Amen. I just got the CR556 competition and that is my only problem and I can't get over it. I have a Les Baer 308 monolith that I hold a half inch minute of angle with. I don't care or did I want an HK with a Match grade Barrel allowing a half in min. of angle as advertised. I'm not using it to reach out and touch. the accuracy with a chrome lined barrel is enough for putting down targets 100 meters and under and you can still reach out and bang without burning barrels

I carried the HK 416 in Afghan while with 2/4 Marines and it was a very good gun. The only thing I did not like was that my gas piston had to be LUBED supper well for some reason. I put a very light coat of CLP on it and while on patrol we got ambushed by a 4 to 5 man Taliban team and my gun stoped cycling after about 65 rounds. I had to use it as a bolt action for the rest of the fight. When I got back to the COP I looked at what might have happend and on the gas pistion there are little rings on the end, kinda of like metal washers. Well my washers were a little large and my buddy who was anothere tester looked at his gas piston and his washers were a little smaller. His gas piston would come out with ease. My gas pistion would not come out with ease. I took the file on my Gerber and filled the washers down and I never had a problem again. Granted I kept an ample amount of CLP on it, but I like to think that what I did worked.

Also that lol. I just prefer the Surefire mags because they fit in a double M4 pouch and I like my gear to be universal, but I'm not going to say no to a MagPul drum mag.

Enz82 Wow, so you're probably one of the first few people to handle the prototypes and the production models, eh? I've handled the MR556A1 at the Leesport Gun Show a few times over the past three years, and the one I handled last year had a Daniel Defense rail on it. That RIS/handguard is VERY ergonomic, and I can safely say that if I ever became a US Army operator, an HK416 with a Daniel Defense rail system would be the ideal option for a fellow like me. It feels great; the top rail lines up perfectly so that it's flush with the rail on the upper receiver; and you can have rails wherever you want while having no rails where you don't need them. All-in-all, an outstanding operating system, and I'm hoping the Berks County Sheriff's Office adopt the HK416 as their standard patrolman's rifle in the not-so-distant future--if they haven't already.
Aqtually our company that i was with was the first to get the weapon in the Norwegian Army, we spent like 2 weeks just shooting it, and we had H&K with us for trubleshooting. the only thing we found out that needed improvement was the magasine. if u loaded with just 1 and 1 bullet u could get a jam, but the 5,56 bullet is mounted on a bracket thingy that u can just put in the quick loader for the magasine. but they improved the magasine after that. and yeah i love the rail it has. easy to use, tho i just have a tac ligth and a bipod on mine. my arms are to short for a front grip :D
yes it's just called a gas system as far as I know. And direct impingement is without a doubt the dumbest design feature to put in a battle rifle, ever.
Being a saw gunner, most of the time we didnt run with a box mag on the weapon. If we did it was only a 100rounder. Most of the time we used loose belts of 50 as they were easier to carry in webbing and lighter to partrol with. The 100 round box mag was saved for specific purposes like ambushing or a heavy contact. Basically my point is, the supposed advantage the saw (or other belt fed weapons) have being less frequent reloads and more ammunition is rendered moot by impracticality. The 416's faster will result in a greater rate of fire.
I just cant get behind the LMG for the squad being a piston AR running 30 round mags, basically defeating the purpose of the light machine gunner. He will be reloading so much.
As much as i'm a fan of the HK systems, why isn't a drum mag (or something like an RPK extended banana mag) being marketed as standard to Mil/LEO's. Also, what are the barrel lifetimes between the M249 and the M27 IAR? And lastly, self promotion aside, why weren't the sights at least set for 100m on the ACOGs?
