the tie is just a way of extending the note! say if you have a whole-note and then a half-note, you would play the 4 beat note then the 2 beat note. If you tied them together, it would take up all 6 beats without a break. hope this helps
@ocularzombie6679 unless you're a trombone player, they act completely the same! When you see a slur/tie, you just push air and don't tongue anything for the duration of the mark. Let your fingers do all the work in a slur, and just count when you're in a tie. Hope this helped 🩷💜

I've always found it weird how ties and slurs have the same notation, only slurs are shifted up or down with pitch and behave differently
