    Thanks for this! OpenToonz was so impenetrable as a new user, with its weird terminology and nonstandard shortcuts. This was enough to get started and make sense of their system.

      It's great to hear the video was helpful. :) Yeah it's quite intimidating at first. The good news is tough that professional software like ToonBoom Harmony use a lot of the same concepts, so if you already got used to them in OpenToonz it's easier to pick up.

    Great job. SO much clearer and straight forward than any other OpenToonz intros I've seen on TH-cam. You really present from a beginner's perspective without assuming we know all the lingo out of the box. Very helpful!

    This is one of the best animation tutorials for total beginners I have ever seen. I really mean it, no kidding. You can not imagine how many videos on different softwares I watched. Totally useless, I ended up hating and giving up cause I had no proper and clear introduction. Thank you a lot.

    I remember installing opentoonz a few years ago and being completely overwhelmed, maybe even intimidated, by it. Needless to say I never did much in it and it's just been sitting on my computer. Recently I got more and more inspiration to animate even short animations just for fun and I think this is the perfect software for me. Thank you so much for making it more accessible to new users like this!

    Even after a year still works. So much gratitude for this. I have dyslexia and find it hard to grasp concepts at times. Much thanks for taking your time and breaking it down and making it easy for us all to understand. I never thought i would make it very far but i am so thrilled with just knowing the basics, because it is more then i knew when just loading it for the first time and getting overwhelmed. Now i can make a little sense out of it. I come from using GIMP and PDN and can't wait to see what i can do in OT :D again tysm .

    Hello, love the video, very informative. I do have a few questions:
    a. is there a way to draw a background or a scenery?
    b. is there a way to make it so that the background doesn't change per frame?

    • @wendo____O
      @wendo____O 3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Do u mean copy and pasting the background if so then this is kinda hard to explain but tap on the column u want to draw the background in, draw it then double tap on the second table below the one u drew in and type out the same column number as the one u were drawing in. I hope this helped

    • @mreclecticguy
      @mreclecticguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Create a layer and draw your background (assuming you aren't going to move your background in any way, as you asked in question b), then click on the frame the background is on. Grab the gray maker in the righthand corner of the frame and drag it as far as you want. It will hold the frame for you. Doing it this way makes it easy to shorten or lengthen the number of frames you want the background to hold.

    Ferdinand, that was an excellent beginner tutorial. You explained things in detail without skipping basic concepts which a lot of tutorials do because they "assume" you already knew that concept or procedure...as a beginner, probably not...or they just want to do a short video. I'm a musician with zero animation experience and I've been doing some initial research into potential software that I could use as a beginner to make basic animated music videos and after this tutorial, I think I'm sold on this program. I have one (potentially dumb) question...did you use a tablet/laptop with a screen that you can draw on to make the animated ghosts or a peripheral device (usb?) on which you can draw the ghosts? I could never have enough hand control and steadiness to draw anything like that using a mouse. Thanks.

    • @gabriellastauffer
      @gabriellastauffer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a dumb question! Yes, tablets are made nowadays that you can draw on. It is likely that he has a display tablet (where you draw directly on the screen), but he could also have a non-display one directly on the desk, USB or even bluetooth connected. It's definitely possible to make animations with just a mouse, but it is really worth the price of a cheaper drawing tablet if you are making anything more than a few frames! Good luck on animating

    • @RockDocNeal
      @RockDocNeal ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gabriellastauffer Thank you so much for responding! I haven't tried doing any animation yet because I have to get motivated to fully complete the song that I was going to do the animation for, but your info has given me some inspiration to finish it. 😁 Being able to draw on a tablet would give me the ability to do some basic animation that would be above the 1'st grade art class level I'd achieve with a mouse.