Between 3:00 and 4:00 did you describe how you took M4 technology under Govt IP rights and delivered it to the Germans for them to improve and sell it back to US military? Is this right? I’d like to know more about why US companies weren’t up to the task.
theres a dude on youtube who would give larry a heart attack cant rerember the dudes name but he swung a fully loaded ar 15 in clockwise circle while he had it slung on his chest the muzzle of the rifle went by his face 5 or 6 times

@John Smith- built a spikes tactical LE upper on a stag lower, a BCM middie on a LMT lower, and recently bought colt 6940 . Total $2900 for 3 rifles! Like Mr Vickers and this video is great, but as a civilian I am NOT going to Afghanistan, invading a beach of a foreign nation, getting into a firefight with crazed insurgents. Plus as pointed out, piston ARs are too proprietary to be a mass consumed system for the avg shooting enthusiast
I agree. Being the the AR was never designed for a piston operating system, they aren't the same across the board. You can find spare parts for most piston systems, but they are expensive. Try googling H&K 416 spare parts, they are ridiculously expensive. Personally, I understand the gas impingement system, so I'll stick with it.
bob18robert the only reason it exists along with the SCAR and the ACR is because the military had an "open" competition in the first place... and the idea was to either wholesale replace through rotation or through armory rotation replace the uppers on the existing lowers... but its too political to scrap Colt's/Remington whomever the fuck is making the M4/M16 on contract currently in a single go.
Paul Bailey I just finished my training with 280 rounds. on Sig 516. On normal gas setting. put it on targets and did mag dumps fast. and not a single problem. now 280 rounds is not that much but I was carrying what a soldier would carry.
James Bond would prefer the m27. that's the Marines hk416. but I wouldn't fighting with Sig 516. Im a civilian. has a 50 pound vest. and the tactical outfit, and 270 rounds. my Sig. running a 40 yard dash forward and back. and pick the rifle and pump rounds at my steel targets. and prone.
James Bond it's really my own thing to stay on in fighting shape. and no I have not owned and hk416. that's only a military gun. but a friend owns and mr556a1
Jacob Stanley I asked at the Cabelas in Hamburg, PA the other day when I was handling an FN M249S, but they said they didn't have any MR556s to sell yet.
this may not be a big deal to some people, but it is to me if anyone cares, probably not though. I dont have all the money in the world. I love firearms an when i buy something I want to know its made the best it can be with the best materials. For the huge price tag I would expect this from companies like H&K and FN. but they use cheaper steel and although they list it in the fine print they d o not advertise it. Someone who saves up for months to buy one of their rifles is spending more money on less. Daniel Defense and many other companies like BCM, Spikes and so on use better barrel steel and cost a fraction of the cost. I dont understand why they do this and charge so much. It really pisses me off. They need to be more upfront with us buyers about this.
In a nutshell, it's more accurate, but less durable and, in theory, should reduce cost. There are other finishes available as well--melonite, for example, seems to offer many of the advantages of chrome with fewer downsides.
Chrome lining was started because of military weapons not lasting as long as intended. Barrels were shot out sometimez in less than 1500 shots. Full auto fire causes the throat to erode much faster than semi auto. Heat is the enemy in ordnance steel.
@Hekler & Koch, guys, the civilian version of HK416 - due to that strange barrel you put there... sucks. The MR223 (maybe MR556 is different) due to that barrel which weights half of the rifle in the 11'5" version! (16" is probably heavier) is completely out of balance. The 70-80% of the rifle overall weight is in front (ultra heavy barrel and the handguard rail system). It feels like heaving 5-6kg rifle when handled in the field. Any manipulation when the front hand needs to be released - changing the magazines, touching the radio, wounds or anything else - even for a moment causes the situation that your holding hand suffers (when use over and over you may face a wrist injury due to the long leverage in front of the rifle) and the rifle goes down immediately. If you're hurt, tired or do not have muscular forearms and wrists the rifle goes down from the target. It's almost impossible to keep it on target by using one hand only all the time. It has nothing to do with the HK416 except the overall look and maybe a gas system (which may also not be the 100% HK416 original gas system. And when you put the EOTech (and flashlight) it is a dramatic experience. The rifle cannot be handled smooth and fast with ease. Take a look at the BCM, SigSauer MCX or similar rifles. They are masterpiece in case of quality, ergonomy, weight balance and handling. The MR223 from the European market even with the 11'5" barrel its terrible. Even AK47! has a better balance and you can hold it with one hand when hurt or switching a mag. In that HK MR223 (probably 556 as well) is abomination. On that movie you mention that the barrel is so thick and heavy for better accuracy. Guys, it is not a sniper or benchrest bolt action rifle to have such heavy and thick barrel. It is a CQB and running & gunning rifle. Most shots are up to 1-50 meters some maybe 100-150 meters. HK you could do better. And if you want to keep it as is do not compare it to HK416. HK416 weights approx. 3kg and has. HK MR 223/556 is 3,5kg (what's worst 0,5kg more in front of the rifle on the barrel).Add EOTech and Surefire and you have 4,5kg rifles when 70-80% of the weight is in front. Guys - clients - before you buy it, take it in your hands at the gun store phisically. And compare it to BCM, Sig MCX, S&W or any other AR-15 (gas or piston) then decide. The fact that a rifle looks like HK416 doesn't mean it is even it's clone. In my personal opinion it shouldn't be compare to HK416. It is a different rifle. Ah, if someone use it for the shooting prone position or benchrest - yes, that rifle HK MR would be ok. CQB or running and gunning it may looks good but it doesn't feel suchy when compare to other AR's on the market.
