YES!! Head NET!! Most people forget that item... One day & night in the Southern woods or swamp during Spring/Summer will prove your need for one!! I recommend you cover the lighters with either duct or Gorilla tape... Add a slingshot (easy to master, hunt small game and ammo is literally ALL around you) a small sewing kit and some sunscreen. Other than that... Niiiiice set up.

Very nice setup. Similar to mine. But the one thing that you can't physically add to your bag is being mentally and physically prepared for a get home or bug out situation. To me, that is the most important thing. Excellent video man. 👍

Very nice bag. You have it covered pretty well. I don't know how far a way from home you could be but I could be anywhere between 7-300 miles from home. My main priority is to get home to my family as fast as possible. With that said, I carry a small set of bolt cutters because I will be looking for a bike which would get me home 5-10x faster than on foot. Thanks again for sharing.

I've been studying survival and discovered a fantastic resource at Survivor Crusher System (google it if you're interested)
I think it would be helpful to add more shelter for winter months like a good sleeping bag and an inflatable pad. I find this helps me to get a lot more sleep on overnighters which makes the chores of survival much easier
Thanks for the advise! more comfortable shelter would be great. I do have a sleeping bag, and tent that I keep in my truck, that could easily be strapped to my pack if I needed to! Keep a look out for my Vehicle preparedness/edc video that will be uploaded in the next couple weeks.

That young man is a very thought out and well organized set up. You've taken the time to prepare which is the first step. If I may say ..... It's not so much what you have, but the ability to put the tools to use. I would only recommend 1 thing ..... Train, train and train some more. Even if it's in the back yard, that may sound silly but the moment the mind breaks down all the tools in the bag mean very little. Nothing replaces time in the field. Good luck and remember your most important tool is attached to your shoulders.
great video one thing i think might be good to toss in with your change of clothing is maybe a small sewing kit

Keep the monocular in a flashlight pouch attached to the outside if its waterproof or inside the top pouch for quick access. Having to open the clam shell to get it would be a major pain. Having quick ability to see farther is really important, especially if your walking home during a WROL situation and need to be able to spot potential threats.

I would have never considered that and it is smart.
I would suggest a bolt cutters and a pry bar to break into anything also some spare fuses and small tool kit to maybe get your car running again
Good suggestions!! But the reason I don't have those things in the bag is because they would be very heavy and since this bag stays in my truck, I do have those kinds of things in my truck tool box!! I think this bag is more so something I would carry with me if I had to leave my truck behind!! I would likely grab a few extra things from the truck also if I needed!

I thought the light on the back of the pack was a great idea if your wanting to be find. my ghb pack is setup for survival for a emergency but also e&e situation. if something bad did happen I'm staying away from people and have gear for self defense. I would throw in a military poncho not just for rain but also emergency shelter. Im switching over to USB flashlights and solar panel. take care and God bless

Great bag setup. I have many of the same things. You did a great job organizing and covering the basics. I loved the eye drops and other items to help make treating yourself for bad conditions. Since you asked for some advice I do have some. Perhaps it would be good to put your blood type on the pack just in case you need help from others. Cordage would be a good thing to have and keep. One last thing is an insulated cozy for the Mtn. House. Easy to make from some bubble wrap and alluminin foil. Thanks for sharing. You really hit a home run.

Great bag! I would add a hammoc to it because it doesn't take up a lot of space at all and will make your sleeping MUCH better. Use it in conjunction with the SOL bivvy

would add dust masks & ski goggles for dusty environments, biscuits & gravy has the highest carb count, add one or two to your bag. loose the folding stove, won't boil enough water for the weight and room. find a small grill to put over a fire to boil water. I got one from second hand store and cut it down to work in a small fire. lot easier to put a cup on to boil water in a fire. a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil large enough to surround a small fire for wind break and prevent the fire form being seen. can also be shaped to focus heat from the fire more towards yourself.
Thanks for the suggestions, but I do have a dust mask in the bag. And I'll have to disagree with you on the Esbit, it doesn't weigh much at all and I have tested it to make sure it will boil enough water for the meals I have and it works great.
A bigger flat folding solar panel to charge everything. Phone, lamps etc? Very nice bag :D

Always good to have a way to make a torch or keep a glow stick in case of an EMP and no flashlights work... or keep them in a Mylar bag and pray they still work.

