    It's amazing how much creativity MTV put into something as simple as a Station ID back then. I feel like like not only did they take great pride in promoting their station, but I think the Station IDs alone would make for great TV shows.

    Actually, Ghostbusters came out on June 8th of this year (same day as Gremlins), according to Box Office Mojo. And I agree, it's amazing that they were able to get something this accurate out so quickly. The Summer of 84 was when I fell in love with movies, and it was when my older brothers took me to see both Ghostbusters and Gremlins that summer when I was 7 years old.

    That Tokyu commercial is just...Wow. I have never seen anything that 80s in my entire life. I know that comment is probably thrown around this channel a lot, but seriously.

    I remember those Pizza Hut duffle bags. I had one and the zipper broke after about three zips. It was also not much larger than a loaf of bread.

      I figured at a cost of 1 dollar it was both cheap and small so glad to hear my thought was right.

    Merry Go Round -they couldnt have just gone in the store after them..?
    VJ Segment-Scandal/Patty Smyth actually did put on a good concert
    Reefer Madness-the 2005 remake(based on the stage musical)didnt measure up to the original IMO
    The Gap-inspired by the film Stayin'Alive
    MTV Music News/VJ Segment-R.I.P Ronnie James Dio
    Sneak Preview Video-"Desert Moon"..that actually wouldve made for a good television movie starring Dennis DeYoung
    Tokyu Sportswear -i preferred Union Bay
    Mountain Dew-lot of dislocated joints afterwards
    Station ID-i think there's a whole collection of these on TH-cam
    Hollywood Beauty School-"a new drama from the producers of(insert favorite 80s primetime soap here) coming soon!"
    Millers Outpost-would be funny if there was a reference to this ad in the upcoming Ghostbusters:Afterlife

      @@TheRacingGenius88 yeah? Well them and VH1 totally sucks along with BET. All of those channels used to be cool. Nowadays we have MTV classics which I do like, and we have what’s called BET Soul. But, I will it mitt that I miss VH1 classic. That channel was the bomb back then.

      @@kayandaeddings4803 If only time travel was possible I'd ask the corporate suits what not to do with MTV and VH1 even BET. Maybe even Fuse as well.

    Now a days they really don’t play music videos on MTV.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why would they? TH-cam among others made appointment watching for music videos obsolete when you can just look them up at your leisure. It was a fun ride back in the day, but it served its purpose. All modern MTV goes to prove is that no one's bothering with television anymore.

      Call me crazy, but there was something simplistic and cozy about just turning on the TV and watching what was on at the moment. Or being surprised by what was coming up next. While being able to watch practically whatever you want at a touch of a button is convenient, many times you can find yourself overwhelmed by the options.

    • @oldradiosnphonographs

      Especially while you wait for someone you like you might be exposed to a song or artist you’ve never heard before.

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't agree more that those were very special times, and no level of network decay and terrible reality shows can take those away from you. I'm torn myself between the feeling of having something to look forward to or just veg out to of traditional television and the convenience of never having to miss a show again due to streaming and..uh...other options. At the same time, I get why MTV as a promotion of music and advertising forum for albums and singles doesn't work in an era where only collectors and fans buy music, and new artists have more options of self promoting. Then again, every cable network is just dying out and just showing a rotation of a handful of shows. With of course the exception of genre shows that only get attention on streaming anyway. Strangely enough there are still music video networks on cable, but they're weird. Nickelodeon has one for some reason.

    I thought I spied Carol Alt in the Vidal Sassoon commercial. Also, I've seen a lot of very weird, very 80s commercials on this channel over the many, many years I've been a subscriber, but that Tokyu commercial takes the #1 spot. Yikes. Are we sure that wasn't some art school student's assignment for video class?
