I am delighted to see myself represented here. 👌🏾 I'm an avid collector of abstract art and a black woman. I am very often the only one at a gallery showing abstract art. So I always ❤ when I discover an artist who is black and is exquisite in their passion for and depiction of abstract expressionism. Thank you. Nowness❤
One afternoon at MOMA I saw Rothko seated at a table in the garden. He was alone. I went uo to him and told him how much I loved his paintings. He smiled and thanked me. I was to shy to say anything else. Since reading about him one thing I loved above all. If he met a young artist he knew on the street or in a bar he always asked if he needed any money. Such a sweet man.
Sure, art can be subjective, but I find it difficult to believe that some of his paintings have been bought for over $2 million. I simply can not believe that the man on the street cannot reproduce something similar. I love contemporary and modern art, but just can’t engage with these paintings.
@@dbdindustries4943 I guess so, I just struggle with his work. Someone like Picasso was an exquisite craftsman before embracing cubism and surrealism. I see talent and creativity. I just feel nothing with these or any of Whitney’s artworks. I hate being so negative, but I just want to see a glimpse of skill somewhere on that canvas.
@@Mid20studio sure, nothing but luck substitutes for hard work. I sometimes see an artwork that I don’t like but can appreciate that the artist is talented and the piece can be appreciated by someone else. I struggle with this sentiment while looking at Whitneys’s work. Obviously I’m wrong as some sell for big money. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure.
Art purchasing is just money laundering for today, why do you think the Saudi prince bought Da Vinci's assistent's Salvador Mundi? Its all like stocks or crypto. Speculative and easy to move quick. Anyway I like his art it has nice colors

I kinda like the little coloured drawings better than the big ones.

I'm sorry but no. I can paint like this and much better even though I'm a beginner. So maybe create a short doc about my art as well?
yes, absolutely. Anyone can paint like Stanley Whitney - it’s simple and easy to understand. But can you paint in a way that truly expresses you?
you have a lot to learn about art
I'm sorry but no.

What you just expressed is engagement.. it’s not necessarily positive ,but it is engagement. That’s what art is about!

@@TIWNA851 talent shouldn’t exist with Art only hard work

The fact that this says “in Long Island” and no “on Long Island” is the true misrepresentation and withholding of cultural heritage.
