    Many thanks for the detailed review. It's worth mentioning the free update contains not only the superb flyable Spitfire MKIa but also a lot of free new features specifically to enhance the Battle of Britain (such as being able to call in a vector to target). Thanks for mentioning TrackIR - it makes looking around smooth of course, as does other good head tracking, and is very recommended. Oh I meant to mention "large formations" option is only available if you select Medium or Heavy campaign Air Activity - which of course will take more PC resources.

    I often wonder why this and Over Flanders Fields are not on Steam (or even another platform like EA/Epic)? They would probably sell a million+ each, like DCS & IL2 have. As it is, as far as I can see, very few people even now about these amazing sims, even just going by the only minor number of vid reviews, playthroughs or general media about them... 🤔

      Steam's fee is highway robbery and these games are simply not popular enough that it would be reasonable to think that they would make more money than they'd lose by the shift to a digital retailer.

      @@Steven-cf1ty they dont have to shift completely. DCS for example sells both on Steam and website. Going to Steam as well would add to the userbase (and income, no matter what Steam charges) substantially IMO.

      @@sbg911 it doesn't quite work like that. Going to a retailer like Steam or GOG means a cut of your profit is lost to the retailer. With this game, it's not that people are unwilling to buy through their store or that their store is an impediment, but that their games aren't well known. Going to a retailer alone doesn't make them more well known, which leaves them just standing to lose money from Steam poaching their website's sales. And that is all assuming that they'd be received positively if these games were popular which can't be taken for granted given how absurdly hostile to games people can be for no good reason, the steam forums and reviews for WW2 online (a free to play game) for example are vitriolic and almost no posts are about faults of the game and instead are pointless whining about graphics or rants from people who are themselves just ignorant of how to play the game. Going to Steam, besides the obvious problems, means getting Steam users to look at your work and that's a real Pandora's box.

      @@Steven-cf1ty you should let ED know all that seeing as they must be losing so much money being on Steam.

      @@sbg911 Eagle Dynamics, despite being possibly the most popular devs in the genre, still heavily incentivize players use their store instead of Steam. They clearly realize Steam isn't great but their business model and pre-existing popularity (some 20k positive steam reviews on the free core module) make it a fair business decision for them to take the hit to revenue for the potentially wider reach. Plenty of small game devs don't go to Steam because they would just not be getting any wider reach to justify the absurd cut Steam takes.

    This is a great game. I'm new to flight sims. I love IL-2 GB, but performance is so horrible I can only have a small handful of planes in each mission, I can't play the built in career mode due to performance and a fairly high percentage of Pat Wilson CG missions are unsatisfying due to AI not playing as a team.
    WOTR has hit the sweet spot. Even missions where there's no fighting are fun due to the interesting terrain, bigger flights and AI who behave in a smart manner. Love it. Well worth the 20$ to try.

    Patrick Wilson's campaign generator which is available for Rise of Flight and IL-2 doesn't have automatic kill claims. You need at least one friendly plane close by for a claim to be verified. I have Wings Over Flanders Fields 2 great sim.

    Is it true you no longer need to own a copy of Microsoft Combat Simulation 3 for this and Wings over Flanders Fields to work? Very confusing on the store page.

    There is a problem though. Since I do not have vr or TrackIR, how can I bound my view to the hat? Because the snapviews are really not helping.

    • @polovski1000
      @polovski1000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may need something like vjoy. You can also toggle the snap with scroll lock. Now you can pan around. The sim is 10 x better with Trackir or similar head tracking ( there are a few free ones facetracknoir, etc). As good as VR for situational awareness.

    Ist das wie CFS 3?

  • @ilguitaro

    Sorry, wasted my money on this, not to mention the money wasted on a useless copy of cfs3. After thoroughly going through the FAQ provided, the game won't allow you to map a trim wheel or the sliders on a CH throttle quadrant to your desired commands. In this day and age, I find that to be totally inadequate when you consider that IL2 1946; 20 years old now, allows one to map practically anything to anything without issue. I'm a serious simmer.....maybe I'll wait until these guys catch up