Awesome bag! Only got 2 suggestions/Ideas. Ideas: Get a dry bag to set your bag in the rain covers work but they don't if you get into a rain storm. Also it wont be easy but instead of creating 2 different backpacks convert your pack to be both a get home bag and a bug out bag. I drive across the state where i live and wanted a bag to get home but also the ability to survive if I couldn't get home. Thank You
Good ideas, you are right it is a good idea to try to build a bag that will work for both! I'd like to think that my get home bag could last longer than 3 days along with my regular edc and the large number of items I keep in my truck that I could add to or clip onto the bag.
**** The only thing I would suggest that I feel you are GREATLY missing is a small, light weight, "La Cross, All Hazards NOAA Weather Radio!!" Has a hand crank and solar panel for continuous electricity, an LED light, AM/FM/WB Radio. Great for weather conditions and other important information in the car, home or in the woods. A MUST for any bug out or get home bag, check out one!!!

Now add some ammo, and a FIREARM. If you have a daily carry weapon that you always have on you, add atleast 1-2 mags in the pack for it. Very important.
Mr. Dark I have a daily carry gun and extra mag that are always on me and another in the vehicle!
Atta boy. I personally always carry a full-size but if your Daily Carry is a compact or smaller frame, i would recommend putting a full size into the mix for your BOB just because of how much more efficient they really are. But ANY pistol is better than nothin!

Mine will be universal, but with a mission specific area inside so this old man can keep the weight down to 15-20 lbs.

Hi. Try the cup on the Esbit stove one time, i would replace 2 or 3 flashlights against a ground-isolation-matt, for a better sleep. Nice pack, nice video bro.
Yes a sleeping mat is somthing I had a hard time deciding on. Ultimately I decided I'd keep a more comfortable sleep system in my vehicle and step it to the outside of the bag if possible.
Over all a terrific bag. Think I counted 5 knives and 4-5 light sources. Seems like you do do with less and shed some weight there. Over redundancy just adds weight. Go w a little more food. Good on ya for having a change of clothes, many don't do. Great bag, you'd be glad to have in any emergency.

Your get home bag is epic. I have a lot of the same gear as you, in my bag, knife stove bivy food. I need to add a radio, space blanket, monocular, and tarp. thanks for sharing.

Add steel wool and 9v battery or two also some wires can come handy (yup simple good coper wires in isolation :) )
Seeing as how useful a charged smartphone is, I'm throwing a 28,000mah battery in mine as well as a 28W fold-up solar charger. Also trying to get HAM licensed so I can properly carry and use a little radio. The smartphone is loaded up with pictures of all important docs, downloaded maps, entertainment, and a number of references and apps for things like first aid, camping, bushcrafting, etc. Also have an old kindle that weighs next to nothing, can be loaded with materials and battery lasts forever.
Great kit Brother, Maybe throw some superglue in the first aid kit. Also check out other options for the stove, the Esbit works but it's bulky and heavy compared to other cook systems currently available. Take a look at the Pathfinder School canteen set, would all fit in your H20 side pouch. Look into some form of comms too, such as walkie talkies, even better would be an inexpensive Baofeng Ham radio. The UV-5 and GT-3 transceivers also receive normal radio channels so could replace the current wind up radio as well as the extra features the Baofeng would offer. Not sure if I saw any but grab some water purification tabs. Maybe throw a knife sharpener in there too, keep those knife blades usable. Keep at it and always keep developing it. BOB's and EDC Bags should always be evolving. Get used to your kit, add what you're missing and lose what you don't need.

