Thank you Sir for this wonderful explanation. But in the second example of students playing Basketball and studying history just by changing the intersection numbers to 4 from 8, the events become dependent. Is it only about the numbers or has it anything to do with the nature of the event as well?
this is such an important point.... I was not taught how to access conditional probabilities and its such a basic thing! Understanding conditional probabilities is a prerequisite to understanding Baysian statistics, or at least the Bayes Theorem!
may be they are dependent in the last mutually exclusive case because if one increases then other one have to decrease as there is condition of no intersection.
