Two recommendations; first I would suggest you use the metal zip ties as the plastic ties break down and weaken over time. Second, you're exposing that rubber hose to high pressure propane which can leach out the oils within the rubber and foul up the Oxygen Depleation Sensors on the Little Buddy. Use the recommended filter.
I know you're not serious with your comment that awesome about zip ties you never thought of that oh my gosh there's something going on with this TH-cam waste you people are trying to reinvent the wheel are you doing a horrible
Use a Christmas tree stand. Put a filter on the heater to get a grip on it with the existing wing nut screws. Don't tighten screws too much. Now you're all ready to hook up to a20# tank using an extension hose.
@simon sharp There is an in line filter that screws onto to the propane hose between the heater and your 20 lbs propane tank. They sell for about $12 at Tractor Supply. A filter prevents contaminants in propane from getting Into the heater and damaging it.
Thanks for the video.. although i did everything you said.. ordered everything but it didn't work as smoothly for me.. but fixed mine to where i only had to buy a 3/8 to 3/8 male to female elbow and the 1"-20 male throw away adapter fitting... and that was it.. it's been working good for 4 days now.. no problems. Sits sturdy in the floor.. so basically i didn't need all the other elbows as in the video.. however thanks to your concept it really had helped us to use the little buddy for efficiently directly from the bigger tank.. also temperatures are low as 25 degrees but im able to sleep comfortably without feeling like I'm going to run out of propane
I'm not sure if I like this mod or not lol. If you are going to use a green tank anyway, just screw the heater on top like it's supposed to be. I would find a way to make that plastic base weigh more and not be so easily tippable. That said I am glad to have this as an option, and if I needed the heater on a desk or other elevated surface I would like this setup better than the top-heavy one.
I’ve had issues with the green cylinder icing up. A few times it’s caused the glue holding the plastic base on the cylinder to fail. Also, a lot of people use these heaters in van type campers. Keeping the heater close to the floor helps the heat circulate. (crack the windows and use a carbon monoxide detector)
the fuel line Mr Heater makes for their products is "oil free" and won't clog your gas orifices according to them. Good hack, but why not just make a more stable base instead? Thanks for the video.
Has anyone tried this with the Buddy Golf Cart heater? The golf cart heater looks like it has a flat base that would possibly require no sawing into the stove drip pan.
PGN, please, do a mod on the Mr. Heater Golf Cart heater. It is quite a bit small than the Mr. Heater Little Buddy you modded in this video but is still top heavy. I'd like to use one or the other in my small UTV but smaller is actually better if I can get over the tall tip over factor. Thanks if you can!
You should’ve put the hose connection on the backside that would’ve been a little bit safer not that what you did is wrong smart idea works out great but I would’ve put that hose connector on the backside
Could you have a splitter and use two 1pound bottles at the same time? Like to make the heater last longer without having to change bottles. Example I use this over night to assist with heating my little greenhouse and 1 bottle lasts 5.5 hours. So 2 bottles together should last way longer. Don't know much about it.
Honestly a Mr heater brand hose kind of sounds like a scam just so that you buy their product at a markup. A great mod very nice. now to find a store around me that has a bunch of those kind of connector things cuz I can have a lot of fun with a bunch of different kinds of those
Oh I had asked for was to show me just how to assemble the body Junior with a 16 ounce propane canister and you're the second guy that decided to like reinvent the heater I mean it's crazy both of you sound sound like you're out there we know nobody wants to spend the money and then have to you know I have the knowledge in the know how to do all this other stuff it's crazy it's a little Junior I just saw a guy explain the whole assembly and how to use it in less than five minutes and he didn't have to add anything to it you didn't have to go buy new nozzles you didn't have to go get them
Does the valve you added at the end of the hose where it connects to the propane tank allow you to regulate the flow of gas into the heater and thus the heat output? If so that would be great! I find that the heat is far too much in many circumstances and I'd prefer to be able to run it at maybe 25% of the standard "one speed" setting that is built into the unit.
This video should have way more views! That's a sick mod!
I agree with it being top heavy, good fix, I'm not as handy so I wound up duct taping the plastic base to a concrete tile.
Whatever it takes to keep that silly thing from tipping over.
I did this mod thanks to watching your video, it works amazingly. Just brilliant!!! Thank you so much.
Awesome, thanks!