and H&K doesnt even chrome line the barrel. There is no nitriding or treatment in the bore. This is almost a standard feature on normal Ar15's. hell, S&W M&P 15's, BCM, and even higher cost options like LWRC and POF use barrel treatments and t he POF is the same price as the MR 556 upper for the complete piston rifle and they use billet uppers, lowers, chrome bolt, nitriding, NP3 treatment, I mean my god the features are endless. and the MR556 has non of that.
first they all have bipod capability you just didnt put one on the m16. second i would love to see that m27 after a 5hr firefight with the taliban when it doesnt have a quick change barrel and fires from an open bolt. machine guns are designed like that for a reason and thats why after all this the Marine Corp still uses the saw and 240b or the mk46 and 48.
I am a fan of the new HK 417 "Assaulter" (the FA version) but it's really too heavy. I would personally pick a KAC SR-25 ECC customized compact carbine iteration with a 16" barrel shortened but without a larger brake and instead a specialized/custom can (maybe a short GEMTECH or SUREFIRE, most likely). They have new models, including the DD 3-D variants, titanium cans (the likely one I'd pick if I could find a short can for taking corners etc). *Same with a super old Gen 2 Aimpoint Comp style red dot with one of those fancy new 6x mag installed with 45 degree offset BUIS by a local company. Also, a local Magpul PMAG GEN M3 25 rnd in it's flared magwell (with another dozen, regardless of weight as I'd try to get a Maxim CQB for rear furniture if possible thought idk much how that would work).* Anyone try any of this style of set up?
Sorry, but the weight savings are overstated. The M27 is 8.16 lbs empty with no magazine. H&K lists it at 12.6 lbs, as issued to the Marines, fully loaded with all the junk. As always, enthusiasts exaggerate the objects of their affection. The M16A4 is 7.18 lbs empty--and that's with a full 20 inch barrel. By comparison, the M16A1 is 6.5 lbs with a GI mag and the M4 is 6.1 lbs, naked. Don't yell at me, those are the numbers. Given the shortcomings of the 5.56 round, the M16A1 is the best of the lot if you are firing M193 ball.
Most of the most renowned elite forces in the world use neither guns. That speaks volumes. People let idiot-proof-ness and resistance to neglect overshadow mediocre performance.
