with this and Guinea Pig.I'm excited for your next sickening movie review!
Have you reviewed Fritz the Cat?
Can you do a reaction and review of Cabin in the Woods when it comes out on DVD? I'm not sure if you already seen it or not?
Have you seen "Multiple Maniacs"? If not, that's my request. Again.
Have you seen Street Trash?
Need to see this as well as "Female Trouble" and "Desperate Living." 70s trash makes me moist.
Speaking of the Manson Family, have you seen Jim VanBebber's "The Manson Family?" It's trippy and awesome to the point of (almost) being like a Kenneth Anger film.
I saw this film on W. 8th Street as a Midnight show back in the early 80's...I found it rather entertaining myself...
Have you react Eat and Run?
did you know that John Waters thought of a sequel to this movie?
Have you seen "Cry Baby"? John Waters did it with Johnny Depp, it's not bad
I love it.
tgiacin435 Pink Flamingos is the only John Waters film I have and I do wanna watch Hairspray even though I’ve seen the remake.
King Amoeboid I know this is an old comment, but watch Female Trouble. It’s less extreme than Pink Flamingos, but it’s more of an artistic movie. It’s still very low quality and trashy, but there’s more of a plot and point to it.
Can you do a Reaction and Review to Ninja Assassin ?
have you seen grotesgue japanese snuff film?
I feel like I just watched the Pink Flamingos of movie reviews. The word “fuck” probably appears more times here than in the John Waters film.
started with Serial mom and LOVED every minute of it. Went to Polyester then female trouble and all were excellent. I watched pink flamingos after LOL haahhaahh I have a weird obsession with John waters now
Pink Flamingos got me curious.. I’ll check it out
I wasn't as impressed with Pink Flamingos as I was with the original Hairspray and Polyester.
can you review Tetsuo 2 or godzilla : Final wars?
Wanderfox LP Pretty sure he's already seen Godzilla: Final Wars given he's a fan of Godzilla. Not sure about Tetsuo 2 though
Hey Emer, do you like Surfing Bird!
Before the easily amused get here...
First.
Now that that crap is out of the way, enjoy the video.
lol, He11sing. Your face when Surfin Bird came on. Anyone who has seen this film associates that song with that scene and they always make that same exact face.
Btw. I have a request. Review the movie Fireproof and/or the movie Courageous if you haven't already.
Also, Go Pack Go.
I've got a new request for your wishlist... how about Starrbooty?
WAIT where's the reaction to the dog turd scene (the ending)??
And there WAS a kind of dark morbidly satyrical and even disturbingly prophetic comentary on the sick media ( in the press conference / execution sequence ). If only I can find this
For a really good Waters movie, I'd recommend Pecker. Friggin' hilarious!
Both now that ya mention it. I haven't seen anything by John Waters I personally consider any good and the only work I've seen from Divine was in Waters' films so that's as far as my opinion on him goes.

You should take a look at "A Dirty Shame" in the future.
@mr3urious That is ocassionally on netflix.
Actually, it's a little bit of both.
Isn't Christine Weston Chandler quite filthy?
Boy, if Hellsing doesn't HATE this movie I'll be surprised.
John Waters is incredible though, this movie is fantastic.
It didn't spark much of a reaction from me. I knew it was coming, and I had been shown the scene in the past. The shock was gone from it.
Emer Prevost good review
female trouble wasn't too bad, Divine has a male role in that one
This guy needs more viewers
Crazy
Those ton of requests were probably just me. D:
you need to see the film Female Trouble it is a cult classic not as gross as Pink Flamingos but its a dammed good film
Is this really a terrible movie for real I think it’s really bad
hey good sir, if you haven't seen King Kung Fu that might be one youd get some good reactions out of! great show regardless, really enjoyed puppet master month
I just watched this for the first time this afternoon so weird you watched it so recently too. I thought it was insane. not sure what ive taken from this film. Have you ever seen Happiness? i would love to see you react to that!
Can you please do an R&R of Black Dynamite?
Can you do an R&R on 21 Jump Street?
And by the way the lady flasher in the park with the male bits is called a she-male.
Waters or Divine?
I wanted to tell you that the chicken scene was supposed to be a crush fetish type of thing
I have to admit i have been waiting to see this one, I lost it laughing watching this movie, also did you know that movie is banned in Australia
paused at 16:23 to make a phone call.... awesome.... Love ya Emer

Hey you should do a reaction and review of the movie triangle directed by christopher smith
Not a stoner and never been considered a lowlife and I enjoy his reviews so speak for yourself dude.
unfortunately, i dont get how someone made this movie. this is horrible
This is really supposed to be a "bad" movie, in the worst taste possible. It's good because it's so terrifically bad. If you pick apart the acting of a Troma movie, you'll never enjoy a Troma movie. As in they really tried hard to act the movie they were given, and it really adds to it.
John waters made this!? That's odd, he's probably living off the royalties for hairspray by now
it's a title
his best film.
Here is a film for ya. Stalker, a russian science fiction film. Check it out or do a R&R of it
I always thought they were overacting in this movie on purpose

Sad that you didn't understand this film its actually very funny it is a comedy made by a group of friends with no money; the film is is countless museums as a trail blazer sorry if everything cant be hollywood polished bullshit. You just didn't get it.

I think you are the one who's confused. Watch the review again, he quite enjoyed the film.
Hey Elmer could you do a review of white chicks
I doubt he'll do it, though.
Gotta say I can handle gore but not this filthy mess of a movie. Great review btw.
I wonder why people keep asking you that
Watch happiness
I loved your laugh at 3:01 it was funny