Thanks for the subscription, I've looked into radios, that will be a definite upgrade I will have soon, just not sure how the whole Ham certification works, and yes I do already have the water purification tabs and knife sharpener. I'm currently happy with the esbit but I will look into your suggestion. Keep an eye out for an upcoming first aid kit video and also a "Get home bag field test" video coming in April. +PilotPatriot Awesome stuff, look forward to that when you have done it :D In an emergency you can use the radio without a license, you don't need a license to listen in on various channels though, only to transmit ;)

My card deck has info printed on them. The Hart Suit has First Aid info ! Remember "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers. A Day Pack will keep you safe over night and bring you home safe the next day. tjl

I got it from Walmart, but I havnt been able to find this exact one since. they do still have the light sticks but don't have any with the rear facing flashlight. It's made by Rayovac, if you can them please let us know.

Maybe a warmer sleep system? I keep a snugpak jungle blanket in mine to use with an SOL bivvy and sea to summit liner.
I have a sleeping bag that stays under my back seat in my truck, if needed, it would be strapped onto the outside of my bag if weather permitted.

Hi ! Great video. I suggest that you add in your BOB version a good FOOD GATHERING kit to survive longer: YOYO fishing reels, big rat traps, snares, conibear trap, bird trap, fishing kit, etc. appropriate to the area where you live. Good luck !
+prepper quebecois Oh ! I forgot, in your FIRE kit, i suggest that you add a magnifyer glass (some say at least x5). Me i have a x3 glass and i didn't do a test yet. I think that with a x5 it speed up the process.
Good advise, that's the plan! I am currently working on building a bag that will be for more of a Bug Out rather than Get Home. And like you mentioned I will have items like fishing kit and snares for surviving for a longer period of time.
I purchased recently the book: The new Buckshot's complete survival trapping guide (Bruce Buckshot Hemming); very well known in the tripping world. He write: ... SNARES are for those who plan to survive for a SHORT period. In the longer run, it's best to use real traps (big rat traps for smaller games, real traps for bigger games like conibears from 110 to 330; best average size is 220) depending of the area where you live. But all sizes and type of traps are good because they are good for different game sizes. Me i personnaly have aside 50 snares, 10 big rat traps, 6 conibear 160 traps and one 330. I also purchased five 40cm diameter bird traps. If i don't catch anything with that; i'll keep catching fishes. hehe

Real good stuff in there, I’m taking some ideas for this corona virus if it completely gets out of control. The only thing I suggest is a small compact semi auto hand gun with 3 mags of critical defense bullets. Now I don’t know if you carry, but I wouldn’t want the wrong people taking my bag with their guns when I could have had one

Good idea on the light for the back of the pack...I personally dont think the whole grey man dont look tactile thing holds water, A thief is a thief, If someone is a predator they want what you got or at least see what you got. If anything if you look like your not a victim that can be a deterrent in itself , remember most thugs are cowards at heart, they usually only want a fight thats won before it starts.

I would beef up the first aid to an ifak and add more would care.
It will be easy to hurt yourself but not so easy to heal. Also you can help people in trouble.

No backup fixed blade? I keep a Mora Companion as a backup to my primary survival knife (Becker BK-7). I would definitely recommend a small fixed blade to back up the big one. Some good ones are Becker BK-16, Mora Companion, Mora Bushcraft Black, PKS Scorpion (found on self reliance outfitters website), Western L66, or any of Schrade's small fixed blades. Other than the lack of a backup fixed blade, your kit looks good.
The bag has a large fixed blade survival knife, 2 Large folding knives, 2 small folding knives, a multi tool, and a large folding saw! I'm hoping that's enough backup! Thanks though, I'll take a look at the knives you suggested.
Hay dude it’s just a suggestion but when. Done my B.O.B I put some fishing line @ 100lb test also a few fishing accessories too bro. Also some steel string just Incase you need to make a few rabbit snears. Hope this helps.

