- BARIKE wrote "Wan Kantri" to address the 1990s political and social climate of PNG.This song is considered by many as PNG's second national anthem and is often used at independance day gatherings around the country.This great song is taken from BARIKE's "Wan Kantri" album which was recorded in 1991 at the original Pacific Gold Studios in Rabaul.

Oh my PNG that changed my life. I'll never forget and keep you always in my heart till my last breath. Things have changed but my love remains the same to my adopted country PNG. Hope and pray for all my brothers and sisters of the land that the day of happiness and peace will be restored soon, This song "wan kantri" always made me feel something that I can't express in word. I can also imagine that how much my brothers and sisters are feeling about the country if an adopted son like myself could feel after all this happening.

This song was written and recorded back in 1990 when PNG was going through a civil war ie,PNG army fighting with our own Bougainville brothers/sisters..So the song is appealing for PEACE and UNITY,...and for the war to end.

This is a true song for unity and peace in PNG. Our leaders many times forget the call of duty to serve the people and unite the country from outside exploitation. This is the real meaning of PNG National Pledge and Anthem. "UNITY" alone is a very big word just like we say "LOVE" is a big word but then again, "unity" is just a word. A true definition/example of Unity can only be revealed through a country like PNG. This unity song says it all, it is our strength in the darkest of hours as a country and can really bring out the true patriotic spirit in just every common man. Tonight I share the same tears and and sentiments with you my fellow countrymen/women but I'm also happy and proud of my country, we've got no time to loose complaining about our past, but we have time now in our present to create a future we desire.