Awesome vid! Great thinking! I'll likely adopt this mod or something like it. You got a new subscriber! Thanks again!!
Awesome ! I never thought about zip ties to secure it to my base I’m making for a hose and filter to 20 lb tank conversion .

Genius innovation and great execution. The original top-heavy design is a bit mind-boggling! Thanks for sharing 😁
Thanks for watching!

Good idea.
What do you mean exactly by putting a filter a filter on the heater ?

Glad to hear you found a solution that works. I may have over engineered it a little, but that's half the fun.
@PerfectlyGoodNobody yeah it was but thanks for the re-configuration
Awesome idea, Thank you for sharing !
Awesome mod. Thanks for sharing.
I know this is two years old. But this is really good!!!
Thanks!
Dude that is simply brilliant
Thanks!
The valve that you put on the tank side could be used to reduce the amount of heat which will be really handy.
I'm not sure the heaters are designed to work with variable propane.
This would work perfect to connect it to a manifold to hook up more than one tank.
Right on, dig this. May buy the 3 pound manchester tank an try this.
To prevent the gas from spraying is to shut the valve off but leave the heater on so it uses up the propane In the line.
Good call, that’s what I do. It still runs for a few minutes with the valve closed.
Nice! Mr. Heater should hire you to design a replacement.
give that guy a fortune cookie. he's smarter than people that actually made it
Todays engineers have very little common sense....snowflake generation !

You better screw a filter on that hose or as with the larger buddies hose impurities will plug the heater.
and plugging the heater with oil debris means ruin/kill/destroy/brick the heater. That's why I like the 10 foot hose plus filters aren't free!
Great idea but you need a filter to run with that hose
Great idea!
Now if we can just rig a thermostat onto it to shut it off to pilot and back on!
Great idea . No tipping over anymore . With that valve can you regulate the flame ? Or it's fully open all the time ?
I tried, the heater just shuts off. It does take a minute for the gas in the hose to run out.
Awesome!!!!

Has anyone tried this with the Buddy Golf Cart heater? The golf cart heater looks like it has a flat base that would possibly require no sawing into the stove drip pan.
Can you use a 5-10 pound propane tank on this?
If you added the right hardware. The larger tanks use a different connector.

I considered that. But I’m using it in a corner, dealing with the hose coming out the back wouldn’t have worked.
Good idea nice
Good idea for this. did you spray soapy water on the fittings to make sure of no leaks?
I did, no leaks.
Can't you just put a couple of small sandbags around the base so it won't tip over?
I suppose so. But in a camper, less stuff is always better.
I hope you also have an adapter to hook up a 20lb tank to that, those 1lb'ers will break you buying them.
The 20lb tank should work with an adapter. I've been refilling the 1lb'ers off a 20lb tank. Gets it down to a dollar per 6hrs of heat.
@@PerfectlyGoodNobody Would love a video on how you refill those green 1lb bottles. Thanks.
And a filter at the end next to the heater.
As long as you are using a Mr. Heater branded hose a filter won’t be necessary. They use a material that doesn’t seep oil like the rubber hoses.
@@PerfectlyGoodNobody Only the 10 ft hose can be used without filter.

Guess that would work. But wouldn't be mort cost affective to use a 20lbs tank?
Should be obvious but the tank should be turned or screwed off before you turn the heater off to burn the fuel in the line.
INNOVATION
Where did you find that line with that brass type of valve?
Links for the individual parts is provided.
Is that a 1/4 male to 1/4 female 90 that goes to the hose connection
Yes, you'll need 3 of them. amzn.to/3lLmSSM
Nice Good Job!
Thanks!
What is the number to the last fitting you used underneath the stand?
Mr. Heater 1"-20 Cylinder x 1/4" Female - amzn.to/3lOBjHX
👍 very good
nice but cost more than what I paid for the heater
Possibly, but a small price to pay for not having the heater tip over.
