How a Tunnel Kiln works, Medalta

- Right around the time of World War 2, Medalta upgraded their ceramic firing process, moving from their iconic beehive kilns to a more streamlined approach - the tunnel kiln.
These kilns reduced the amount of labour that was needed to load & unload ware. Pottery was placed on a cart, which ran on railroad tracks. These tracks slowly moved through the kiln, getting fired in the process.
A portion of a tunnel kiln is still on display in Medalta's Industrial museum in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada
