Ohhhh you won me over the MOMENT you showed me that peelout. Some of the animations feel a tad TOO smooth, can't say I love how the quills move and there's a bit too much squash, but still a solid look.
Whoever made this is clearly a talented animator, there are a lot of great animation principles on display here. I really love how the creator of the mod took a very unique and "cool" looking approach to the animations rather than purely adapting and reanimating the frontiers ones (that stomp is amazing), but for future updates I really hope they tone down the extent to which sonic is animated. Whenever he's idling and everything is moving independent of him it makes it feel like the different parts of his body are separate organisms and its a little uncanny. I think the concept behind it is a great idea though, to decrease how static he is. Maybe it'd feel better if less things moved and the quills moved in the same direction rather than it looking like they're jiggling? Particularly the idle animations (around the eyes) and the slow grinding ones I found noticeable. That peel-out is genuinely INCREDIBLE though. I understand, however, that the Sonic Frontiers character animator probably isn't the most amazing animator ever though so I'm sure there's compromises that the animator had to make on their full vision.
I'm trying to use every bone possible to squeaze out every bit of expression! And I have the quills moving individually to make it feel more like hair rather than quills.

His hair moving like he’s suspended in some kind of liquid is 👎🏾 and his melee being kicks only is so smooth brained: I’ve seen too many people say Sonic realistically wouldn’t even rely on fist fighting because he runs so much so his legs are his strongest but imagine applying that logic to every other speedster character.
I mean, it’s common sense tbh. I think Sonic should use his fists too, but his legs should be used in a fight as well. If not, that’s more wasted potential than Megumi.
Eh, as neat as some of the unique animations for this model are, I am NOT a fan of how "overly animated" the head is. Some have already brought up the spines/quills being a little *too* loose in how much they move/flap in the wind, but the way his nose bobs up & down all willy-nilly, along with how much his brows move too, it just ends up making Sonic look more like a hollow rubber ragdoll than an actual solid creature with bones & muscles. Yes, some squash & stretch on a cartoony character like Sonic is needed to add a bit of extra appeal to how he moves, but this is kind of overdoing it in some places, not gonna lie.
While the spine movement definitely needs some work, I feel like some of the people in these comments are acting like how Sonic fans act whenever the shade of blue on Sonic’s fur is just slightly off about it, especially that “dropped as a baby” comment.
Oh, no, I edited the normal Frontiers model to have flatter kicks, bigger cuffs, and a more expressive face, along with some new textures and some other adjustments.
I mess with the animations. But the amount of quill movement… is pretty unnecessary. They kind of doing too much with that. Like I get what they’re going for, but he’s too jiggly

Reminds me a lot of the 06 model must’ve been a massive inspiration
I actually had inspiration for the quills and main body from 06. The quill movement is ALSO inspired by the physical qualities given to it by 06.

He uses kicks for the starters, but he will do a lot more punching when you reach phantom rush!
