So glad to see you back, man. That last one, the chicken chunks... Every once and a while an MRE comes out where it's... You look at it and you think, "What, did they just... have a bunch of something they had to use up?" I'm reminded of the one from the 80s that was, if I remember right, just... three hotdogs in a bag, and a bunch of snacks. Something like that. It takes so little work to actually create something that's a "meal", and most times they manage it, but every once and a while...
Thanks, man. Some MREs are just so cohesive with every item complimenting each other. Others can feel like someone ran down a supermarket aisle with their arm out and whatever falls in the bag is what you get.

The audio and video were great in this one. You've actually inspired me to start making my own ration reviews, I haven't had any US MRE's in many years so this seems like a great time to check out what's new.

It's been a long time! I think that's what makes your videos great, is that your daughter's opinions on the MRE's. As every parent knows, kids can be the biggest critics when it comes to food.
I really enjoy that part of the video because I'm genuinely interested to hear their take on things. It sometimes has me re-evaluating my own ideas. Like coffee, for instance. We drink it, but does it really taste delicious in the traditional sense? Hmmm.
These videos always bring back memories of finding rat-f’d cases of MRE’s (ie ssome Blue Falcon ripped open all of them, just to take the good stuff 🤬🙃

The important thing is that you are back and alive (that's the most important thing). Since you disappeared, I was counting and hoping, and somewhere deep down I knew that you would come back. The bosses has a really good point. The thounge can only detect salt, sweet, sour, bitter and umami. All other taste elements are actually from the smells. Also, it's really nice to have you and the boss back. You are the reason that I also want to try different MRE:s.
Welcome back to the channel! It's amazing where kids can file away and associate different smells. I sure didn't see the gum/nanna's lotion one coming.
The audio is much better than the last video - the crinkling of the packages is much more soothing to the ears. I don't know if it's just me, but I can hear a high pitched (very low volume) whine on this audio. If you can get rid of that, you'll be golden.
Great to hear the audio is better, thanks. It was an unknown until I started editing and it was a relief to hear it worked out well. I didn't pick up the high pitched which when I was editing, but I'll listen out for it on the next one.
When mixing try to leave some extra air in the bag. I’ve found that helps to mix it when the components have extra room to move around. Then I squeeze out the extra air before putting in the FRH. At least that’s what we did when I was in the Army.
I know this is hard to hear, but how I have missed your voice friend. Personally, I hate my own voice, yet, some like?? This particular meal, I have tried,2-3 times. I enjoy it. Sauce is different, Taste wise, than normal pasta sauce in these meals. We all love different?? Most components, have barely changed. Foreign rations, still excel ours. If you get the tropical fruit mix drink powder in A U.S. meal, you may try. If in the big pack, just throw it and save your time, LOL. Smaller packs do not clump. Fat packs do! Your meal and components seem solid friend. Taste may be desired. You got cheated on the meal slightly. They usually include, more peppers and onions, compared to the ones I have reviewed? We all draw A short straw every now and then, LOL. I am glad, to hear your voice, and, seek your wisdom once again, should you allow? You have A lovely family, which no one needs to tell you friend. I sincerely hope, they love your hobby. By now, you have discovered, shipping overseas now, is, well, A gamble? Worse than ever. They even confiscate stickers ! Now bloody heck, keep our meals, if you must, but let paper materials come through? LOL. I hope you and yours , are safe and well. It was hard to tell them apart in a sea of crimson. As for the girls, I didn't even click they'd conspired to both wear Nirvana shirts (not that I'm complaining - good choices).
Oooh I'm gonna have to snag a couple of these up, looks like I can eat most of the contents. Definitely kind of strange they doubled up on the nuts and cranberries, probably would have been better if they did a jerky only component and a bigger trail mix component, that would make more sense. Open that MRE anyway you want to. Heat up how you want to. Eat it how you want to. I always put salt in my FRH. I know it might now matter but to me it good luck so who cares? You gotta eat
The Jerky mix and the Dried Cranberries can be eaten slowly later in the day or while on the move. Just put some between the side cheek and gum and chew as you go. Almost like a plug of leaf tobacco.
Neverminded the peal able seal that hot beverage bag nearly did you in as well ! Seems like they are scrimping on the mains while doubling up on the fruits and nuts . I've never bought one but I'm sure the price has gone way up . Where's the pound cake or the skittles ? The mini boss sure looks like her sister at her age , beautiful girls .
I noticed a lot more fruits and nuts and other dry snack foods in recent years. I thought it was more the “eat-on-the-go” whilst saving weight. Fewer of them have a side in the traditional sense. Fewer have coffee and/or hot sauce to cut weight and costs. Packaging has shrunk. I once read about how much packaging can really add up. Save an ounce or even half an ounce in a single 12 pack of MREs and you’ve saved 6-12 oz. Which there’s 16 oz in a pound. Take a pallet of MREs and you’ve said actual pounds. Which saves fuel and possibly space. Which saved money. Helping operations be more successful. Reduced demand for resources and personnel to supply remote areas. Reduced wear on equipment to transport food. It’s insane how something so little adds up to so much savings. Like changing 1.5 oz of peanut butter/cheese to a single oz. That was done when researchers at the Natick Laboratory found that not all of the cheese/peanut butter was being used. Some people complained because these made good foods for on the go eating. They could just tear it open and squeeze a healthy amount in their mouth while on the go. But you can’t make everyone happy.
Very interesting to hear. When I held a U.S. MRE again after all these years it felt slightly smaller, but I then again, I feel like Big Macs used to be huge and have gotten smaller. Thought it was all in my head!
Yep, that's the one. I never have a problem when I try to open from a normal position. They just give me grief with my arms out in front of the camera.
That main looks pretty good for an MRE, not sure what they were going for with the snacks though (beefing up the fibre content maybe?). You're definitely right about kids reactions to food, there's no hiding what they like and and what they hate.
Loved the main. The snacks were good, but would have been perfect if one of the three was something other than Cranberries or nuts. When you're shooting for overall calorific and nutritional values, I guess they need to add or omit whatever it takes to get near the numbers. I'm assuming they start from the entree and build on it from there. It would be fascinating to hear from someone directly involved in the creation of these. And yes, the kids unfiltered opinions surprise me sometimes!
Thanks Anthony. I missed the art gene, but somehow my Daughters are excellent little artists. In saying that, I use A.I for the graphics, but it would be funny to commission The Bosses to come up with some of their own for future vids.
When we needed him most he returned. Something all sides of politics can agree on...MRE reviews are the most relaxing content.