i suggest you dump 3 flashlights you have waaaayyyy too many.and you should pick up a good machete or tomahawk for shelter building. and consider a goal zero portable solar panel with a guide 10 battery charger (AA/AAA). you may also want to include a combat kit to stop a bad bleed from a sever cut and/or bullett wound.
might also be a good idea to pack a few buck saw blades and screws and nuts you can make the handle out of wood should the fiskers saw break the blade. might also be a good idea to get a folding shovel (E-tool) for digging.
SINESTERSERPENTSIXXX thanks for the advice but you just replaced 2 flashlights with Alot of extra stuff. lol, the 2 extra flashlights are small and don't take up much space or weight at all, and I think the Cold steel and Fiskers will be plenty to cut wood for shelter, especially since this is designed to be a short term get home bag,. in a long term bug out bag I'd have more substantial gear. the solar panel and combat first aif kit is a great idea, I'll have to work on that! The monocular in the bottom of the large section of the bag? The purpose of a "get home nag" is completely different than that of a bug-out-bag. It's not a camping trip either. Shelter building, meal preparation, fishing kits that people put in their bags? The name of the game is to get home. I could have anywhere from a one day hike to three days depending on my worse case EMP event. My bag has gone from 35 pounds to 42 pounds to 27 pounds and back to 35. It's a constant work in progress. Don't load the bag for the anticipated reason. Load the bag for the trip you'll be making.
The large section is designed to open all the way so there really is no "bottom". Also, you said your trip home could be 3 days.....don't you think you'll need shelter and meal prep in 3 days? This bag is built to handle many senerios not just 1
Nice set up . i do wish to warn you that the Smith and Wesson dbl blade knife is not very reliable. I had one and the spine broke doing simple food prep ( i was diceing potatoes)....IMO toss it....and id prolly toss one more of the folders and add a butain torch lighter.

Good idea, but I recommend taking that a step further with a good multitool, the Leatherman on the outside of my bag should have me covered on that front!
+Renaissance MarineTV Keep in mind this is primarily a Get Home Bag. I do not live in an urban environment. Since I live in the country I rarely encounter a chain link fence , especially one that is not easily climbed over.

they make light weight solar chargers might want to invest in one it's worth the money. I use mine for military ops and camping. and a small HAM radio is a plus think you have to have a license for transmit tho, you can pick up news, police, unencrypted military too encase of an emergency.

Good video, I have a 72 hour 5.11 rush backpack, I'm trying to configure for both bugging out as well as backpacking bag, because I don't want to have to get a seperate bag, so I'm just trying to figure out what I need to do haha.

not knowing your EDC recommend a RESQME or similar on keychain to either get out of a car or assist someone stuck in a car.
if walking by roadside.... add a runner safety vest to be seen, aids for search/rescue.
would add a pair of clear safety glasses for use at night especially if debris, high wind... vision problem (something in eye) could definitely affect your ability to get home safely and in good time.
lastly, more medical, a SAM splint, mole skin, ace bandages, eye flush bottle, tourniquet (better to be alive than bleed to death) etc.
I understand redundancy and prefer the triple play concept between EDC and get home bag have three cutting options, flashlights (one should be headlamp for hands free operation), fire, etc. more than three carrying to much weight that could be used to lighten or replace with different items. out of curiously how much does your bag weigh? If trying to get home, walking, the lighter the better in energy spent.
lastly would separate some items so not all water options in only one attachment.... have a mini kit either attached or in bag that could use if have to ditch the big bag (weight slowing/impeding progress).

I really enjoyed your video. I love having the Bible in there. I was just talking to someone today about using a flashlight to store items like cash inside. Plus, some flashlights are waterproof'ish which helps keep that cash dry. Great video.
Thanks, alot of people forget to add cash, but make sure you don't put all you eggs in one basket too, consider multiple spots on your person and bag.

Good stuff here man, you cover a lot of the basics that everyone should start with in their BOB.
Something I added to mine was the MPOWERD Luci Solar Lantern. It's super compact and you can inflate it to hang in your tent, it can float, and best of all...hang it outside your pack while you're walking and it's good to go for 14 hours. Amazon has them for under $15. Worth it.
