- Check out my Patreon for video lessons with super in depth explanations of where this all comes from. The material I go over in my Patreon videos will get you coming up with these ideas on your own. My whole goal on Patreon is for people to break free of parroting their playing back to me. There was a time where I was also stuck in that phase. Breaking out of that gives you the freedom and capability to just PLAY. PATREON link right here.

Darrel Higham did this cover of Crazy Crazy Lovin'. The original by Johnny Carroll which can also be found here on TH-cam is a little faster but man, Darrel really knocked it out of the park with his version. I've been listening to Darrel Higham so much lately. There's a good playlist on TH-cam Music, and I really wanted to do something more his style with this guitar lesson.
Now, I didn't play his guitar solo in this. I'm still going to have to figure that out, but to fill the void in the song I wrote my own solo. I tried to put in some signature guitar moves that he usually does. Take, for example, the part towards the end that is played over the B and A chords, the fast rakes with guitar licks attached. Darrel does those all the time! He really has a unique style which is an amalgamation of all of the great players that came before him, combined with his own style. He stands out to me so much as his own guitar player. It's easy to hear a song and pick him out on guitar and know that it's him. I could identify his playing any time!
If you enjoy this and want to see more of Darrel's work check out the interview he did with fellow rockabilly guitar player and teacher Randy Richter on Randy's TH-cam channel by the same name. I'll leave a link right here.

There is some GREAT singing and playing as well as a bunch of cool stories from both of them.
Gear I used in this video is
Guild X175 Manhattan Newark St. Collection
Franz P90 pickups
Thomastik-Infeld 11 gauge round wound strings on it right now, with an unwound G string. (from a stock pile of 17 gauge strings that I have)
Fender Hot Rod DeVille 1st generation chrome plate (1990's) tube amp set on drive channel with "more drive" button not activated
Spring Reverb from amp set to 2
The Volume Box - volume control that plugs into my effects loop on amplifier
Boss DD3 digital delay pedal
plugged into front of the amp, ran through a 1 Spot
Pro CS 7 - pure isolated power (power source) on my pedal board
Dunlop Guitar Pick 0.88mm (green)
no fancy recording equipment (yet)
recorded on MotoG6 cell phone
using natural sunlight, house ceiling light, and a ring light for lighting
All audio is just being picked up from the microphone on my cell phone (primitive but it works!)
Backing track (Darrel Higham recording) is being played from my Chromebook on TH-cam through Bluetooth on a "Mega Bass v3 job site speaker that I got on clearance at Home Depot for $7.50
this setup has worked for me for years, but I will actually be making the leap to real recording equipment in the very near future. I'm looking at the Focusrite DAW and real microphones like the Shure SM57 and a speaking podcast microphone that I forget the name of. Also looking into real cameras like Kodak and Canon.
Well, I hope you like this! I had a BLAST making it!
Fantastic tute with some wonderful tips and licks-- and your joy and enthusiasm are always a pleasure!-- thanks, Jeff!! 👍💪🙏😊

He SURELY didn't have musical notes tattooed on his fingers -- did he?
Those aren't music notes, they're tiny frying pans!