You could def still put a bipod/grippod onto the M16A4. I think you should have since the other two have one, make it as even as possible. No shit the M16A4 isn't going to perform as well from prone without a bipod, that's common sense. That ONE shot that almost missed the target obviously makes it the worst without comparing the other two as it can't possible get worse unless you miss completely. Also, you shot 10 rounds with the M16A4, so shooting that many with the M249 and M27 was ideal. On another note though. The only way an M27 could replace an M249 would be if it had a Beta C-Mag 100 round drum. Having to reload after 30 or 60 (casket mag) shots doesn't do much for suppression. Any 30 round 5.56 caliber full auto weapon system can do that. You get WAY more than just a single mag dump out of an M249, and that's why they use them. A RELIABLE drum mag can definitely be better than a belt fed weapon as long as it feeds properly and reliably. Faster reloading is always a plus. I'd imagine the Beta C-Mag would be about the same weight as the 100 round cloth/plastic ammo box that clips onto the M249 as well. Finally, Larry's gotta work on his pronunciation of the words, Tokarev (seen in the 'Original AK-47' video), Trijicon, and the other guy (who works for HK) needs to learn how to pronounce the Koch part of Heckler and Koch. It's not "coke" or "kotch". I don't now how to spell it's proper pronunciation, nor do I think the dictionary type of pronunciation would be easily understood. But if you watch any of XboxAhoy's videos on an HK weapon, he pronounces it correctly. Perhaps since he's over there in Europe, relatively close to Germany, in England. He also explains the real/official pronunciation in one of his videos.
No, shooting 5 rounds next to a guys head is gonna be just as effective as shooting 5 all over the place at him, plus if you do have a point target you can engage, you'll have the accuracy to take them down
Tiger I it's inaccurate as fuck but it doesn't matter due to the amount of bullets it rains down on target. Also it's 7.62x51. If you get hit, you're fucked
I want to ask anybody who own or owned a civilian HK 416... If you don't like the factory stock and pistol grip, can to switch them to aftermarket ones? Like Magpul MOE system or Vltor MOD stock and LMT SOPMOD stocks?

Hecker & Koch! For HK416 series (HK416D, HK416C, HK416A5 Black, HK416N), HK417 series, M27, MK-18 Mod.0, HK433, the BG-16 Tango-down type pistol grip suits you!
Vy are diese Heckler und Koch M27 rifles not in braun/beige? Vy are diese en schwarz?
bikeracerdude xD that Englisch though
I just cant get behind the LMG for the squad being a piston AR running 30 round mags, basically defeating the purpose of the light machine gunner. He will be reloading so much.
Bob L The only bad thing about the M27 is the 30 rd mags. If they developed a drum, I'd be happy.
Thirteen Spades
I'm sure it can run properly with a 100-round Beta Mag or a 150-round Armatac SAWMAG with little or no difficulty.
Now one of these in .300 BLK would be awesome
Steven Swingler
Can't have a .300 BLK HK416 without an integrally-suppressed upper receiver. Gotta take some inspiration from the AAC Honey Badger.
@@maxm2317 of course you can. Sig made the Canebrake that is external piston and isn’t integrally suppressed.
And now it's been adopted as the main weapon for the French army
I was curious how it operates if you would accidently drop or hide loaded mags under water or sand etc
It will work any day under any condition now mather how u abuse it thats why its so pricy
As much as i'm a fan of the HK systems, why isn't a drum mag (or something like an RPK extended banana mag) being marketed as standard to Mil/LEO's. Also, what are the barrel lifetimes between the M249 and the M27 IAR? And lastly, self promotion aside, why weren't the sights at least set for 100m on the ACOGs?
drum mags are shit. Never had a satisfactory expericence with one.
DizBukHaPeter google translate is crap. Never had a satisfactory expericence with a.
22:33 Robby sounds like he didn't know that fact! XD
18:00 cool water test. Just got mine last wk!
Did he fire that weapon, which was full of water? That's awesome
now do an episode with the Sig 516!!!!!! please
Why would HK do a video on a sig?
@@Heywoodthepeckerwood Larry is not HK anymore
@@ortiz11039 yeah, but this is HKs TH-cam channel.
@@Heywoodthepeckerwood oh I must have missed that. My comment is from long ago.
Between 3:00 and 4:00 did you describe how you took M4 technology under Govt IP rights and delivered it to the Germans for them to improve and sell it back to US military? Is this right? I’d like to know more about why US companies weren’t up to the task.
I just bought the HK 416... Why? Because I'm an HK fan with a .40 S&W USP. Quality, practicality and longevity for me fellas. Trust!
