Black cumin is great in salad dressing. I grind up a bunch of seeds, along with rosemary and thyme, in a spice grinder before adding it to my blender for batch-making homemade salad dressing to freeze in ice cube trays.

EDIT: The flowering seeds commonly found are Nigella Damascena - so they are different cultivars for flowers.

I have been taking a teaspoon a day of black seed oil. Since when I started months ago I lost over 30 lbs. Apart from that I was previously dealing with chronic severe anemia requiring 5 iron infusions every six months. My iron levels have been so good I no longer need these treatments that nothing else helped for since 2019 when I was diagnosed with anemia. And on top of that my thyroid medication was reduced twice already. Used to be on 175 mcg of levothyroxine, then was lowered to 150 and finally to 137 mcg. I had always either been stable or gone up in medication since 2011 when I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This truly is a miracle herb!
If you have an additional pepper grinder, mustard seeds are also a nice spice to be able to use at will. I reach for it more than I do the "pepper" mill.
I understand that a pepper grinder will not grind the black cumin optimally fine enough. I use a Hamilton Beach Coffee/spice grinder from Walmart , which can pulverize the seeds into as fine (or coarse) a powder as desired. I use the same spice grinder for rosemary, flax, cumin seeds, etc.
this is strong strong stuff and not for everybody. i used to take it almost daily and got bad problems with my stomach after a while. what i learned is that just because some people call certain things healthy, doesnt mean its necessary healthy for you . everybody is differnt
The pepper mill filled with cumin seed instead is a great idea! I put mustard seeds in a pepper mill and I reach for it more often than the mill with pepper in it.
great info i had heard about and tried black seed oil in the past, but as always go for the whole food so the powder makes more sense since my diet is 100% oil free

@@TheGreasyNigel I have a cup of oatmeal and only put about 1/8 tsp. in it along with cinnamon, apples or blueberries. The sweetness of the fruit covers up the taste, but also, I don't find it to be as peppery as black pepper. It has a mild peppery taste.

I had to stop eating both black and regular cumin - they were proving very not good for me and my endometriosis. Also was having some atrocious side effects, thankfully within days of removing them both from my diet things settled back down.

I bought mine at a local East Indian store. They were labeled Kalonji/Black Onion Seed, and then in ingredients Nigella Sativa. Very inexpensive there.

Everything you must take with moderation but i am sure it is very good for different things for our body. Not just for weight loss. I know someone take its oil for breast cancer and she is ok now.

Im really confused because black cumin seeds are.very tiny and round, unlike nigella "seeds" that are oblong in shape and long so I don't think they are the same. Am confused lol.
Dr. Gregor convinces me to try adding black cumin into my daily regimen. However, he flippantly mentions how he and his family have a pepper grinder filled with black cumin seeds at the dinner table. I've ordered and returned a half dozen types of pepper/seed grinders because the black cumin seeds are simply TOO SMALL to grind and therefore just fall out of the grinder unground. Does anyone have any suggestions for some way to grind black cumin seeds that doesn't involve a mortar and pestle or grindings that are complicated and time consuming?

If anyone in a similar situation tries it for a while and their health numbers don't go down too low, please let me know, as sometimes I think adding more and more onto an already very healthy diet can sometimes become negative to the health of a person not diseased.

We don't grind it in the middle east. Just try it as a toast topping, or if you bake, a bread topping. Otherwise you're just missing out and dare I say, using it wrong 🤷🏽♀️ : : (In a toast, press it into the bread before toasting it)
Black cumin is tiny narrow cylindrical spikes non shiny finish dark brown. nigella seeds are intense black shiny, multidimensional seeds the size is slightly larger than carrom seeds. 😊 Black cumin is bitter, nigella isn’t bitter at all. There is some confusion.
Never buy such supplements as there is no way to know if they contain what they say they contain (many supplements in studies have turned out to contain no active substances -- Greger has a video). And even if they do contain the active ingredient, it is far better to take whole turmeric, whole black seeds, whole flax seeds, etc. Extracts are highly concentrated, and no one knows how an extract of some compound from 50 grams of turmeric (or whatever) in a single capsule would affect us. It might even be toxic. EAT WHOLE FOODS!!!
I am taking statins for high cholesterol and would never take something like this before consulting with the pharmacist for any contraindications. However, the weight loss factor peaks my interest.

I don't find my black cumin seeds to be spicy. Distinct flavor for sure, but not spicy.... hope I got the real stuff and not just dyed sesame seeds!

In India this spice is used in food. I'm not sure I'd put it on an empty stomach due to irritation possibility.

Does taking black cumin seed oil in capsule form work just as well? My packaging says its Black Cumin (Nigella Sativa) 1300 mg (seed oil) (Supplying Thymoquinone)

We don't grind it in the middle east. Just try it as a toast topping, or if you bake, a bread topping. Otherwise you're just missing out and dare I say, using it wrong 🤷🏽♀️

Black cumin is tiny narrow cylindrical spikes non shiny finish dark brown. nigella seeds are intense black shiny, multidimensional seeds the size is slightly larger than carrom seeds. 😊

Never buy such supplements as there is no way to know if they contain what they say they contain (many supplements in studies have turned out to contain no active substances -- Greger has a video).
And even if they do contain the active ingredient, it is far better to take whole turmeric, whole black seeds, whole flax seeds, etc. Extracts are highly concentrated, and no one knows how an extract of some compound from 50 grams of turmeric (or whatever) in a single capsule would affect us. It might even be toxic. EAT WHOLE FOODS!!!

I am taking statins for high cholesterol and would never take something like this before consulting with the pharmacist for any contraindications. However, the weight loss factor peaks my interest.