rations (rightly) tend to lean heavily on nuts because not much else on earth packs as much energy into a small amount of volume as nuts do.

Oooh I'm gonna have to snag a couple of these up, looks like I can eat most of the contents. Definitely kind of strange they doubled up on the nuts and cranberries, probably would have been better if they did a jerky only component and a bigger trail mix component, that would make more sense. The Jerky mix and the Dried Cranberries can be eaten slowly later in the day or while on the move. Just put some between the side cheek and gum and chew as you go. Almost like a plug of leaf tobacco.
There was definitely enough there for all day grazing.
All those nuts and berries would be excellent energy on a busy day. Pop a handful and keep going. I would save them in that ziplock coffee bag.

I've never bought one but I'm sure the price has gone way up . Where's the pound cake or the skittles ? The mini boss sure looks like her sister at her age , beautiful girls .

I noticed a lot more fruits and nuts and other dry snack foods in recent years. I thought it was more the “eat-on-the-go” whilst saving weight. Fewer of them have a side in the traditional sense. Fewer have coffee and/or hot sauce to cut weight and costs. Packaging has shrunk. I once read about how much packaging can really add up. Save an ounce or even half an ounce in a single 12 pack of MREs and you’ve saved 6-12 oz. Which there’s 16 oz in a pound. Take a pallet of MREs and you’ve said actual pounds. Which saves fuel and possibly space. Which saved money. Helping operations be more successful. Reduced demand for resources and personnel to supply remote areas. Reduced wear on equipment to transport food. It’s insane how something so little adds up to so much savings. Like changing 1.5 oz of peanut butter/cheese to a single oz. That was done when researchers at the Natick Laboratory found that not all of the cheese/peanut butter was being used. Some people complained because these made good foods for on the go eating. They could just tear it open and squeeze a healthy amount in their mouth while on the go. But you can’t make everyone happy.
Very interesting to hear. When I held a U.S. MRE again after all these years it felt slightly smaller, but I then again, I feel like Big Macs used to be huge and have gotten smaller. Thought it was all in my head!

I believe the method for the peelable seal is to dig your thumbs a bit into the seal and open it whole digging into the seal
Yep, that's the one. I never have a problem when I try to open from a normal position. They just give me grief with my arms out in front of the camera.

That main looks pretty good for an MRE, not sure what they were going for with the snacks though (beefing up the fibre content maybe?). You're definitely right about kids reactions to food, there's no hiding what they like and and what they hate.
Loved the main. The snacks were good, but would have been perfect if one of the three was something other than Cranberries or nuts. When you're shooting for overall calorific and nutritional values, I guess they need to add or omit whatever it takes to get near the numbers. I'm assuming they start from the entree and build on it from there. It would be fascinating to hear from someone directly involved in the creation of these. And yes, the kids unfiltered opinions surprise me sometimes!

Since you've been gone I've developed arthritis in my thumb joint. Those peel packages are impossible now to me. I just have to go for the scissors.
Lol! Peelable seal is a big misnomer (most of the time). But at the same time I'm impressed with their commitment to keeping water and air out.
