Hello Mike. Uncle Tony here. I greatly appreciate the kind words and tuning in to our “show”. Now that is quite awesome. I’d love the opportunity to help.
This is the best engine build video I have seen. I have been rebuilding my own engines for over 20 years and I still learnt new tricks of the trade from this video!
This is a $1mm plus video. This sort of detail is insane and you cant find this anywhere else. Jeske kills it, and I hope the next generation uses this level of information from MXREVIVAL and Jeske to keep ripping. This is next level real shit, the new version of an encyclopedia. thank you both.
Thank you very much Sean! We both appreciate that, and you. It's great feedback for us as well, because Tony and I are cooking up some plans to keep this sort of stuff rolling together
Not doing a 500 conversion anytime soon but still learned a ton of solid information on this build to apply to my own yz. That's definitely pro level attention to detail! Makes me wanna go back through my last bottom end and redo some stuff!
I'm glad to see so much detail going in to my BRC YZM500's engine. I learned a lot of stuff that I didn't know. That totally rocked. Cheers to "Chuck" and his family and, of course Tony.
Greetings Charles and Uncle Tony! I have a few comments and stories I'd like to add, to help viewers of your masterful build, if you don't mind. I put the 2nd mainshaft clip sharp side down. It retains the 4th drive gear, and 3rd never rubs it. The 3rd gear dogs would bottom in the 5th gear holes before 3rd would rub that clip. When I build a trans, I like to have the ends of my clips coincide with a lateral spline on it's shaft. I also put them either 180 (for 2 clips) or 120 degrees (for 3 clips) apart. Balanced, as all things should be. Also, on a lot of 4 strokes, they use the trans shafts as part of the pressurized oiling system. I make damn sure the shaft holes line up with the gear bushing holes. The case reed Zabel 700s use those additional transfer area base studs, as do the 1973 and 1974 Yamaha SC500s, and probably others too. The machine I know best, the Suzuki LT500R, sure could have used them. They are known for blowing base gaskets there. I prefer that the cases come bare myself. I can see some very minor casting imperfections on the reed and transfer areas that I would grind smooth and clean before installing my bearings. It also makes it easier to grind the cases to match the base gasket, and the base gasket to the cylinder. I can attest to the pain in the ass Yamaha shift fork setup. They can be installed without that trick tool, but it sure ain't fun. I saw you put blue loctite on the bearing retainer fasteners, but I didn't see on the pizza cutter (I like that) bolt and shift pawl drum retainer bolts. I've seen them loosen with use without it on a buddy's CR250R. Extremely dangerous, jumped in and out of gears. Ring end gap is EXTREMELY important. Here's a story about what happens when it's too tight. This happened on an Arctic Cat laydown 800 H.O. with a 920 big bore kit. The builder didn't check the ring end gap, and the ring ends butted up against each other during hard, high throttle use. This caused a lot of heat in the piston, and it caused the ring locating pin area to soften, and the pin came out of the piston. The upper ring then rotated to the middle of the exhaust port. Through a combination of exhaust heat blowtorching through that gap and the ring ends catching the exhaust port, the engine seized HARD. This was a prime example of a great build. Extraordinary attention to detail. Most impressive. Whoever wins this will have a damn good rig. Thanks, and everybody keep on wrenchin'! Kyle T

At 57:50 u both got it wrong , on most JP makes vehicles the cross bolts are not Phillips or Pozidriv/Supadriv , they are actually JIS Bolts . Most JP vehicles that have been messed with, have ruined cross bolts in. Using the correct JIS driver, feel and grip difference ,is like night and day , u will never strip a bolt again. True JIS driver designation code is B4633 , can be hard to find because its supposed to be"obsolete" from 2008 and is now defined by same designation code as Phillips which is NOT at all the same. JIS drives are built to grip and give maximum torque with perfect fit. Bolts with dimple are always JIS but there are JIS bolts without it. Available in sizes +1 , +2 , +3. True Phillips driver designation code is DIN 5260-PH/ISO 8763-1 and are sometimes sold as JIS by scammers for reason said above .Phillips drives are made to STRIP the head of the bolt ,in order to avoid overtorque , that's their main design, this applies to all PZ/SD and JIS bolts. If a bolt is stuck u are Fcked with a driver like this , even if u use with a manual impact driver. Pozidriv/Supadriv drives are easily recognized through the second bumps in it and notches always in the bolts. Its not interchangeable with other drivers. Mostly used on wood screws. So True JIS is not only interchangeable with Phillips but the BEST choice for JIS AND Phillips screws , u will never look back.
I ended going down the rabbit hole you just explained. I have a couple Yamaha IT175 bikes and like the one I have had since I was a kid and am going through it this winter to resurrect it because it hasn't ran in 30+....I didn't know about this JIS deal when I was a kid and remember being pissed off about my screws back then. Now at 51, getting back into bikes and ended up learning WHY all my screws are stripped out! Lol. That's good stuff you posted up here. I could be wrong but I think a lot of enthusiasts don't know about the "Japanese Industrial Standard" on Japanese bikes. Thanks for putting that up. Maybe you helped out one of our fellow riders. Happy holidays!

