    This is by far the most coolest device I've ever seen for a mag loop. Thumbs up for creativity, idea and finish. I want one!!!

    That is with out a doubt the neatest thing I have seen in hamming since 1967. W4GSM

    A great tuner.......now if they were only on the market so we could get our hands on one or two. Please let the group know how or where to at least start one. I have four loops up and working, this tuner would make life so much easier ! Great job Sir.

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Now that would be ideal for operators with little or no antenna room, very well done!!!!!

    Why can't manufacturers make something like this, rather than the dumbed down loops ? I would buy one in a heartbeat

    Nice job! I've been praying or someone to come up that would sample the rig and tune the loop along while dialing up and down the band. THAT would make someone rich and bring loops into real competition with any other antenna. 73's and thanks for the post

    Bernie I am sure many will be encouraged to try and replicate your idea. Please can we have at a minimum a list of resources you used, but better still a more detailed description of this great project. 73 Nigel M0NDE

    A HF loop is the only option for me due to space constraints. Where can we find more details about this project (schematics, etc.), if possible, many TNX 73

    Very nice Bernie, have you considered adding an encoder to avoid going back and forth to reset the switch when tuning?

    • @GM4WZG
      @GM4WZG  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes - an encoder is a good idea. It is just that it somehow seemed easier to use a switch and having it rapidly go from one end to the other kind of looks nice too !

    Very nice and many super useable ideas in the software. Do you Have some sort of encoder on the capacitor shaft to get position?

    • @GM4WZG
      @GM4WZG  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you. No, it is using a stepper motor. If you know the start position you keep track of where it is by the number of steps you ask it to take. That's why there is a switch and why at the beginning it goes around until the switch operates - a kind of guaranteed "go back to start".

    This is fantastic. When the tuner auto tunes each band automatically, do you run the risk of accidentally "stepping on" someone's transmission? This device is cool, anyway.

    • @GM4WZG
      @GM4WZG  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comments and I'm glad you liked it. I decided that using the lowest power mode for a fraction of a second was less likely to cause interference than the time honoured sending of QRL?to check if a frequency is in use which at 12 words per minute lasts even longer. Philosophically speaking there is room for more debate, in practice it isn't really a problem.

    looking at the item . what can I say that's smart gm4wzg get this into production most radios have cat control there could be some profit from this.by the way good job, ill have to stick to my mfj loop the way that works but your control box has given the loop a hole new meaning kind regards

    I would not recommend anyone subjecting their FT-817 to (dangerously) high SWR levels on a regular basis like shown in this video! Neat device, but sadly very poor design.

    • @GM4WZG
      @GM4WZG  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I appreciate the comment and it is always worth thinking carefully about how a transmitter output stage is used in relation to loading. I have considered this with the FT817 and before any transmitting is done, the rig is put into its lowest power mode automatically. This would appear to be safe and is the procedure used by many the world over to tune their 817 by means of an ATU. I'm not aware of damage being caused under these circumstances. I recommend anyone making their own unit to give similar consideration to this point and decide for themselves the safe power level to use when tuning.