He kind of glazed over the mk18 and car15 that were being used for CQB as well beside the m4 and MP5? Right, or am I missing something?
theres a dude on youtube who would give larry a heart attack cant rerember the dudes name but he swung a fully loaded ar 15 in clockwise circle while he had it slung on his chest the muzzle of the rifle went by his face 5 or 6 times
Larry is no showoff...he is the real deal!that guy spent 15 years in delta force!survived 3 helicopter crashes!a lot of his teammates have died in missions and some been crippled permanently for life....
Captain Price trained me.
+p0331546 He trained us all
@John Smith- built a spikes tactical LE upper on a stag lower, a BCM middie on a LMT lower, and recently bought colt 6940 .
LEGENDARY!
Is it just me or does the host remind you abit of tom hanks lol
no doubt, German firearms..
Can US army modify the M4 to be HK416?
That will be much cheaper than replace the M4
They could just buy 416 uppers and place them on M4 lowers. I suppose that could save money.
I know I was just humoring the idea :P
bob18robert the only reason it exists along with the SCAR and the ACR is because the military had an "open" competition in the first place... and the idea was to either wholesale replace through rotation or through armory rotation replace the uppers on the existing lowers... but its too political to scrap Colt's/Remington whomever the fuck is making the M4/M16 on contract currently in a single go.
Grady McDonald
I believe FN is making some, if not all the M4/M16s for the military. I could be wrong however.
yes
Is the HK416 can be fitted with Colt M203 shorty? Thanks.
Thanks
Aleneski Kalashnikova You would mount a Hk M320 Rail mounted Grenade Launcher
Thanks a lot.
Looks a great rifle. Does anyone have experience with the HK and the Sig 516 ? Are they both good rifles ?
yup but HK usually uses Bolt action guns what makes HK Guns more powerful and accurate SIG use gas pressure and thats not bad but i always prefer HK
Im a civilian. has a 50 pound vest. and the tactical outfit, and 270 rounds. my Sig. running a 40 yard dash forward and back. and pick the rifle and pump rounds at my steel targets. and prone.
James Bond it's really my own thing to stay on in fighting shape. and no I have not owned and hk416. that's only a military gun. but a friend owns and mr556a1
dude looks like the White Ice-T...
i was always interested since learning about the AN-94... does anyone happen to know what the MOA is for the 2-round "hyper-burst" as it is called?
416 is sick.
With an effective range of about 600 meters, is it possible to try for 800 meters target with 16.5 inch barrel?
miss my hk416 from the army :(
Which Army?
Zoltan Csikos I was in HMKG in the norwegian army
Cool :D like a modern viking! :D lol
Zoltan Csikos
That would be the navy
Luis Arrieta nah, its waaaay more stricter. but its not impossible. takes 2 years of competition
I really enjoyed this video, per se...
What's the prune position.
Anyone know what a fair price for the civilian model is?
Jacob Stanley
I asked at the Cabelas in Hamburg, PA the other day when I was handling an FN M249S, but they said they didn't have any MR556s to sell yet.
I read that HK was forced to make the Ak47 after Russians came into Germany but Germany neverbgot credit for it. MG42 was an amazing gun from WW2.
But what is the rate of fire of the civilian version - MR556A1?
How come there are no iron sights on the MR556A1?
this may not be a big deal to some people, but it is to me if anyone cares, probably not though.
Why no mention of the HK 53 isn't that a compact gun identical to the mp5 only shooting a 556
What are the pros and cons of a non-chrome lined barrel?
In a nutshell, it's more accurate, but less durable and, in theory, should reduce cost. There are other finishes available as well--melonite, for example, seems to offer many of the advantages of chrome with fewer downsides.
Chrome lining was started because of military weapons not lasting as long as intended. Barrels were shot out sometimez in less than 1500 shots. Full auto fire causes the throat to erode much faster than semi auto. Heat is the enemy in ordnance steel.
Jai Bronson The cons MUCH MUCH MUCH outweigh the pros.
The butt stock locking seems very interesting to me....companies like HK pay attention to every little detail.
