Yeah, that's what really surprised me about the game when I played it (on emulator, of course, good luck finding working hardware of it today.) It's an _amazing_ side-scrolling space shooter; while it doesn't stand out because of how many space shooters were made in the late '80s/early '90s, I'd say it's pretty much the prototypical representative of the genre.
You know what's extra cool about it? It wasn't ever intended for release to begin with, it was just a project meant to train up newly hired personnel, and thus there was no real design direction to it, people kinda just did whatever, but then it eventually starts to look like something, and they realize it'd be worth releasing. That's why some parts of the game are slightly disjointed, yet they manage to put together something good.

It just doesn't seem as effective without the Genesis instruments. The original tune used the Genesis sound chip as effectively as anyone could ever hope to. Still a good remake.

@@PontusHultgren is right. They were in a rush to port it from arcade to console, so instead of hiring translators, they just relied on whatever English the dev-team knew.
Bad translation aside, Zero wing is actually an amazing shooter. Great music, awesome gameplay and hard as hell near the end
