  • 2023 Journeyman JXTR using 3-inch 15V9 Diamond wheel (non-variable flute)
    Three things make this easy,
The digital readout (makes it easy to keep track of the center)
The Plated Bond wheel (removes material very fast and does not lose its shape)
The JXT has a vertical axis (so Different heights can be used to execute the grinds)

Cutter grinding is a lost art. I worked at a tool shop when I first got in the trade in 1979 that had a cutting grinding department. I used those talents the for rest of my years as a machinist. These skills blew everybodies mind later when almost nobody was doing it. The problem is the cutting tools we use when machining molds have corner radius' and a coating. So when the tool gets dull, we just grab a new one. We would rarely use an endmill, but knowing how to sharpen one goes a long way when you need a good one and there are no new ones.

This is a good comment , sounds like your tool grinding skills served you well. I wish we taught our young people how to sharpen the tools they need as a machinists while they are learning the trade. The difference between being stuck when a tool gets dull and finishing the part while your set up is a big one. You would like the New Grinder with a DRO its like Christmas.

Great video Jeff. I'm assuming I can use these same specs for a 5-10 flute collar.

I can't wait to have my first try at a 5/10 flute collar.
It took me no time to master the 4 flute center cutting (variable Pitch) endmill. Anxiously awaiting Jeff's next instructions.

HI There :) sorry for the late reply yes you can 5 probably not 10 , just make sure to position the wheel so it will do the grind, and then, if its variable use the tool rest not the indexing collar.

It gets kinda hard to support the tooth as the flute count goes up ,, if symmetrical the collar with do the trick with the JXT (hard to get the wheel min there