Just wondering what that product was that you applied to the base gasket? Silicone or gasket bond? I was always told base gaskets go on dry but maybe the silicone? is a good idea around the water jacket. Great bike build👍👍

I didn't know those new BRC 500 kits ran the one needle style crank bearing on the one side like KTM does KTM uses them that's pretty cool makes for splitting cases a lot easier sometimes you don't need a crankcase splitter with that style bearing little persuasion with a rubber mallet you can pop them cases open sometimes as for the other case have you might still need the crank puller not always though that's pretty cool whoever wins this bike is going to be one happy camper
Solid engine build by two trays Tony, and really good video / commentary by Charles to keep it light and fun/funny the entire way. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I've got full condficence this YZ 500 will prove to be a bullet proof build with such detail taken by each whack of the peen. Why did he heat up the water pump shaft? Wouldn’t that expand the shaft? I would have thought he would have put the heat to the gear expanding the gear allowing the shaft to press out easier.
I believe that when you have a steel on steel application like that, heat in general is going to help things "loosen up" and come apart regardless. Like sore muscles in a hot tub - maybe a lame example... There's really no option in this case to heat one or the other without direct heat transfer- unlike an engine case, for example, where you could expand the aluminum case exclusively around a steel bearing race... especially due to being two completely types of metal where one of which expands rapidly while the other doesn't.
This was an amazing video!!! So very informative and just as important, wildly entertaining!!! I have clicked off of so many videos because they were snooze fests....you two made this video so much fun with all the pens jokes!!! I feel this particular style of video can be pretty plain and slow going so I’m glad uncle Tony and I are able to drop a little bit of cured humor in there to mix it up.
I thought that was pretty slick as well! Tony mentioned to me that was a KTM thing 🙌
Solid engine build by two trays Tony, and really good video / commentary by Charles to keep it light and fun/funny the entire way. I can't believe I watched the whole thing. I've got full condficence this YZ 500 will prove to be a bullet proof build with such detail taken by each whack of the peen. Motor / gearcase porn at it's finest. :-) If I win this bike, you can be sure it will be F'ing ridden and not showcased.
Big raunchy chickens

Have a good new year Charles good to hear from you
😍
There’s enough in here to choke a giraffe 😂😂😂😂
😂 he died….
How does a yz250 2t gearbox handle double the torque? They were never great to start with. False neutrals after 12months etc
No problem so far! I’ve had issues with Suzuki transmissions, but never Yamaha. I’ve heard some guys complain about their gear. But never experienced it myself. Only the shift selector bearing coming apart on the 250, sending ball bearing through the transmiss 🙃
How about applying some man butter to that water pump shaft before pressing
Bungholios Racing company. !
I NEED T.P.!!!
@@mxrevival we supply the sh**tiest of parts !
CHARLES MAN DANG!! My butt went numb watching this long ass video on the shitter!!! Dude even my chick asked me if I was ok? All I told her was I just can't stop watching these 2 men playing with their lubed up shafts and what not...Anywho... I guess she's going to be staying at her moms place for a while soooo...... HOUSE PARTY!!! BYOB!!
Hahahahahahahahaha Bring Your Own Boyfriend 😂😂😂 awesome comment, bro. had me rolling
@@mxrevival awesome enough to win a weekly giveaway!?!? Cmon Charles almost gave me cc info to some mx revival imposter scammer!! Knew it was fake when I asked the dumbass about the sick metal that plays in the intro, said it was aluminum......
I think he’s a bit confused by newton meters. He kept saying 100Nm. That’s around 70ft/lbs. He should’ve been saying 10Nm for 7 ft/lbs.
Definitely a bit distracting having somebody make dick jokes and film you while you try and do something technical as well. Ha ha ha.
@@mxrevival lol, I wouldn’t know but I’m sure it distracting. No worries. Hugely informative video. 👊
Hi Chuck. Thank you for pointing that out, but I feel the need to interject. The pee pee jokes aside I was referring to deka n/m which is what my torque wrench is for small fasteners. 100 dnm = 10 nm = 7.4ftlbs.
We do appreciate you watching us dingbats.
@@EliteMotoFactory ahhh, makes sense now, and I wasn’t trying to come off like an asshole, I hope that’s not how it sounded. This is a great, informative and entertaining video. Your attention to detail is second to none.
Mega a hole Chuck, mega. I’m the doofus that said it all wonky. I do appreciate you saying something and for the compliments. Uncle Tony
B. R. C. - Bring Reinforced Cohones because this thing is gonna rip

Why did he heat up the water pump shaft? Wouldn’t that expand the shaft? I would have thought he would have put the heat to the gear expanding the gear allowing the shaft to press out easier.
I was getting ready to post the same thing. He should of heated the gear to expand it and not the shaft.
@@michaelwendler5589 Replied to Dustin.... 👍 Thanks for watching, Mikey!
Man butter: Dupont Krytox grease....
This was an amazing video!!! So very informative and just as important, wildly entertaining!!! I have clicked off of so many videos because they were snooze fests....you two made this video so much fun with all the pens jokes!!! I do kind of feel sorry for your wife if you are like this at home, though!!! Lol!!!
Hahahaha thanks Todd! I know how dry and boring. Most videos are in general, and it’s honestly always heavy on my mind making sure things don’t suck. I feel this particular style of video can be pretty plain and slow going so I’m glad uncle Tony and I are able to drop a little bit of cured humor in there to mix it up. My humor is certainly not for everyone, and it is way worse at home, but at least you enjoyed the video 😂
Minimum squish of 0.58 what? mm or thousands of an inch?
You got it, thousandths! Millimeters would be a little over 2 inches 😁 apologies if we made that unclear, been a minute since I watched this one
@@mxrevival Maybe a dumb question but I know almost nothing about engine builds, so I thoght ill ask. Thanx dude, you've got a mean channel and a beast of a bike too. Cheers from Sweden!!!

Yes, completely different engine, built to drop directly into the Yamaha chassis

Going down!!!
Should have put a Hinson basket in there but a new clutch is good too.
They’re on backorder! We tried… needed to have an OEM one here due to the tight timeline of the build and giveaway
you dont heat the fucking shaft if you need to press it out of something else....
Be careful or I'll heat your shaft next! 😂
I’m no engineer, but I do love heat, it’s neat.