German made = Best Quality made , at last it feels
Made in Romania, Spain, Portugal, Turkey ...... ..
And he has a BCM hat on lol. Give me a BCM AR any day!
How does it perform in the snow and extreme cold?
Im sold. where can i get one?
Now make it $500-800 cheaper and accept P Mags :P
+Combat Aviator - True , i think only the A5 accepts P mags.......................
ATadBitNefarious You can just buy the upper.
PMags aren’t the be all end all bro. DEVGRU and CAG run these rifles so if it’s good enough for them it’s good enough for anybody.
Nein. Das geht nicht.
Pmag v3 works.
Larry said, "based on my involvement with the weapon" like 6 times in one hour. He is hilarious.
Video starts at 0:43 you’re welcome
Can live w/ the non-chromed barrel, but not thrilled about the chamber not being lined.
Years later...did anyone lose that tool yet in the MR? Be better if you could just use a round.
Would of loves to see the COLT IAR VS MK27
I have the airsoft version now I want the real one XD
Larry & Ko (hogs up lugi)
Probably should have had a solid target without the trapdoor in the center for the 100 burst/300 single shot.
The cameraman was little drunk, can seem to steady close up shots
Mishaco on TH-cam has better camera work and he's blind.
They are all post 86 though
and H&K doesnt even chrome line the barrel. There is no nitriding or treatment in the bore. This is almost a standard feature on normal Ar15's. hell, S&W M&P 15's, BCM, and even higher cost options like LWRC and POF use barrel treatments and t he POF is the same price as the MR 556 upper for the complete piston rifle and they use billet uppers, lowers, chrome bolt, nitriding, NP3 treatment, I mean my god the features are endless. and the MR556 has non of that.
thanks a lot
so is this host a firearms designer or engineer
The host is is ex green beret and delta force. He just happens to be a massive firearms enthusiast
first they all have bipod capability you just didnt put one on the m16. second i would love to see that m27 after a 5hr firefight with the taliban when it doesnt have a quick change barrel and fires from an open bolt. machine guns are designed like that for a reason and thats why after all this the Marine Corp still uses the saw and 240b or the mk46 and 48.
Is this the weapon for our Sp. Op's folks, yup! Is this the weapon for our infantry grunts nope.
What's with the music? It's like the show creators are insecure that the content will hold audience's attention.
Will this be replaced by the 433?
No. But the G36 maybe gets replaced since it got too old.
สุดยอดมากเลยคับ😊😊
Sorry, but the weight savings are overstated. The M27 is 8.16 lbs empty with no magazine. H&K lists it at 12.6 lbs, as issued to the Marines, fully loaded with all the junk. As always, enthusiasts exaggerate the objects of their affection. The M16A4 is 7.18 lbs empty--and that's with a full 20 inch barrel. By comparison, the M16A1 is 6.5 lbs with a GI mag and the M4 is 6.1 lbs, naked. Don't yell at me, those are the numbers. Given the shortcomings of the 5.56 round, the M16A1 is the best of the lot if you are firing M193 ball.
those are some expensive firearms ,all u'll need is a PKM and a scoped AK-74 and get the job done .
True...but Germans always go for the Porsche...:-)
Can I put a bayonet on it ?
I thought you'd WANT more dispersion with a weapon used for a suppression role...
No, shooting 5 rounds next to a guys head is gonna be just as effective as shooting 5 all over the place at him, plus if you do have a point target you can engage, you'll have the accuracy to take them down
yeah... an MG3 is going to outsupress any of these lol :D
+İbrahim Çetin But MG3 uses Bolt action
Tiger I it's inaccurate as fuck but it doesn't matter due to the amount of bullets it rains down on target. Also it's 7.62x51. If you get hit, you're fucked
I want to ask anybody who own or owned a civilian HK 416...
If you don't like the factory stock and pistol grip, can to switch them to aftermarket ones?
Like Magpul MOE system or Vltor MOD stock and LMT SOPMOD stocks?
Yes you can
kvbm HK416 is compatible with the AR-15 platform. You can literally put the upper on an AR-15 lower.
