  • Previous amber rectangular LED was good for me too, but I wanted some unusual LED in my radio, so I desoldered a little, rectangular, 3x2mm blue LED from some old PCBs...
Now the display backlight color is even better!
P.S: If I ever had a rectangular cyan LEDs, I would have used them in all my radios!

Well, blue light isn't the best choice for backlight actually. It affects badly for eye accommodation and night vision. Thats why all instruments in aircraft cockpit equipped with red or amber backlight. But taste differ of course

I have tried various LEDs in this radio. The red one, in my case, affected the readability of the display. Yellow LEDs were almost OK. Lime green LEDs aren't really bright, but sometimes, their color is nice. Pink one was the worst. White was kinda weird. Green and blue LEDs were really awesome, so I try my best to use these LEDs in my radios, although I never go against amber and yellow LEDs :)
Now I want to use cyan, purple, lemon yellow and warm white LEDs! :) I hope they will glow nicely :)

@@PolskieRadio225kHz warm white LEDs is nice! As for me i always change for amber LEDs if it possible. It's interesting how vary color and contrast perception in eyes of different people. My eyes almost can't see symbols on classic LCDs with blue backlight and eyes become strained almost imidiatly.
I just finished building a barometer with lemmon yellow LCD and it's looks pretty nice by the way
